The pious predecessors singled out the night of Jumuah to carry out valuable deeds. Allah ta'ala has enabled us to follow in their footsteps and gather for this spiritual gathering.
Every person has desires but sometimes our personal desires are not fulfilled. If we do not exert ourselves and make effort alongside having a permissible desire, then that desire is merely a waste. With effort, comes Allah ta'ala's assistance no matter how difficult the path.
A person must hold a desire as well as exercising physical effort, in order to reach his destination. Every person, no matter his level of faith, has a desire for Paradise and a desire to be safe from Hellfire and punishments. This is a sign of our faith. We must assess how much effort we are making to fulfil this desire.
"Those who do good will have the finest reward and even more. Neither gloom nor disgrace will cover their faces. It is they who will be the residents of Paradise. They will be there forever." [10:26]
This verse refers to those who perform good actions alongside having faith. They are those who seek to fulfil their ambition of receiving Paradise. To earn Paradise, we must perform good deeds. Thereafter, Allah promises a beautiful Paradise for such a person.
In Paradise, a caller will call out to those people who recited and implemented the Quran. Nabi ﷺ recited this very verse and then he explained that a person will receive a better reward after receiving Paradise. Allah ta'ala will fulfil His remaining promise of the Hereafter which is to allow the inhabitants of Paradise to witness His vision. This is what زِيَادَةٌ refers to.
The inhabitants of Paradise will proclaim their happiness and satisfaction upon receiving Paradise. They will say, 'You have already granted us heavy rewards in exchange for our deeds and our desires are fulfilled. You have made our faces shine bright. What is there left to grant us?"
Upon their words, the veil will be removed and every man of Paradise will witness Allah ta'ala. This will be the wealth of Paradise.
Nabi ﷺ then said, "I swear by Allah, there will be no greater reward in Paradise than seeing Allah ta'ala. Their eyes will be cooled upon His vision."
This reward is for those who practiced good deeds and they achieved their desire for Paradise. They fulfilled the deeds which Allah ta'ala ordered them to fulfil. Only through this, a person gains success.
There are two kalimaat which the inhabitants of Paradise will recite. One is 'SubhaanAllah' and the other is 'Salaam.' Whenever the inhabitant recites 'SubhaanAllah', he will be granted whatever his heart desired. Even if he does not request verbally, the message will be conveyed to the angels and they will fulfil the desire which he had in his mind.
There are two types of actions. One is to fulfil what Allah ta'ala has enjoined upon us and one is to abstain from what He has prohibited for us. Both combined in practice refer to 'righteous deeds.' We must not take shortcuts in our actions such as engaging in various good actions like dhikr, whilst sinning alongside.
"Those who do evil deeds, the recompense of an evil deed is its like, and humiliation shall spread over them and there will be none to protect them from Allah. Darkness will cover their faces as though they were veiled with the dark blackness of night." [10:27]
Those who sin and worship at the same time, will receive nothing. Their place of abode will be Hellfire. Their faces will embody shame and disgrace and their dark faces will blend in with the intense darkness of the night.
A person who fulfils the five pillars of Islam and tries his best to abstain from sins, will receive a high level of Paradise and will be granted the vision of Allah ta'ala. On the other hand, the one who performs various acts of good deeds and sins alongside and considers it insignificant, he will be granted a terrible abode.
Along with faith, Allah ta'ala has granted us an opportunity in this world to protect ourselves from sins and to perform good deeds. This is the only way we will be able to achieve our desire of Paradise.
However, if a person falls to the trap of Shaytan and commits sins, he should repent immediately. Allah ta'ala grants us many opportunities to be forgiven such as pledging allegiance with a Sheikh. It is only due to our desires and Shaytan that we look towards our physical worship instead of the sins we commit.
It is incorrect for a person to distribute his unlawfully earned wealth in charity because his earnings are based upon sin. Such a person has committed Shirk. Our earnings should be pure and Halal if we wish to distribute amongst the poor.
We spend our life-long attaining employment, cars and assets because we have considered this world as Paradise. These gatherings remind us of our direction of life. They remind us to turn our concern towards the permanent Hereafter.
We engage in various sins in order to be promoted in this world and to earn. Rather, we should assess how much effort we made in the last twenty fours hours to abstain from sins.
Allah ta'ala has opened up many paths for our rectification.
Hadhrat Sheikh Mawlana Ashraf Ali Thanwi Rahmatullahi Alayh was once asked how a person can acquire the love of Allah ta'ala. He responded saying, "to follow the footsteps of those who have already acquired the love of Allah ta'ala."
Thus, we should blindly follow the footsteps of our pious predecessors and we will be granted success. We should assign ourselves to their company with sincerity. This is how we will attain Allah ta'ala's nearness.
When we visit the Sheikh, our sole intention should be for rectification and attaining Allah ta'ala's nearness, otherwise we will not acquire His love with corrupt intentions and worldly desires. We will only receive punishment in return.
