A WaliAllah is a friend of Allah ta'ala. There is a Kaamil (perfect) WaliAllah and there is a special WaliAllah. One is a common friend of Allah ta'ala and another is a special friend.
All believers are WaliAllah in a general sense, whereas a disbeliever can never be a WaliAllah, regardless of any claims he makes or miracles he appears to show. Even if a believer falls into sin, he will eventually be taken out of the Hellfire and forgiven, whereas a disbeliever will not. Therefore, we should strive not to spend our lives in sin.
The friendship of a special friend is unique. You genuinely care for that friend and regularly enquire about his wellbeing. This is a higher level of friendship. A further level of friendship is when you love that friend so much that you are willing to sacrifice things for him. Although he may not be related to you, you love him more than your own family. You remember him constantly. There is no greed or ulterior motive, only sincere friendship. The friendship of a servant with Allah ta'ala is similar in this respect.
There is no friendship that can compare to friendship with Allah ta'ala.
Being a friend of Allah ta'ala is a tremendous blessing. When you need something, He grants it. When you are in difficulty, He helps you. He cares for you. If you wish to increase this love and friendship with Allah ta'ala, then you must engage in abundant dhikr. Both men and women will be rewarded for their dhikr.
Allah ta'ala does not force us to remember Him, although the more a person remembers Allah ta'ala, the closer he becomes to Allah ta'ala.
It is a great shame that we prioritise worldly love over love for Allah ta'ala. We should assess ourselves and examine whether hypocrisy exists within us.
We strive to increase our love for worldly things, such as women, wealth, and children. We focus on these matters and give priority to the world.
There are two types of Wilayah. One is the general friendship that every believer receives, and the other is the special friendship that is attained through dhikr.
There are certain conditions for dhikr. A person must ensure that his provisions are pure and not contaminated by unlawful earnings. He should also abandon doubtful matters. Many people do not benefit from their dhikr because their provisions are unlawful or doubtful. We should detach ourselves from worldly distractions and engage in dhikr without intending to gain worldly benefits.
We should be extremely careful in fulfilling the five pillars of Islam. We should perform our prayers as Allah ta'ala has commanded and should not abandon congregational prayer without a valid excuse. This is the second condition of becoming a friend of Allah ta'ala.
If you are in doubt regarding whether your prayers are correct, or whether your actions—such as your business dealings—are lawful or unlawful, then you should consult your Sheikh. Your Sheikh serves as a means of assisting you in strengthening your friendship with Allah ta'ala. We should expose our faults to him so that they may be corrected.
If we perform dhikr while fulfilling these conditions, our friendship with Allah ta'ala will become stronger. We will be granted awareness of Allah ta'ala and enabled to make sacrifices for His sake and obey Him wholeheartedly.
Hadhrat Hussain رضي الله عنه taught us that if we wish to become friends of Allah ta'ala, then we must be prepared to make sacrifices as he did. If you truly love someone, you do not willingly displease them. Therefore, we should be concerned about avoiding the displeasure of Allah ta'ala. Through this, a person attains Fanaa and Baqaa.
Such a person remains constantly cautious of displeasing Allah ta'ala and of harming any of the creation of Allah ta'ala. His heart becomes soft, and he develops a love for helping others and sacrificing for them. After becoming a friend of Allah ta'ala through dhikr, emulation of the Sunnah, and protection from sins, he becomes forbearing and tolerant.
It is not dhikr alone that grants success. Rather, these conditions must also be fulfilled; otherwise, we are merely deceiving ourselves.
We should neither admire nor praise those who abandon the Sunnah. We should not befriend an enemy of Allah ta'ala, because such a person's belief and Aqeedah are incorrect. We should not befriend those who oppose Allah ta'ala, otherwise we compromise our friendship with Allah ta'ala.
Sacrificing everything for the sake of Allah ta'ala is a sign of Wilayah. One does not require miracles to demonstrate piety. Rather, the true miracle is the ability to abandon sins and become a friend of Allah ta'ala.
Simply claiming to love the Prophet ﷺ through words, while simultaneously cursing other groups and sects, does not bring a person close to the Prophet ﷺ.
What is the sign of a person who has attained Fanaa Fillah and Baqaa Billah?
There is nothing in his heart besides Allah ta'ala. Whether in times of happiness or sadness, he is constantly mindful of Allah ta'ala and never forgets Him.
If we make mistakes today, we must strive to improve our lives. We should adopt dhikr together with its conditions and strive to become friends of Allah ta'ala. If we fail to seek forgiveness today, we may face punishment tomorrow.
May Allah ta'ala grant us the ability to implement these precious pearls of wisdom.
