These are the days and nights of Tashriq, whereby we remember Allah ta'ala. These days are filled with the bounties and rewards of Allah ta'ala.
If a person attends a gathering of dhikr, he is forgiven regardless of the intention with which he came. This is from the mercy of Allah ta'ala upon us.
We have no knowledge regarding the condition in which death will come to us, so we should reflect and hope for the best. Having positive thoughts is part of faith. A person becomes successful when he works hard. Thereafter, he receives the fruits of his efforts. A person receives nothing in this world and the Hereafter without hard work. Even in this world, a person must utilise the available resources and work hard to earn wealth before he is able to spend it.
We will not attain Paradise on a plate. We are required to work hard, and the Messenger ﷺ came to spread the Deen and teach us the path to attaining Paradise.
The Prophet ﷺ taught us how to strive for Paradise, so we must follow the formula he taught us rather than our own methods. We should not follow our desires and assume that we will enter Paradise. If we follow the Prophet ﷺ, then the doors of Paradise will certainly open for us.
"As for those who struggle in Our cause, We will surely guide them along Our Way. And Allah is certainly with the good-doers." [29:69]
Those who work hard upon the path prescribed by the Prophet ﷺ and make sacrifices for it are promised by Allah ta'ala that He will instil a light within them which will lead them to Allah ta'ala and ultimately to Paradise. If difficulties arise upon this path, then Allah ta'ala will assist them in every circumstance. He will grant them the company of the AwliyahAllah, who possess love for the creation and strive to rectify mankind.
It is a shame that we imitate those who oppose him and his teachings. This is from the deception of Shaytan. If we imitate such people, then we will be raised with them in the Hereafter. However, if we imitate the ways of the Prophet ﷺ, then we will be with him in Paradise.
Nabi ﷺ said that a person who does not follow him has no connection with him.
If we wish to improve our lives, we must obey Allah ta'ala and His Messenger ﷺ and abstain from that which they forbade. This is what practising Deen truly means.
Anything that prevents us from practising
should strive to fight against it.
Nabi ﷺ is reported to have mentioned that the real battle is the battle against one's desires. Our desires are the enemy that prevent us from drawing closer to Allah ta'ala. They prevent us from praying and fulfilling our obligations.
We have been commanded to perform the five daily prayers in congregation, and it is through performing them according to the Sunnah that they are accepted and become a means of entering Paradise. Praying in this manner is part of striving and working hard for Paradise.
Whenever we fail to fulfil the commands of Allah ta'ala, we should understand that it is the influence of our desires which is leading us away from obedience and towards Hellfire.
We must fight against the base desires within us that seek to misguide us and negatively influence our actions.
Nabi ﷺ said:
"My companions are like the stars, so whichever of them you copy, you will be guided." [Mishkat Shareef]
To practise the Deen is easy. If we follow any of the noble companions, we will be successful. We should avoid quarrelling over differences of opinion between the Madhaahib. If our actions are proven through any of the noble companions, then there is no need for arguments and disputes. To act upon that which is not proven is misguidance.
If we fail to follow the actions of the Prophet ﷺ, then we will earn the curse of Allah ta'ala and become wretched.
Striving in the way of Allah ta'ala refers to struggling against our own desires. For example, laziness may prevent us from waking up for Fajr. If we spend our morning in disobedience to Allah ta'ala, then our entire day becomes affected. We become deprived of blessings, and the mercies of Allah ta'ala are lifted from us. The whole day can be ruined simply by spending the morning in such a manner.
Until we repent and make up for the missed prayer, we cannot compensate for this loss.
We should seek to overcome our desires, which lead us towards sin, by imposing a penalty upon ourselves. If we commit a wrongdoing, we should reprimand ourselves by performing something difficult. For example, we may commit ourselves to fasting during long summer days, performing extra nafl prayers during the night, or sacrificing something that is beloved to us.
We should not co-operate with our desires. Rather, we should impose a penalty upon ourselves for the mistakes we commit. Once we make such a commitment, it becomes obligatory upon us to fulfil it.
In this way, a person fights against his desires. However, if he continuously gives in to them, his condition will only worsen. He will continue committing sins, abandoning the commands of Allah ta'ala, and may ultimately die as a disbeliever.
It is beneficial to seek advice from your Sheikh, admit your shortcomings to him, and ask for guidance in eliminat
ing your sins. Whatever advice he gives, you should implement it. When we do this, Allah ta'ala grants us success through His love and mercy.
May Allah ta'ala grant us the ability to implement these precious pearls of wisdom. Ameen.
