When we strive through dhikr and turn towards Allah ta'ala, He appreciates our efforts and forgives our sins.
One indication that a person has passed away having attained salvation is to observe how he spent his life. If he wasted his life in wrongdoing, then he will face punishment in the Hereafter.
A person will spend his time in Barzakh according to the way he spent his life in this world. This world is a place of striving and hard work. If we work hard today and perform righteous deeds, then we will enter Paradise.
We should remember that it is never too late to seek forgiveness from Allah ta'ala. Even if a person seeks forgiveness on his deathbed, Allah ta'ala can forgive him and convert his sins into good deeds.
We should be grateful for the month of Muharram, for it is one of the sacred months. When something is beloved to Allah ta'ala, it becomes unique and distinguished.
When we call upon Allah ta'ala from the depths of a sincere heart, Allah ta'ala responds immediately and can make a person a WaliAllah, for Allah ta'ala looks at the state of the hearts.
Our objective is not to become a WaliAllah or a Sheikh, as this is from the selection of Allah ta'ala. Rather, our objective in life is to safeguard ourselves from Hellfire and prepare for Paradise.
We should not challenge Allah ta'ala or complain about why others have been given status while we have not. Such people interfere in the selection of Allah ta'ala and follow in the footsteps of Shaytan.
When a person becomes a selected WaliAllah, he becomes unique and begins to experience the glory and splendour of Allah ta'ala. Through his company, thousands of people attain forgiveness by the blessings granted through his companionship.
There are two types of people when it comes to receiving the treasures of Allah ta'ala.
One type consists of those who love the world. If their worldly desires are fulfilled, they consider this to be a treasure from Allah ta'ala and rejoice over it. Their mindset is limited to worldly assets, and their happiness is connected to them. They consider the world to be everything and view every worldly possession as a blessing.
The second group consists of those who realise that this world is temporary and that whatever they possess will soon disappear. They understand that there is no true enjoyment in this world and that worldly happiness is short-lived. Their focus is on the Hereafter, which is everlasting, and they know that their success is connected to it. Their mindset and standard of practice are different. They are not excessively delighted by worldly achievements, but when they are granted rewards of the Hereafter, they immediately become thankful servants of Allah ta'ala.
Muharram is a great month, and we should regard it as a reward and mercy from Allah ta'ala. We should thank Allah ta'ala for these blessed months.
When a person receives a bounty connected to the Hereafter from Allah ta'ala, he should turn towards Allah ta'ala and seek His pleasure and nearness. This is the true way of expressing gratitude for His treasures. When we worship Allah ta'ala, we are in fact showing gratitude to Him. If a person does not express gratitude through worship, then he is wasting his time.
Having limbs and senses is a great blessing from Allah ta'ala. It is unfortunate that despite possessing these treasures, we run away from His remembrance.
Many people force their children to become Huffadh or scholars merely to show off to the world. There is no benefit in this, and such parents will be held accountable. Allah ta'ala simply desires that our children become obedient servants.
The objective should always be to please Allah ta'ala.
His favours upon us are limitless, and without gratitude to Him, we cannot attain forgiveness.
We should not commit injustice against ourselves by committing sins, for one cannot be truly grateful while disobeying Allah ta'ala. Our limbs are treasures, and we should use them for His pleasure rather than for sin. If we use our limbs contrary to the Shariah, then we have oppressed ourselves and earned Hellfire. We should safeguard these treasures and constantly remember this.
During this great month, we should turn towards Allah ta'ala through dhikr and worship, while also avoiding sins.
"And ˹remember˺ when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will certainly give you more. But if you are ungrateful, surely My punishment is severe.’” [14:7]
If a person safeguards himself from sins, then Allah ta'ala will increase and multiply the bounty for which he is grateful. He will strengthen it. Many illnesses stem from sins, whereas the righteous habits commanded by Allah ta'ala, such as lowering the gaze, contain cures and benefits for us. The functionality and strength of our limbs and senses will increase.
There is no benefit to Allah ta'ala when we worship Him, for He is not in need of our worship. Rather, we ourselves benefit from it. We have been commanded to pray five times a day, so why do we neglect our prayers?
Each prayer has been assigned a specific time and must be performed within the hours that Allah ta'ala has stipulated.
Prayer itself is not great because of our actions; rather, the greatness lies in the times that Allah ta'ala has appointed. These are times that Allah ta'ala has designated for certain acts of worship. During these times, special mercies and blessings descend that do not descend at other times. Allah ta'ala does not want us to miss out on these blessings, which is why He has prescribed worship at different times throughout the day and night.
If we prioritise the world and our businesses over prayer, then we deprive ourselves of these unlimited and special mercies.
We worship in order to show gratitude, not merely to attain piety. When worshipping, we should intend to thank Allah ta'ala for the blessed times He has designated for worship throughout the day and night. When we demonstrate gratitude by prioritising our prayers, Allah ta'ala grants us far more than what we sacrificed for Him.
If we spend our lives according to the way Allah ta'ala wants us to live, then both our lives and our deaths will be great.
Hadhrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani Rahmatullahi alayh states that the day of Ashurah is a blessed day with regards to the martyrdom of Hadhrat Hussain رضي الله عنه.
Those who lament and mourn excessively on this day are wasting their time.
Hadhrat Hussain رضي الله عنه presented a great example to the Ummah. He safeguarded the Sunnah of his blessed grandfather, the Prophet ﷺ. We should be grateful for the example of his martyrdom and take lessons from it. If the Sunnah is mocked or diminished today, then we should also learn to make sacrifices.
The Ahl al-Bayt stood firm upon the truth despite the challenges they faced.
Allah ta'ala accepted a tremendous sacrifice from Hadhrat Hussain رضي الله عنه in order to revive the religion. He delivered a powerful message to the believers that we too should make sacrifices for the sake of the Deen and remain steadfast upon the truth.
We should take pride in this incident and not engage in crying and wailing on this day. Islam was revived through the events of Karbala.
Our mission is to save ourselves from Hellfire and follow the Sunnah of Hadhrat Hussain رضي الله عنه.
Could Allah ta'ala not have saved Hadhrat Hussain رضي الله عنه at Karbala or sent angels to protect him? Certainly He could have. However, Allah ta'ala wished to make him an example for those who would come after him, showing that those who follow his path of sacrifice and adherence to the Sunnah will remain alive in their graves.
Through his example, we should develop determination to practise the Deen and remain steadfast upon its path. We should sacrifice the world for the sake of the Deen.
The Prophet ﷺ mentioned beforehand that there would be a group of people who would beat themselves in commemoration of this day.
Hadhrat Hussain رضي الله عنه sacrificed his children in the path of Allah ta'ala. Therefore, we should at least be prepared to sacrifice our sins for the sake of Allah ta'ala.
Whenever we become weak in our practice or negligent in our prayers, we should remember the sacrifice of Hadhrat Hussain رضي الله عنه.
How Should We Show Gratitude to Allah ta'ala in This Month?
Run towards the khanqah and seek the company of the AwliyahAllah. Show gratitude to Allah ta'ala through dhikr and muraqabah.
In the khanqah, we should not waste time in worldly discussions. Rather, we should keep to ourselves and make the most of the company of the WaliAllah, earning the mercy and blessings of Allah ta'ala through his companionship.
The connection with one's Sheikh must be strong. We should not criticise the WaliAllah. The stronger one's connection with his teacher, the more spiritual benefit and fayd he will receive. We should serve the WaliAllah with sincerity, populate the khanqah, and avoid hypocrisy, doubts, and criticism.
If a person uses the Deen to acquire worldly gains, then his offspring will be corrupted. We should not mix the Deen with worldly ambitions. We should not make our children Huffadh or scholars for worldly status and recognition.
If we spend our days in sin, then this is a sign of ingratitude towards Allah ta'ala, and such a person will be ruined. However, if we spend our days according to the pleasure of Allah ta'ala, then we will attain success.
May Allah ta'ala grant us the ability to implement these precious pearls of wisdom.
