How Do We Stay on the Straight Path?

The pious people worked hard to establish these gatherings of dhikr. The objective of these gatherings are to reform society and ourselves.

As the era goes further away from the time of the Prophet , corruption and evil are rapidly increasing and the paths to innovation are expanding. We are easily attracted to wrongdoing and this is the corruption of this time.

Each of us are on a journey. Either we are wasting our time in pursuit of worldly feats or we are travelling towards Paradise through actions performed for the sake of the Hereafter.

If one implements the orders of Allah ta'ala and His Prophet ﷺ, even through worldly difficulties and pain, he will be protected. In reality, the problems in this world are nothing compared to the fire of Hell. Thus, we should persevere, as this world is temporary.
If we go against the instructions of Allah ta'ala and Nabi ﷺ, we end up facing destruction and so do our children.

In this world, we persevere through any troubles we face on a journey because we understand that the journey is temporary and we will soon reach our destination. Similarly, we are travellers on this journey of life and our destination is the Hereafter so we should persevere through the temporary difficulties.

For our journey in this world, we have been given a route, which is the Quran. Whoever accepts the Quran, is upon the path of guidance. Thus, we must always keep a connection with the Quran. The punishment of the previous nations have been mentioned in the Quran as warnings for us.
We must look out for these signs and examples and take heed from them otherwise we will face similar conclusions for our wrongdoing.

Through the story of Hadhrat Yusuf عليه السلام, Allah ta'ala grants us examples regarding jealousy, envy and unlawful actions. These are signs for the righteous who wish to become close to Allah ta'ala. We must take lessons from them so that we may reach our destination.

Without the Quran, one cannot attain guidance and without guidance we cannot become close to Allah ta'ala. Rather, such a person will become wretched and he will be destined for Hellfire.

Hadhrat Yusuf عليه السلام relayed the dream he witnessed to his father Hadhrat Yaqub عليه السلام who interpreted his sons dream and explained its reality. His father warned him to protect himself from his brothers.

Unfortunately, his brothers became jealous and plotted to take the life of Hadhrat Yusuf عليه السلام solely for the reason that their father showed more affection towards him. He was thrown in to a well, bought as a slave, faced trials, he was accused and imprisoned, then he became a king and his brothers eventually submitted to him.

These are different phases of one's life. Allah ta'ala explains to us through his example that we as humans, face ups and downs in our life. However, we are required to reach our destination of life despite the trials we face, just as Hadhrat Yusuf عليه السلام did. He stood firm upon the truth and eventually, truth prevailed over falsehood and everyone submitted to him.

If we wish to be successful and become close to Allah ta'ala, we must take Shaytan as an enemy instead of succumbing to sins. The reason we commit wrongdoing, is due to the influence of Shaytan.

We must follow the Quran and save ourselves form Shaytan and in return, we will reach our destination. If we fail to take hold of the Quran, we will lose our way.

What is the difference between Surah Falaq and Surah Naas?

We seek refuge and protection from Allah ta'ala through both Surah's.

In Surah Falaq, through one attribute of Allah ta'ala, we seek protection from three things. The commentators have mentioned that these three things are worldly related, jealousy, jinns, magic sickness and distress.

This is to show that if we face such type of worldly problems, then one attribute of Allah ta'ala is sufficient to protect us from them. Thereafter, those problems will not affect us.

On the other hand, in Surah Naas, we seek refuge in Allah ta'ala for one thing using three qualities of Allah ta'ala. Rab, Maalik and Ilaah. He is the Lord, the Owner and the King of all the Kings. We seek His protection using all three attribute against the whispers of Shaytan. This is the power of the opposition we face.

As opposed to worldly problems, this pain is related to the Hereafter. The pain of this world may cause our death but is no where near the pain of the Hereafter.

It is through the influence of Shaytan we commit various sins. Thus, we should constantly seek protection from Shaytan.

Allah ta'ala helped Hadhrat Yusuf عليه السلام in all stages of his life. Successful is that believer who recognises the whispers of Shaytan. If we wish to depart this world safely and peacefully, we must fight Shaytan.

If Allah ta'ala has granted the power to Shaytan to deviate us, then Allah ta'ala has also granted Mankind the power to ward him off. Shaytan utilises his complete power to deviate us, however, unfortunately we do not utilise the power Allah ta'ala has granted us to safeguard ourselves from Shaytan.

We do not utilise our resources and we sell ourselves to Shaytan by committing all sorts of sins and going against the Quran. We hate the Sunnah and we prefer to imitate those who do not follow the Sunnah.

Hadhrat Yusuf عليه السلام 's story is an example of Shaytan placing whispers in different people's mind. Shaytan influenced the brothers of Hadhrat Yusuf عليه السلام to plot against him.

Eventually, the brothers admitted that they had made a mistake and they sought forgiveness. Similarly, when we accept our mistakes in the court of Allah ta'ala, Allah ta'ala forgives us and wipes it away from our slate.

We are so weak and we fail to repent and have accepted Hellfire as our abode. It is Shaytan who causes us to perform various unlawful actions leading to Hellfire. We must fight with him all the time and not surrender to him.

The weapon against Shaytan is the dhikr of Allah ta'ala. When one begins performing dhikr, it is as though he has entered a fort of protection. We must utilise the weapon which Allah ta'ala has granted us.

The soul is given strength due to the dhikr of Allah ta'ala. Shaytan flees from the gatherings of dhikr. The one who distances himself from these gatherings, will certainly be immersed in unique and innovative sins.

On the other hand, those who adopt these gatherings, have desire and concern for the Hereafter. They desire goodness for their Hereafter.

To strengthen our deen and attain goodness in both worlds, we must be steadfast upon attending the dhikr gatherings.

In a Hadith, Nabi ﷺ mentioned that if one desires strength in his deen in which Shaytan’s whispers does not overwhelm him, rather Allah ta'ala's instructions overwhelm him, he is granted goodness in this world and the Hereafter, then the cure is to take hold of the dhikr gatherings firmly.

We must perform abundant dhikr because this is what will save us at the time of death. Subsequently, such a dhaakir will die with the Kalimah and with dhikr upon his tongue.

Shaytan can never attack those people who immediately repent and are regretful after committing a sin. This is the method of becoming a successful person.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement.
