Majlis-e-Dhikr in Burnley

The dhikr of Allah ta'ala is what creates the concern of the Hereafter within a person. Only with concern, a person makes effort, otherwise, he is complacent with his life.

Nowadays, we display concern over worldly matters which are irrelevant towards our purpose of life. These concerns have overwhelmed us and we consider it a part of our success. Unfortunately, it is the worldly motivation which also influences our worship.

Why do we lack righteous people around us?

The righteous person is he who upon witnessing, Allah ta'ala is remembered. Allah ta'ala's mercy and blessings are distributed via the pious people. Today, we lack pious individuals in our society and all difficulties and disorder we face, are due to this reason.

If we desire righteous children and a righteous wife, we must become righteous ourselves. Often, Allah ta'ala does not grant children to spouses due to their sins. Therefore, they must repent.

There is no goodness in a home which is full of immodesty and corruption and wherein prayer is not fulfilled. Whenever there is fighting and disorder in our homes, we should look towards our connection with Allah ta'ala and our concern for the Hereafter. The stronger our connection with Allah ta'ala, the more our life will become beautiful.

We perform abundant physical worship, however, we fail to focus on that worship which will make us a righteous person and accepted by Allah ta'ala.

This worship which Nabi ﷺ taught the companions, refers to having excellent conduct and character.

The AwliyahAllah became the beloved of Allah ta'ala due to their excellent character. We must take effort and initiate the steps if we wish to improve ourselves. The results will certainly appear when Allah ta'ala wills, however, we should not become despondent.

Sadly, we have destroyed our own worship due to our bad character. We hold hopes in our worship that it will earn us Paradise. Rather, our worship may not be accepted in the court of Allah ta'ala due to our misdeeds.

The scholars will be called first on the day of Qiyamah, then the martyrs and then the generous people who would spend in the path of Allah ta'ala. The scholar will be questioned why he sought and taught knowledge and it will be exposed that he done so for worldly purposes.

All three people will be questioned by Allah ta'ala regarding their intentions - whether they performed their actions for the sake of people or for the sake of Allah ta'ala.

Thus, we must be sincere in our actions in order to attain success in the Hereafter and we should not seek to worship in order to earn the world in return, nor earn recognition.

We must learn dhikr solely for the sake of Allah ta'ala and not for any worldly benefit, otherwise, our dhikr will not benefit us in the Hereafter. Similarly, we must visit the waliAllah solely for self-rectification, otherwise, our efforts will be futile and will form a barrier for us and we will soon be exposed in the Hereafter.

If our actions were truly performed solely for the sake of Allah ta'ala, we would achieve the nearness of Allah ta'ala and there would be no discord amongst us.

Good deeds which are carried out sincerely for the sake of Allah ta'ala, are done in private. Therefore, we must fulfil this requirement. We must assess our intentions and ensure that our good deeds are performed solely for the sake of Allah ta'ala. We must hide our good deeds if we desire Allah ta'ala to reward us in the Hereafter.

The true worship is to attain great character. This is what causes our physical worship, such as Umrah and prayer, to become accepted.

In reality, when a person's heart and character and developed, he becomes compelled to perform good deeds for the sake of humanity. This is because his heart has been rectified and he visited the Sheikh for the purpose of rectifying his character. If we do not visit the waliAllah with the correct intention, then we will fail to achieve good character. Rather, we will be the cause of evil and corruption in society.

Shaytan has deceived us in to believing that we have attained a high status and great rewards via showing us good dreams. We should not trust our dreams. Rather, we should assess whether we are implementing the teachings of our Sheikh and then reprimand ourselves accordingly.

We are required to fulfil the faraaidh of Islam, however, we must honour Islam and attain Allah ta'ala's pleasure by correcting our manners. We face widespread corruption today due our spoilt character which has made us bandits.

The objective of visiting a waliAllah is to have our bad habits exposed so that we may reform ourselves.

If we wish to reform ourselves, we must adopt the company of a WaliAllah with the purpose of attaining good character. If we fail to rectify our conduct, then we are hypocrites. We should accept the message of the Sheikh and follow him blindly.

Nabi ﷺ said, “Verily, the believer may reach the status of one who regularly fasts and prays at night through his good character.” [Abu Dawud Shareef]

If a person possesses excellent character, then he will reach that level whereby his fasting and prayer becomes genuine and a cause of earning the pleasure of Allah ta'ala.

We must take care of Allah ta'ala's creation, look after our neighbours, take care of our children and our wife and avoid quarrelling. These are considered high level forms of worship.

We ought to impress Non-Believers through our good character and love. It is a shame that those who we are required to influence towards Islam, are criticising us for going against the Quran.

Having good character, displaying patience and tolerance, enduring pain, respecting elders and loving youngsters, are what makes a person successful in both worlds.

The one who has pleased his wife, his character has reached the heights. We should maintain ties with those who seek to sever them and fulfil the rights of others. If we fulfil the duties of our parents and our spouse, then we are successful. This is the way to please Allah ta'ala.

We cannot expect to have all our desires fulfilled in this world, as this world is not Paradise. We should not complain to Allah ta'ala when we face difficulties. Rather, we must be satisfied and ask Allah ta'ala for endurance.

Challenges are sometimes a form of punishment for us or a test. What we must do, is detach ourselves from the world, destroy our worldly desires and anticipate having our desires fulfilled in the Hereafter.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen
