The Dhikr of Allah Is Great

When a human being is disobedient to Allah ta'ala, then his intellect and wisdom becomes overwhelmed. He commits immodest and evil actions. On the other hand, when a person has awareness of his faith and he is obedient to Allah ta'ala, then he performs great actions through his intellect.

Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه said, “Set out with the world at your back and the Hereafter at your front. Each of them both has their children. Be children of the Hereafter and not children of the world, for today is for action and not reckoning, while tomorrow is for reckoning and not action.” [Bukhari Shareef]

During the tragedy of Karbala, fourteen members of the family of Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه lay wounded on the battlefield. In the midst of this immense hardship, Imam Hussain رضي الله عنه remained deeply concerned about establishing his prayers, showing that he chose the Deen over the Dunya. Through his steadfastness and unwavering devotion to Allah ta'ala, he became a timeless example for us - teaching that no matter how great the trials we face in life, we must remain firm upon our Deen and never neglect our obligations to Allah.

It is a shame that many of us struggle to sacrifice even our small desires or comforts in order to fulfil our prayers.

The world is fleeting and temporary yet, the Hereafter is permanent. Whenever the demands of this world clash with the success of the Hereafter, we must give preference to the Hereafter, for the Dunya is temporary, while the Hereafter is eternal.

Dunya refers to anything which distances one from Allah ta'ala, such as a woman, wealth or sleep etc.

We are all faced with this dilemma at some point. For example, Allah ta'ala invites us to prayer and on the other hand, our desires invite us to sleep and laziness.

If we abandon the world, then we become closer to Allah ta'ala. If a person lives in such a way, he will become successful in both worlds. We should select that action which has been ordained by the Prophet ﷺ.

A person who has no intention or plan to rise for Fajr, will often spend the night scrolling on his phone and delaying sleep. Without mental and physical preparation, waking up becomes difficult. The alarm is missed, and excuses follow. However, the one who sincerely intends to wake for prayer, prepares for it. He manages his night responsibly, sleeps on time, and take the means needed to ensure proper rest. Because of this intention and preparation, rising for Fajr becomes easier.

Whenever a person performs an action for the sake of Allah ta'ala, he begins to prepare himself mentally and spiritually. As a result, such people are granted the assistance of the angels. Allah ta'ala prepares this person Himself.

We should make the Deen our entire purpose of life. We should attach our life to the Hereafter instead of attaching it to materialism. Whoever attaches himself to the Hereafter and rejected the world for the sake of his Hereafter, has spent his days successfully.

A person who only has concern over his worldly affairs and neglects the instructions of Allah ta'ala, has destroyed his life.

Each and every second is valuable for a believer. We should not let any moment go to waste through which we are not preparing for the Hereafter. This world is a place of effort and one will receive the fruits of his efforts in Paradise.

We can either spend our morning being occupied with our worldly affairs or we can dedicate our morning to perform actions for our Hereafter.
If we sacrifice and shun the world today, we will receive unimaginable enjoyment in the Hereafter.

It is a shame that we are able to perform great sacrifices for the sake of this world. We sacrifice our lives, our body, our efforts, health and wealth. Yet, we cannot even pray in the mosque five times a day. We have made our homes a graveyard. Our homes are void of mercy and blessings and we live like animals. We have no concern or awareness regarding our Hereafter and whether Allah ta'ala is pleased with our way of living. This generation is totally lost as a result.

We should compare our lives to Imaam Hussain رضي الله عنه and the tremendous sacrifices he made for the sake of his Deen. Yazid selected this world and Imaam Hussain رضي الله عنه selected the Hereafter.

We sacrifice our faith, our Quran and our knowledge in order to chase the world without pausing to consider whether we are earning this world or the Hereafter.

In reality, a believer should constantly evaluate his actions, measuring whether they are driven by the pursuit of the Dunya or the success of the Hereafter.

By attending the Dhikr gathering, we receive great reward, however, we should reflect over the objective of this Dhikr gathering.

Nabi ﷺ said to his noble companions. “Shall I not inform you of the best of your actions, the purest in the sight of your Lord, which raises your rank to the highest, which is better for you than spending gold and silver, better than meeting your enemy so that you strike at their necks and they strike at yours?’ They replied: ‘Yes, indeed,’ and he said: ‘It is the remembrance of Allah." [Tirmidhi Shareef]

The Dhikr of Allah ta'ala reverberates around the world just like the adhan. It is not a minor action and Allah ta'ala Himself selects and spreads this action of Dhikr through the mosques. This shows how important this deed is.

It is unfortunate that we often consider dhikr to be insignificant. We become preoccupied with the concerns of this world, focusing heavily on our children’s worldly success, their education, careers, financial stability, and marriage prospects while neglecting their spiritual growth and connection with Allah ta'ala.

The most wretched person is he who is healthy and fully able to perform the Dhikr of Allah ta'ala, yet, he fails to partake in the Dhikr gatherings. Such a person has prioritised this world over the Hereafter.

We should bring our children to these gatherings and value them deeply, showing gratitude for these gatherings. If we fail to appreciate such blessings, we risk being deprived of them.

In the Hadith above, the Prophet ﷺ highlighted the importance of Dhikr. The Noble companions رضي الله عنه often lived in state of poverty, lacking basic necessities like food and clothing. Despite these difficult circumstances, they showed great eagerness in performing deeds that would elevate their status in the Hereafter, rather than pursuing worldly benefits or focusing solely on fulfilling their worldly needs.

When we prioritise Dhikr, Allah ta'ala will place blessings in our provisions and our worldly affairs.

The pure Deen is that which is taught and practiced in accordance with the Sunnah. When this authentic Deen is already being taught in this land, it does not make sense to leave in search of another place simply to practice the Deen.

Whoever imitates the Prophet ﷺ in every aspect of his life, he is upon the straight path.

Why is Dhikr the best of all deeds?
We live in a generation polluted by evil and immodesty. We lack determination and courage to do what it is right. We have no desire to practice the Deen and we are simply afraid to practice. In fact, we have sold our Deen.

Dhikr is the best remedy for this era. It is a solution to this severe negligence because when a person performs Dhikr, he is enabled to practice His Deen with ease. Dhikr enables a person to pray in congregation and practice the Sunnah. Through dhikr, one's practice of Deen becomes strong.

If we wish to protect ourselves and our families, then we must adopt the habit of performing Dhikr.

Fulfilling prayers and reciting Quran may temporarily motivate us towards goodness, however, Dhikr is what grants us a more constant spiritual strength. It causes one to abandon all wrongdoing and it rectifies the deficiencies in one's Deen.
Our emotions are controlled by the heart. Nabi ﷺ mentioned that if a person's heart is correct and rectified, then his entire Deen is rectified.

A person's heart becomes impure due to his sins and Dhikr is the cleaning agent of the heart. We will not become proper Muslims until we take hold of this cure as we are desperately in need of it.

A man who does not keep a beard is an open sinner. He is not permitted to call out the adhaan or become an Imaam as he is openly rejecting. If he accepts his mistake, he is an open sinner. If he fails to accept his sin, then he is a disbeliever. This is because he goes against the orders of Allah ta'ala and His Prophet ﷺ. Such a person has created his own version of Islam and is deceived by Shaytan.

When a person faces darkness and he desires to be corrected, then he should hold tight upon Dhikr which will rectify his heart. When his heart becomes pure, he will gain the love for Allah ta'ala and His Rasul ﷺ. He will have belief in the Ahadith and begin implementing.

If a person repents sincerely, all his previous sins will be forgiven and his sins will be converted into good deeds. The Prophet ﷺ himself will supplicate for the one who repents.

Men and women should resolve, from this day forward, to uphold the commands of Allah ta'ala - men by keeping the beard and women by observing proper Hijab. We should be reminded that the punishments of Allah ta'ala are severe for those who neglect His commands.

We must make an intention to remain steadfast upon prayer in congregation and the Dhikr gatherings. Only then, a person is granted improvement.

Why is Dhikr the purest deed?

The deeds of the Noble Companions رضي الله عنهم were performed purely and sincerely. In fact, due to their great deeds, their faces were illuminated.

We may perform various acts of worship, however, our internal states remain impure. Dhikr is what purifies the dirt within us. All our spiritual diseases are wiped away through performing Dhikr. If we fail to remove these diseases, they will become apparent in the grave and we will be punished for them because we failed to extract them through Dhikr.

Dhikr is what raises a persons ranks to the highest level. The pious predecessors attained their ranks due to their great remembrance of Allah ta'ala. Those who remember Allah ta'ala, become the friends of Allah ta'ala and Allah ta'ala instructs the angels to love them.

If we desire the friendship and nearness of Allah ta'ala and we desire the complete Deen, then we must take hold of Dhikr.

"O believers! Enter into Islam wholeheartedly and do not follow Satan’s footsteps. Surely he is your sworn enemy." [2:208]

We have been commanded to follow Islam completely and wholeheartedly. It is unfortunate that our main concern often becomes this world. We fear worldly losses and constantly seek worldly gain. Only when our worldly desires are fulfilled do we feel content, forgetting that true contentment lies in the pleasure of Allah ta'ala.

The Noble Companions رضي الله عنهم strived to attain the complete Deen. If we desire Paradise and the pleasure of Allah ta'ala, then we should aim to live as the Noble Companions رضي الله عنهم did. Until death arrives, we must remain earning for the Hereafter. We must continue taking the name of Allah ta'ala.

Shaytan seeks to attack the believer up until the time of his death. He desires to rid him of faith. Thus, we must seek protection from Allah ta'ala always and preserve our faith.

We must live as true Muslims in this country and we should protect our Deen and the Deen of our children.

In reality, we are the most modern, forward- reaching, intellectual visionaries with the greatest way of life. We imitate the Prophet ﷺ who lived the best way of life. With such a perfect model before us, there is no need to imitate the lifestyles of others or seek alternative role models for the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ is timeless and sufficient for every aspect of life.

We must blindly follow him and imitate his actions without questioning and hesitation just like the Noble Companions رضي الله عنه.

Until we make him our role model, we cannot be successful.

We should have courage and determination in practising our Deen. In this country, we have not been prevented from following Islam. On the contrary, we are respected. Disrespect or abuse towards our dress code and religious practices is uncommon in our workplaces, thus, it is a shame that we allow fear or embarrassment to stop us from openly observing our Deen in public.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement these precious pearls. Ameen
