What is the Most Dangerous Thing We Must Save Ourselves From?

Allah ta'ala has gathered us here for His remembrance tonight due to His mercy. We ourselves do not have the ability or the awareness for this. Allah ta'ala grants us these bounties without us seeking them to save us from the punishments of the Hereafter. We are commanded to be thankful for these blessings. The more grateful we are, the more our life is made easy for us.

We live in this world with caution and we protect ourselves from worldly dangers and hazards, such as fires, storms and snakes. It is a shame that we fail to protect ourselves from the dangers of sin in the same way. Sins are the greatest loss for a human being and they cannot compare to worldly losses and dangers.

The consequences of sins are severe. Allah ta'ala displays His displeasure towards an individual who sins. Such a person will face a severe Hereafter.

When nafs and Shaytan overtake a sinner, he becomes stubborn upon his sin. He continues living his life comfortably believing that he is not facing the consequences of his actions, although he is destroyed. In reality, due to Allah ta'ala's mercy, He does not take the sinners to task immediately.

We face different phases and challenges in life and this is Allah ta'ala's way of testing our obedience and loyalty to Him. Being prosperous in life is not a sign of success if one is disobeying Allah ta'ala alongside.

To save ourselves from one sin is superior to performing a million Tahajjud prayers. If one safeguards himself from wrongdoing in this generation wherein sinning is rife and deemed acceptable, his status is elevated even more by Allah ta'ala.

We must assess our situation today and realise that we have no excuse to practice our deen. If we struggle to practice here, we must migrate to a better place but with the intention of practicing the deen and not for any worldly purpose. If we migrate for a worldly purpose such as acquiring wealth, Allah ta'ala will make our children disobedient because such a person has made the world his sole purpose.

If we wish to remain in our country, we must become courageous and practice the deen and the Sunnah here. In reality, we should practice the Sunnah whenever we are.

Listening to speeches is not enough to reform a person if he fails to analyse and ponder over himself. We must have the recognition of sin in order to be safe from it, otherwise one is overwhelmed by evil and temptations.

The Quran was granted to the believers as a cure and for mercy and guidance. The mercy of the Hereafter is attached to the Quran. Whoever takes hold of the Quran acknowledging that it has the capacity to prevent a person from wrongdoing and leads a person towards goodness, then his status is elevated and the Quran becomes a light for him.

We should embrace and accept the guidance of the Quran. If we take this guidance then three qualities will be instilled within us. Our heart will become purified, the doors of guidance are opened for us and we are granted Allah ta'ala's mercy and closeness and a high rank.

A sinner is punished for sure and taken to account. However, if he repents, then Allah ta'ala will forgive him. Major sins are not forgiven without sincere repentance. However, if one disregards his sin and forgets to repent, he should be warned because he will be punished.

The sins inflicted upon society are not forgiven through repentance. Rather, one must seek forgiveness from the person he wronged and dishonoured. Our worship will not benefit and aid us until we seek forgiveness.

How to save ourselves from sins?

A person sins when he is confident in himself and when he is distant from Allah ta'ala. On the other hand, he is protected from sins when he becomes closer to Allah ta'ala. The way to save ourselves from sins is to perform the dhikr of Allah ta'ala in abundance. This will bring us close to Him. Such a person will not be lead towards impure actions. Rather, the angels will protect him and he will flourish in his business, his earnings and with regards to his family affairs.

When a person is lazy from dhikr, a person becomes weak in prayer and other deeds. It is Fard upon us to pray Fajr in congregation whether we have work or not, otherwise, we will be punished.

Nabi ﷺ stated that the best dhikr is silent dhikr. Imam Ghazali Rahmatullahi Alayh explains that silent dhikr refers to Muraqabah - remembering Allah ta'ala silently and having an inner concern. This action causes one to become close to Allah ta'ala and it is an action which requires very minimal effort.

Hadhrat Aishah RadiyAllaha Anha narrates that silent dhikr is seventy times greater than dhikr performed with the tongue. Silent dhikr must be learnt from a Kaamil Sheikh and cannot be performed alone. Thereafter, a person may sit in Muraqabah and it will lead him towards Allah ta'ala's closeness.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen
