"Oh Allah! Grant us blessings during (the months of) Rajab and Sha'ban, and allow us to reach Ramadan"
This supplication is Ramadan itself. This month is so special that we must start preparing three months in advance. This is so that we can avoid wasting time in Ramadan, as through this sacred month, we are given great opportunities to improve ourselves and prepare for our Hereafter.
We should recite this supplication in Rajab in order to attain the blessings of this month and to attain the preparation of Ramadan.
During Rajab, the incomparable incident of Mi'raaj occurred. Nabi ﷺ was given the honour to ascend the heavens. The journey began at Baytul Maqdis and upon every heaven, unique incidents took place. During this incident, the heavens were decorated and the angels, as well as all the Prophets عليهم السلام were waiting for him and Nabi ﷺ was presented to them. Allah ta'ala Himself also waited to meet him.
Hadhrat Jibraeel عليه السلام accompanied the Prophet ﷺ throughout this journey until the point of Sidratul Muntaha where he stopped. At this point, Nabi ﷺ advanced ahead and all the veils of light were removed between him ﷺ and Allah ta'ala. Time stood still and the secret discussion took place between the beloveds whilst the exact details of the meeting are unknown.
Thereafter, Nabi ﷺ's reality came in to being, although, only Allah ta'ala is truly aware of the Prophet ﷺ's unique status.
Allah ta'ala granted Nabi ﷺ great qualities which are unique from the rest of Mankind. We are unable to describe his brilliance. Through this incident, Allah ta'ala demonstrated the greatness of the Prophet ﷺ.
Mi'raaj is merely one sign of the Prophet ﷺ's greatness and only one example of the magnificence of Allah ta'ala. Every prostration of the Prophet ﷺ was Mi'raaj. In reality, the believer's Mi'raaj lies in prayer.
Why did Allah ta'ala demonstrate this to us?
The connection between Allah ta'ala and His Habib ﷺ is very great, as well as a private affair. In reality, Nabi ﷺ is the source of all the greatness in the world and his connection with Allah ta'ala is unique.
Allah ta'ala enabled Nabi ﷺ to connect Mankind to Allah ta'ala through his intermediary and to demonstrate the greatness of Allah ta'ala. This is the reason He ﷺ was sent to Mankind.
During the meeting of Mi'raaj, Nabi ﷺ made mention of his nation as he desired us to benefit and had extreme concern for us. We should be thankful for being part of his nation.
In order to please the Prophet ﷺ, Allah ta'ala gave a gift of five time prayers to him for the benefit of his nation. This gift for us was the objective of this incident of Mi'raaj.
Nabi ﷺ status extends higher than this event of Mi'raj, yet, this incident was in fact, for the sake of gifting the Prophet ﷺ's nation with prayer.
When a believer performs prostration, he attains the closeness of Allah ta'ala and he experiences the Mi'raaj. This is the status which Allah ta'ala has granted us. Without connection to prayers, one cannot be connected to Allah ta'ala.
Allah ta'ala has instilled everything a believer requires in prayer and a believer can attain all success from prayer. Because prayer is such a great act of worship, Allah ta'ala allowed this unique event to take place, to demonstrate its greatness.
What is the foundation of every good deed? Islam. The more our faith and belief is strong, the stronger the depth of our good deeds. If we are weak in faith, our good deeds go to waste.
Nabi ﷺ once said to Hadhrat Muadh Ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه, "Shall I tell you of the root of the matter, its pillar and its highest point?" I replied: "Yes! Certainly, O Prophet of Allah ﷺ." He said, "The root of this matter (foundation) is Islam, its pillar is prayer..." [Tirmidhi Shareef]
The real success of every building is the foundation. We should assess how strong are actions are and what is the foundation? In reality, one is unable to practice until his foundation is strong.
The pillars of our Deen are prayers. It is a shame that we abandon prayers whilst desiring promotion in the world. The one who fails to value prayers and abandons prayers has no connection with Allah ta'ala. Allah ta'ala will grant such a person hardship and problems.
The biggest oppressors are those parents who do not encourage their children to pray. Such people can never be successful. By neglecting prayers and pushing our children towards worldly success, we are in fact, oppressing them. Rather, we should disconnect ourselves from our spouse and children who do not pray.
The Ummah is destroyed today because we fail to pray. We should realise the glory of prayer and understand the message of Mi'raaj. We should avoid oppressing ourselves and our families. We should save our families from Hellfire just like we are saving one from a burning house! Such a person who abandons prayer is certainly punished in this world and he will be destroyed.
As soon as our children turn seven years old, we should encourage them to pray and take them to the mosque. This is true justice shown towards them.
How will Allah ta'ala reckon our deeds?
Allah ta'ala will reward us according to the level and focus of our prayers.
The Sunnah is what should dictate our practice of the Deen instead of following our whims and desires. It is a shame that we wear the attire of the Non Muslims whilst fulfilling our prayers.
Allah ta'ala states that he who prays to Him, will be shown justice and whomsoever abandons prayers, will be destroyed. It is a display of injustice if He does not punish the one who fails to observe prayers.
There is no harm in desiring success in this world and seeking to extend one's business and worldly provisions. However, one should ensure that he does so in a manner which is preferred by Allah ta'ala. We should include prayers in all facets of our life. This will ensure blessings in our life and the pleasure of Allah ta'ala will also be attained. Furthermore, our prayers will produce light and this will impact all our deeds.
Every action of prayer came from the night of Mi'raaj. We can never fulfil the rights of prayer as is due, however, we try our best to pray correctly and this is immensely appreciated by Allah.
We should always try to improve our prayers and this should be our daily concern. One prayer should be performed better than the previous prayer. A person who remains focused upon his prayers, Allah ta'ala becomes responsible of improving his quality of life. Allah ta'ala places improvement in such a person's children and his earnings. Allah ta'ala is our Helper and He becomes pleased when we promise to improve our prayers.
The more focus and attention in prayers, the more we become able to witness Allah ta'ala.
We must assess and work hard upon our prayers. We should focus on how to improve our prayers and earn enjoyment and satisfaction from our prayers. We should use the Miswak during wudu, don the Sunnah clothing and apply a nice scent. This is how to prepare for prayers.
If we truly love someone, we would imitate them. Thus, our basis of life should be the Sunnah.
Firstly, we should please our Sheikh by imitating him and then we can advance further.
To improve prayers, one must connect himself with a Sheikh. We must have the desire of improving our prayers and this desire is created through attaining the company of a Sheikh.
We must be sincere in our desire to improve. We should request to improve our prayers with sincere intentions. In return, Allah ta'ala will complete all our desires through this one desire.
We must follow the guidance of our teacher in order to be connected to the Sheikh. This is how to become a true student. We must sacrifice worldly things in order to obey the instructions of our Sheikh. The more we sacrifice, the more our status is elevated and the more our strength of imaan and reliance in Him will increase.
Allah ta'ala becomes pleased through dhikr. This act demonstrates our gratitude to Him.
May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement these precious pearls of wisdom.

Rajab is one of the sacred months. Nabi ﷺ would recite the following supplication when the Month of Rajab would commence:
اَللّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَناَ فِيْ رَجَبٍ وَشَعْبانَ وَبَلّغْنَا رَمَضَانْ
"Oh Allah! Grant us blessings during (the months of) Rajab and Sha'ban, and allow us to reach Ramadan"
