Why is Tazkiyyah Important? - Part 27

At the time of death, the consequences of a person’s lifelong deeds become apparent. It is then that he realises how deeply the love of this world had overwhelmed him throughout his life.

At the time of death, Shaytan seeks to rid a person of his faith. Only if a person lives his life with sincerity, will he be granted a good death. Thus, we should spend our entire life preparing for death.

Dhikr is what grants a person a beautiful death and leads to true success. A person who loves Dhikr and spends his life in the remembrance of Allah ta‘ala will be enabled by Allah ta‘ala to recite the Kalimah at the time of death. The angels will protect the dhaakir from the whispers of Shaytan at that moment, and Allah ta‘ala Himself becomes his protector. The angels will also pray for the believer at the time of his death.

Death is made easy for a believer, as he spent his entire life making sacrifices for the sake of Allah ta‘ala.

We should always have hope in the mercy of Allah ta‘ala, while striving hard alongside it. We should make sacrifices for those things that bring benefit and goodness to our Hereafter. We may face great challenges in life that can weaken our faith, however, it is through practising the Sunnah that we will be able to overcome those tests.

The circumstances we face in life are tests for us, and we should never compromise our faith. It is through this steadfastness that we will ultimately attain success.

We should perform Tawbah and avoid accepting anything that may spoil our Hereafter. We should not waste our youth or our old age in holidays, gossip, and endless scrolling on our phones. Our life is limited, therefore, we should sacrifice our desires, abandon temporary and wasteful pursuits, and gladly adopt every path and action that brings benefit to our Hereafter.

We should adopt the ways of the Sunnah, even if we are mocked in the process. We should limit our contact and avoid forming close ties with those who are not upon the Deen. Instead, we should keep the company of those who are preparing for the Hereafter, as their companionship has a positive impact upon us.

The effect of bad company is very severe. If you sit with those who have poor character, then it will impact you negatively.

We should live a pure and honest life. We must abandon those actions that will bring us loss in the Hereafter, such as deeds tainted with deceit and fraud. While we may fulfil our needs and lawful desires through the available means and resources, our earnings must always remain within the boundaries of Shariah. We should also turn to Allah ta'ala and seek from Him the fulfilment of our needs.

If we notice that a brother is absent from the Dhikr gatherings or from the Masjid, we should contact him and enquire regarding his wellbeing.

We are required to pay both our taxes and Zakat. When giving Zakat, we should give it openly and, if possible, generously beyond the obligatory amount.

If we wish to expand our business, we may do so, but we must protect our faith at the same time. The enjoyment of wealth can easily overpower us, and when it does, returning to the right path becomes difficult. We should never forget our Deen, even as we progress in the world. Our objectives must remain sincere and pure, otherwise, we will struggle to recite the Kalimah at the time of death.

We must be cautious in life. We should avoid owning or running a business that involves doubtful matters, especially when working in the public sector. We must also be careful when working with charities or organisations that handle money or collect Zakat on behalf of others, as this is a serious responsibility. A person will be held accountable for how he manages the Zakat of others, making it a path that requires great care.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement these precious pearls. Ameen
