What is Hidaayah?

The soul of every act of worship is the Dhikr of Allah ta'ala. Without Dhikr, that act is a waste.

When a person performs the most beloved deed to Allah ta'ala, then Allah ta'ala makes him His beloved. He removes him from the darkness of the world and leads him to the light of Deen.

Allah ta'ala grants this deed to the sincere and pure people. One who makes a habit of Dhikr, possesses the love for Allah ta'ala. If a person is distanced from Dhikr, then he is detached from His Lord.

A person who is lazy towards dhikr, has destroyed his Deen. The more a person is attached to Dhikr, the stronger his connection to the Deen.

اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ
"Guide us to the straight path." [1:6]

The straight path is the path of guidance.

The most valuable thing in this world is guidance. Without guidance, a man has nothing even if he possesses much wealth.

We cannot follow our own criteria of guidance. The true meaning of guidance is that which has been clearly defined by Allah ta'ala.

The summary of the Quran is found in Surah Fatihah. We ask for guidance from Allah ta'ala via this Surah. The rightly guided people are those upon the straight path and only the rightly guided will be destined for Paradise.

Due to guidance, one will be granted forgiveness an
dis the definition of the straight path?

Those who follow the Messengers, the truthful and the martyrs, are the rightly guided people regarding whom Allah ta'ala has mentioned in the Quran. In order to be successful, we should strive to follow. If we at least try to imitate them, we will also become rightly guided. A teacher who invites his students towards this path, is the rightly guided teacher.

Allah ta'ala will continue to test us in this world through our children, poverty, hunger and wealth. We must persevere and remain steadfast upon the Deen no matter what comes our way.

The most important thing in life is to be guided. The previous nations were punished because they rejected the guidance.

What is guidance?

We claim to follow the Prophet ﷺ, yet, we follow the ways of those who incurred His anger. If we are truly upon the Deen, we must follow the ways of the Prophet through eating sitting and sleeping and all actions. Our entire lifestyle should be according to the Sunnah.

Unfortunately, we adjust our lifestyles by imitating the western ways. We are impressed with the ways of the disbelievers and we adopt their ways.

Even if we are upon the right path, we must be careful to avoid the ways of those who have earned Allah ta'ala's wrath and those who are cursed. If we imitate them, then we are not considered to be upon the right path.

We must assess our actions against the Sunnah and S
hariah and we must abandon those actions which go against them. We must fulfil what is lacking in our lives and correct our defects, otherwise, we will receive double punishment. This is because Allah ta'ala sent us to the gathering to be rectified, so we should take this opportunity to repent. If one leaves this gathering without repentance, he will not succeed.

After acknowledging our mistakes, we should repent even if it is done silently and make a firm promise to abandon our sins. A person who repents becomes deserving of Paradise.

We must remember that we are not upon the right path until we are imitating the Prophet ﷺ completely. If our lifestyle and our beliefs are mixed with those who are not upon the Deen, then we are not upon the path of guidance.

In the Hereafter, our deeds will be accounted for after our level of guidance is measured. If one is guided, then he will be successful and his deeds will be accepted.

The first condition of being upon the path of guidance, is that one should be upon the path of the Sunnah.

We must purify our homes and ensure we have solid Aqeedah. Even if there is one person in our homes who has poor Aqeedah and practice, he will destroy the entire home and be the cause of punishment for all.

The biggest desire for a Muslim, should be to earn guidance and be guided until his last breath.

How to acquire guidance?

"The dis
believers say, “If only a sign could be sent down to him from his Lord.” Say, ˹O Prophet ﷺ,˺ “Indeed, Allah leaves to stray whoever He wills, and guides to Himself whoever turns to Him." [13:27]

Deviation and guidance are in the control of Allah ta'ala. A person becomes deserving of guidance only when he sincerely seeks guidance.

If one has true desire and yearning for guidance, he will never leave these gatherings empty handed. Due to his yearning and his firm resolve to abandon wrongdoing, he will never lead a life of disobedience and he will detach himself from wrong.

The demands of the Mushrikeen were excessive. Those who rejected the guidance of Allah ta'ala, made demands to see signs and miracles. Consequently, they did not receive guidance. Even if such people were shown miracles, they would not accept. They were simply presenting excuses for not wanting to believe. A person who imitates and follows the truth without witnessing any miracles, he is an excellent person.

It is mentioned in Ahadith that if a person holds love and friendship with a friend of Allah for the sake of Allah ta'ala, then this relationship can never break. It is such a connection whereby one spends on his friend, sacrifices for his friend and is available for him during his time of need. This connection refers to Bay'ah with a Sheikh and this relationship is lasting.

Whomsoever extends his hand to a WaliAllah and befriends him, he has extended his hand to His Lord with full certainty. This act has been given a lofty rank because it is through the means of waliAllah, that a person attains guidance. A Sheikh revives the soul of a student and his Deen. This is why this friendship is the most successful.

Whoever makes friendship with a person, (like a waliAllah) for the sake of Allah ta'ala, then he has fulfilled many rights of Allah ta'ala and he has honoured Allah ta'ala.

We should have belief in our Sheikh as he has introduced us to Allah ta'ala and revived our heart.
An insincere student seeks miracles and material attributes of the teacher. He seeks worldly connections and overlooks the fact that the Sheikh has revived his heart. Such a student rejects the Deen after he is shown it in order to seek an easier path.

Such students are equivalent to those Mushrikeen who demanded signs and miracles from the Prophet ﷺ.
The circumstances and environment that surround a person, certainly impact him and his faith. It also becomes the cause of his Deen becoming contaminated particularly, when one keeps connections with those who hold incorrect belief and practice.

If we feel rejection in our heart and we do not have that deep rooted desire to become close to Allah ta'ala, then we have ulterior motives regarding what we seek from Allah ta'ala.

A person is truly guided when he has purified himself from all evil and wrongdoing and his lifestyle does not conform with those who have incurred the wrath and curse of Allah ta'ala. He cannot succeed upon both paths and all his knowledge and actions go to waste if his Deen is contaminated.

The successful person is he who is always yearning for guidance and is never complacent with his knowledge and his deeds. The one who rejects guidance, is the one who is confident upon his piety and his knowledge.

Similarly, the successful scholar is he who is connected to his books and his knowledge throughout his entire life. He never seeks honour and dignity in the world.

The one who is disconnected from his knowledge, considers himself independent of guidance. This is why he cannot be successful.

The first step to acquiring guidance is to develop the yearning for it and to work hard to acquire it. We should not demand signs and seek questions. Those who do such, are not really seeking the truth. The true student is he who acknowledges his defects and improves himself during the first gathering he attends. An insincere person has rejected the Deen and he will never improve even if he attends a thousand gatherings.

We should be desperate for guidance. Allah ta'ala has granted us acts of worship to strengthen our yearning for guidance and to boost our fait
h so that we can develop further desire and passion for the Deen.

Allah ta'ala created the earth and the cycles of nature for us, yet, we commit evil and impure actions upon the earth. He has granted us animals, fruits and various types of goodness from the earth. Those who have a true yearning of guidance, recognise Allah through His signs in the world.

Nabi ﷺ selected the door of repentance for his nation. Allah ta'ala addressed the Prophet ﷺ and said, "If your nation demands to seek miracles and do not accept my signs in the world, then they will not be guided, just like the previous nations. If they seek miracles and visions, they will be shown, however, they will be punished very severely. If they repent, then I will certainly forgive their sins."

We should not hesitate to repent or become closer to Allah ta'ala. We may face mockery from our own family and relatives in the process, however, we should bear the criticism in order to receive ease, enjoyment and a high reward in the Hereafter.

If we repeat the sins after listening to this gathering, then the punishment inflicted upon us will be very severe.

We should consider death to be around the corner. Whoever does not have a deep connection with regards to his life and death, he cannot be guided nor become successful.

May Allah ta'ala allow us the ability to implement these words of wisdom. Ameen.
