Jewels of Ramadhan 2026- Episode 39

We have been blessed with an extra day of Ramadan through the mercy of Allah ta'ala. Only those who truly seek reward will recognise its value. It may be that Allah ta’ala has chosen this additional day to elevate someone’s status or strengthen their faith tonight. Therefore, we should remain alert and devote this night with full focus and energy. Perhaps Allah ta'ala intends to forgive us during these precious final moments of Ramadan.

The final moments of any occasion are the most important and precious. Tonight, a person should be even more alert and fully strive to benefit from the mercy of Allah ta'ala.

It is a sign of Allah ta'ala’s mercy and grace that He has enabled us to attend gatherings of Dhikr during the month of Ramadan, even though we sometimes find it difficult to do so. Allah ta'ala rewards those who remain steadfast in practicing the Deen.
The greatest act of worship is to remain in the company of the Sheikh, and this is the true mujaahadah. It is essential to observe proper manners while in his company. We should truly value and appreciate these beneficial gatherings.

Allah ta'ala prepares the WaliAllah and inspires him to convey words to the students according to their needs. We should treat his words as extremely valuable and make an effort to write down each of his points. We should not waste these discussions, as the purpose of these gatherings is to draw closer to Allah ta'ala.

The masjid is connected to Allah ta'ala, so we should show the utmost respect while we are there. It is disrespectful to speak among yourselves, whisper, or laugh in the company of your Sheikh. One should always focus on the heart, as the spiritual benefit (faiz) of the Sheikh is received in the heart of the student. We should clear our thoughts and remain connected to the teacher. A person comes to the khanqah to detach from the dunya and all other distractions.
We should focus completely on the Sheikh. The more attentive a student is, the more spiritual benefit faiz he receives. We should remain in muraqabah at all times and avoid worldly talk and futile activities. If a person fails to show respect, his will lose out on the mercy, blessings, and benefits of the khanqah.

A student can quickly draw closer to Allah ta'ala through good manners and sincere service. Serving the Sheikh is a great honour and elevates a person’s rank. Disrespect towards the teacher can lead to serious consequences. It is through respect that we are granted rewards, while disrespect may result in being removed from the gathering and losing the status one has attained. The one who shows great respect will have a good future.

If you wish to have a strong connection with your teacher, your heart must be free from negative thoughts and doubts about him. This also applies to fellow students who have a physical or spiritual connection with the teacher. You should have love for them as well. Faiz may come through the teacher or through such students. They are honoured individuals, and one should not look for their faults or shortcomings.

The Sheikh is a means to draw closer to Allah ta'ala. Respecting the teacher is the path to attaining Allah Ta'ala’s love and nearness. Showing respect is not an act of innovation. A true student honours and serves the Sheikh solely for the sake of Allah ta'ala.

It is the condition of the heart which generates true manners. The Sheikh never demands or expects respect as this is up to each individual person. Everyone is equal in his eyes. What truly matters is whom Allah ta'ala loves. He is the One who elevates and lowers ranks. Ultimately, it depends on the state of the student’s heart and its development.

We visit the Sheikh to dedicate ourselves to him and to overcome our own desires, not to engage in stories or gossip in the khanqah. We should reflect on ourselves and sincerely seek forgiveness from Allah ta'ala for any disrespect or ill feelings we may harbour in our hearts.

Why are we granted the Dhikr of the heart? It is so that our hearts remain constantly connected to Allah ta'ala. We should immerse ourselves in Dhikr to such an extent that this connection stays with us wherever we go in the world. This is the state of a person who experiences fanaa fil Sheikh, and it is a way to witness the magnificence of Allah ta'ala. We should also learn the proper etiquette of being in the company of the Sheikh and perform dhikr with manners. Children should not be laughing or screaming during dhikr, as this can diminish the faiz granted.

The khanqah is a place of worship and tarbiyyah. Children are our next generation, and while you may bring them, it is your responsibility to teach them proper manners. If you attend the khanqah with respect, your children will also learn to be respectful. We must teach them to honour the Sheikh. If we are unable to ensure proper manners, it is better to leave the gathering.

A person who lacks awareness of proper manners can never attain faiz. One of the key etiquettes of the khanqah is not to raise your voice inside it. We should set aside worldly matters while in this place and seek closeness to Allah Ta'ala through it. Since it is both a masjid and a khanqah, we must show the highest level of respect.

Dhikr is extremely precious in the sight of Allah t'ala. In the final advice given to Hadhrat Mu’adh Ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه by Nabi ﷺ, he was instructed to keep his tongue busy mostly with dhikr. Final advice holds the greatest value. The essence of our Deen is dhikr, and it is the soul of everything we do in life. This is what we learn in the company of the Sheikh.

The more a person engages in Dhikr, the more he sacrifices for Allah ta'ala and the closer he becomes to Him. All of his deeds are strengthened, and he earns the love of Allah ta'ala. As a result, practicing Islam, performing acts of worship, and following the Sunnah become easier for him.

We come to the Sheikh with humility, to learn and to rid ourselves of pride. Even the most learned scholars appear humble in his presence. We should not show off. Our focus should be on correcting our inner selves, not just our outward appearance, and this is achieved through good manners and sincere service to the Sheikh.

We should not feel jealous of those who have a connection with the Sheikh or who have been elevated by him. Instead, we should be happy and grateful that Allah ta’ala has raised that person’s rank.

If you see a relative of your Sheikh falling into sin, you should make dua to Allah ta’ala to protect and guide that person. In return, your own status will be elevated, and your rank in Tasawwuf will increase. Those who do not gain personal benefit from the teacher, should not sit in the khanqah and harbor jealousy or hatred towards the Sheikh. One should fear the punishments of Allah ta’ala. Allah ta’ala grants status to whomever He wills, especially to those free from greed for rank or the desire to be recognised as a Khalifa. A person who seeks recognition or status will never attain true success. We should strive to rid ourselves of such thoughts.

A Wali of Allah does not attain his status through his own desires. Allah ta’ala chooses him. When Allah selects someone for a position in the Deen, we should never reject or oppose that selection.

We should not attend gatherings with greed or hidden motives. We must not bargain with Allah ta’ala, saying we will only strive in learning dhikr if we are granted some worldly benefit in return. Instead, we should remain connected to Him at all times, even if it means facing worldly loss. By maintaining this connection, we will be granted everything we need in this world and the Hereafter. If we form a sincere bond of friendship with Allah ta’ala, He will surely reward our efforts and grant us patience.

The reason sects and divisions have arisen is because people have failed to follow the system that Allah ta’ala has ordained. The Deen and a righteous environment can only develop when this system is followed. After studying in Darul Ulooms, students are required to sit in the company of a Sheikh for their self-purification. By sitting with a Sheikh and learning dhikr, a student is protected from division and differences of opinion, and love for Allah and His Prophet ﷺ is instilled in the heart.

We should follow the genuine Deen. Pursuing tazkiyah and remaining connected to a Sheikh is an essential part of the Deen, and this practice comes from the time of the Prophet ﷺ and his companions. Whoever rejects this, is rejecting a branch of the Deen.

However, there are so-called Sheikhs who have corrupted the Deen through their wrong actions, and no one should accept them as a teacher. Going to a misguided Sheikh can lead to worshipping the person instead of Allah ta’ala and falling under the influence of Shaytan.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement these precious pearls of wisdom. Ameen
