The blessings of Allah ta'ala do not come to a person who lives a life of sin. Neglecting the Sunnah and abandoning prayer are among the greatest reasons a person is deprived of blessings.

The first lesson a Sheikh teaches a student is how to imitate the Sunnah. If a person engages in Dhikr without following the Sunnah and believes they will attain success, they are mistaken. True success lies in being steadfast in both Dhikr and adherence to the Sunnah. Even if a person does not feel spiritual enjoyment or experience dreams and miracles, they are still successful. In reality, the greatest miracle is following the Sunnah.
The first step is to learn the ways of the Sunnah and respect it. A person who revives one Sunnah in the era of fitna, will receive the reward of a hundred martyrs.
Genuine knowledge is that knowledge which allows a person to implement the Sunnah. When seeking a Sheikh, we should not select him only for his knowledge, rather, we should assess whether he follows the Sunnah, because the closeness to Allah ta'ala is conditional upon the Sunnah. If we are impressed by those Shuyookh who fail to follow the Sunnah, then it is the greatest weakness of our faith.
A persons status is increased by implementing the Sunnah. In Ahadith, it is mentioned that the Ummah will face disorder and confusion when they abandon the Sunnah and imitate the ways of the other nations. Whomsoever we imitate, we will rise with them in the Hereafter.
The books of Ahadith are not separate from the way of the Sunnah. Rather, they cannot be properly understood without practicing and following the Sunnah.
Why is there fitnah in the Ummah?
Closeness to Allah ta'ala can only be attained through practicing the Sunnah, nor through any acts of worship or by following one’s desires. The only way a person can truly overcome and crush their ego is by adhering to the Sunnah.
We should sit with and attend the gatherings of those scholars who follow the Sunnah both inwardly and outwardly, as righteous company has a positive and lasting impact on a person.
In the Hereafter, we will be questioned about how we followed the Sunnah. It is an essential part of our lives, yet it is sad that those who encourage others to follow it are often mocked and ridiculed.
We should not place our trust in our Dhikr alone. The true goal and destination is to follow and implement the Sunnah. Shaytan tries to mislead and divert us from this path, sometimes even by causing us to see pious dreams.
A person loses his faith by criticising, rejecting, or mocking the Sunnah. We should remember that our deeds are rendered worthless through disrespect towards the Prophet ﷺ and rejection of his teachings. We must be mindful not to show any form of disrespect towards him, even in our thoughts.
