Retail stores often hold seasonal sales, and when they do, large crowds gather to take advantage of discounted prices. Many shoppers queue for hours and some even camp outside to be among the first inside, increasing their chances of securing the best deals.
Similarly, Allah ta'ala also places a sale on good deeds once a year through the month of Ramadan. In Ramadan, the rewards for good deeds are multiplied many times over, without limit. Therefore, it is the perfect opportunity for the believers to stack up on good deeds.
The true believers who live for the Hereafter, work hard during this month and make many sacrifices in order to earn good deeds. They are aware that this opportunity may not always come.
We should always seek opportunities to earn reward. Simply reciting "SubhanAllah" once, grants a person a tree in Paradise. Even a child can attain a high level Paradise. The trees of Paradise cannot compare to the trees of this world. They are beyond comparable and are capable of fulfilling our desires.
The pious dedicate themselves to performing Nawaafil, reciting the Quran, and engaging in Dhikr. They devote their time to performing many good deeds and receiving abundant rewards.
Allah ta‘ala, in His mercy, reduces many worldly distractions, such as the constant need to focus on cooking and daily routines, so that we may be assisted in finding more time to perform good deeds.
The AwliyahAllah explain the best deed to perform during this month. Hadhrat Uthmaan رضي الله عنه was asked, "What is the greatest Deed?" He replied, وَلَذِكْرُ اللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ "And Allah's remembrance is of even greater merit." [29:45]
The Dhikr of Allah ta'ala grants us the highest level of reward.
Why is the act of Dhikr great?
It is not considered a great act simply because it consists of remembering Allah ta'ala. Rather, it is considered great for the benefit that Allah ta’ala remembers us when we remember Him! This is the great achievement.
The more Dhikr we engage in, the greater the rewards we will receive.
Some people will enter Paradise smiling and at peace, without any sign of hardship. They will be asked what enabled them to enter so easily, and they will reply that it was because they remembered Allah ta‘ala abundantly in the world.
This is a deed that is within our reach. It depends on how much we engage in it during this blessed month. We should increase our Dhikr even more at this time. Although it may feel difficult, the reward and outcome are tremendous.
It is unfortunate if we remain preoccupied with worldly pursuits during this blessed time. The blessings of Ramadan are such that even if a person sleeps less but rises for the morning Dhikr gathering, he will awaken feeling refreshed and energised.
Dhikr fills the heart with peace, comfort, and contentment, helping a person manage with fewer hours of sleep.
The Dhaakireen detach themselves from their beds for the sake of worship and carry a heart full of contentment. A person may sleep for six to eight hours but still not feel well-rested because of worries or illness. On the other hand, if a person’s mind and heart are at peace, even half an hour of sleep can feel more refreshing and of better quality.
Allah ta‘ala does not want any part of the earth to be devoid of His remembrance, so He has granted us the gatherings of Dhikr. This is a manifestation of the greatness and blessing of His name.
The Hereafter is far greater than the Dunya, as we will remain there forever. If we desire to attain the blessings of Ramadan, we should intend to perform Dhikr in abundance and attend all three Dhikr gatherings. If we are unable to be present for the entire duration of the gathering, we should at least attend for a short while, otherwise, we face severe loss for failing to attend.
Human beings are given a higher rank than the angels, even though the angels are constantly engaged in worship. Humans are instructed to fulfil their worldly responsibilities such as marriage, earning a lawful livelihood, avoiding sins, resisting evil desires, and staying away from wrongdoing, while still remembering Allah. When we successfully do this, the angels come to visit us.
We may find it difficult to earn good deeds, however. Allah ta'ala has granted us the act of Dhikr as a shortcut. One may even perform Dhikr whilst he is resting or lying down and he will gains the complete reward.
If you need to sleep it is fine. However, a person who snores whilst sleeping, should leave the gathering, pour water over his face and then return to the gathering, as he is disturbing others around him. If he is unable to leave the gathering, he should sprinkle water over his face.
May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement these precious pearls of wisdom. Ameen
