Our objective in life is to attain the pleasure of Allah ta'ala.
It is a shame that we are immersed in the love of the world, status and fame. We desire recognition and respect in this world, and we think that only the wealthy are respected. Those things which make us forget our objective in life should be shunned.
The Prophet ﷺ advised us not to become immersed in the enjoyment of the world. The true believers should not become attached to the pleasures and attractions of the world.
The Prophet ﷺ said that those who run after worldly material things can never be safe from sins, and their situation will become negative. The world will lead a person towards sins. In reality, a person cannot gain true respect through worldly means. Rather, we should have concern for the Hereafter and assess the standard of our worship.
The value of every action hinges upon whether a person has blessings. Blessings are not proportionate to wealth. The Prophet ﷺ was not born into a wealthy family. He did not have a father. Thus, quantity is not related to success with regards to Deen. For example, the noble Companions رضي الله عنه would have one date for the entire day and their stomachs would be full. This was due to the amount of blessings they possessed in their lives. They would sleep on the ground and their sleep would be fulfilled. They did not have a desire for more.
These examples have been established for us so that we can learn about blessings. Thus, our criteria for success should be to seek blessings in everything we do and everything we have.
No wealthy person in history left this world with his wealth. Wealth is dangerous, and a person who chases wealth will never be safe from vice and sin.
It is a shame that our criteria for success is based upon the world and materialism. We worship for the sake of the world, gain knowledge for the sake of the world, and this is also why people leave one Sheikh and advance towards another Sheikh, as they want to progress in Dunya and become a deputy.
We should wish to attain respect in the Hereafter, when Allah ta'ala will honour us in the Hereafter, and this is the permanent respect.
What is the purpose of attaining Tazkiyah?
It is not to earn the world. Rather, it is to shun the world and not chase it, but rather seek blessings in everything we do so that our life may be blessed.
Where can we find blessings?
Nabi ﷺ is a mercy to mankind and a massive source of blessings for us. We are considered the greatest nation because we are connected to the greatest Prophet ﷺ. No nation will be given the blessings which we are granted due to him.
We are distant from the Prophet ﷺ, yet we are seeking blessings. We have detached ourselves from him and have no connection with him.
It is a shame that we celebrate Milad-Ud-Nabi, yet we spend our lives in opposition to the Prophet ﷺ.
The Prophet ﷺ was taken in by his foster mother, and she says that when she embraced him as a child, light entered her body and love was developed inside her. She took him into her care.
When she travelled back with him, she witnessed many miracles. The animal first prostrated to the ground before it set off with speed. When she arrived home, the scene of the house was transformed, everything was illuminated, and she was also able to suckle him.
It is through the Prophet ﷺ that we are connected to Allah ta'ala and acquire the Deen. It is through him that we gain dignity and respect. We gain everything through him.
وَلِلَّهِ الْعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلَٰكِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
..."But all honour and power belongs to Allah, His Messenger, and the believers, yet the hypocrites do not know." [63:8]
Allah ta'ala is the One who grants respect and honour, and it does not go to a wealthy person by default. All respect and dignity belong to Him, the Prophet ﷺ and the believers. If we wish to be respected in both worlds, then we should obey Allah ta'ala and obey the Prophet ﷺ.
It is not through false claims and conferences that we will be granted respect. Rather, it is through imitating the Prophet ﷺ that we are granted the pleasure of Allah ta'ala.
In this day and age, it may be difficult to imitate him due to the severe temptations and distractions of this world. However, we must know that without emulating his ways, we are destroyed and trodden upon by society.
Those who are connected with Allah ta'ala and the Prophet ﷺ, even if they are living a life of poverty, are considered among the most respectable people in the world.
We should not admire the wealthy and those with status. To feel awe and dignity for a rich person is a sign of failure and shows weak faith. We should rather have respect and love for those who are connected to Allah ta'ala and His Rasul ﷺ, even if they live in poverty.
We cannot become pious merely due to our worship. Rather, we should assess how much respect we have for the Prophet's ﷺ Sunnah and how much desire we have to obey him.
In a Hadith it is mentioned, "None of you is a believer until I am dearer to him than his child, his father, and the whole of mankind." [Muslim Shareef]
We can claim to love him all we want, but in reality, our actions clearly show how much love we have for him.
The greatest scholar is he who imitates the Prophet ﷺ, which is why the Noble Companions رضي الله عنه were the greatest scholars. Their criteria for success was based upon implementing the teachings and Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. They were eager to follow every act of Sunnah, even seemingly small actions.
He who opposes the Prophet ﷺ and disobeys him is a hypocrite, despite delivering conferences and marches to display his so-called love. He is deviated, and his faith and love of the Deen are diminished.
In life, there is only one standard of success, and that is to obey Allah ta'ala and the Prophet ﷺ. Otherwise, we will become hypocrites.
We will be tested in life, as Allah ta'ala wishes to see whether we follow the criteria of success.
If we are unable to follow the Deen upon the land we live on due to being overwhelmed, then we should migrate so that we can practise. We should not deceive ourselves.
When we follow the Sunnah and promote his Deen, we are granted success by Allah ta'ala.
At the same time, we should be careful because migrating to foreign lands could affect our generations. We may not be able to follow the Deen properly and do the work of Deen.
"And know that your wealth and your children are only a test and that with Allah is a great reward." [8:28]
It is through following the Prophet ﷺ that we are granted blessings in life. What prevents us from imitating him is our love for the world, wealth and children.
We set high worldly aspirations for our children and compromise on the Deen by breaking the laws of Allah ta'ala in our homes. If we understand and accept our mistakes today, that we are living against the Sunnah, and promise to make changes, only then will we be rectified.
Love demands sacrifice. If we are not practising the Sunnah and sacrificing for his way, then our love for the Prophet ﷺ is not genuine.
Dhikr is what helps us to develop love for the Prophet ﷺ. If we abandon Dhikr, then it means we do not want to improve ourselves.
In Ahadith, it is mentioned that those who begin performing Dhikr with the intention of gaining the love of Allah ta'ala and His Rasul ﷺ, he will enter Paradise smiling and be safe from the severity and the accounting in the Hereafter. He will enter Paradise without effort. [Ibn Abi Shaybah]
After repenting at the hands of a Sheikh, we are required to don the Imamah. We should not be ashamed of following the Sunnah.
If you have adopted a teacher who does not follow the Sunnah nor teaches you according to the Sunnah, then it means you are moving towards deviation.
We should not belittle any Sunnah, as no Sunnah is small. If we truly desire to follow the proper Deen, we should develop love for the Prophet ﷺ and imitate his ways in every aspect of our lives.
We should approach that WaliAllah who changes us mentally and physically and allows us to embrace the lifestyle of the Prophet ﷺ completely.
If we fail to live our lives according to his way, then we cannot die upon the Kalimah. We will die upon hypocrisy.
May Allah ta'ala eliminate our deficiencies and make us true lovers of the Prophet ﷺ.
