Allah ta'ala has granted us the permission to request and plead to Him. We do not have the courage to question and approach those with a high status in this world. However, Allah ta'ala, The Highest, has granted us the blessing of requesting from Him directly whenever we are in need. This is through His Mercy and Grace upon us.
Allah ta'ala has granted us the intellect and methodology to ask from Him. He has taught us the duas and what to seek from Him and what is necessary for us to seek. He accepts our duas even if we request Him for something small. It is unfortunate that despite receiving this open invitation from Allah ta'ala, we seek to fulfil our needs from others.
In reality, we should have a strong relationship with Allah ta'ala, such that we should ask Him with certainty. The more certainty we have, the stronger our relationship with Him. Those who fail to ask Him with certainty have weak faith in Him.
وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا
Allah ta'ala teaches us to ask Him for forgiveness and salvation. This is what is important, not the worldly things we seek which are temporary and will not benefit us. If we seek forgiveness in the world, we are successful.
To seek His forgiveness is a great treasure as we are all immersed in sins and to die with a sin causes a person to enter Hellfire. When we seek His forgiveness for our sins, He removes them all.
Why has Allah ta'ala mentioned وَارْحَمْنَا after وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا?
This is because Allah ta'ala desires to grant us a high status in Paradise. It is not easy to attain Paradise. We will be assessed through our deeds with every phase of the Hereafter. By saying وَارْحَمْنَا, we are asking Allah ta'ala to make our phases of life easy for us, as well as our Hereafter. It is only by Allah ta'ala's mercy, we are granted His assistance in every step of life and the Hereafter.
There is no greater act of worship besides supplicating to Allah ta'ala. Dua is what draws a person closer to Allah ta'ala and strengthens the relationship with Him. Allah ta'ala is most pleased when we ask Him for those things which He has taught us to ask, instead of requesting for our worldly needs. This action displays a person's certainty in Allah ta'ala.
When we request those things which Allah ta'ala has taught us to seek, Allah ta'ala grants us those things which we desire without us even asking.
We are so devoid of humanity that even when our close relatives pass away, it doesn't impact us. We fail to consider the consequences they may be facing in the Hereafter. We forget them and fail to pray for them. This is because we do not have the recognition that death is a reality.
The purpose of Tazkiyah and dhikr of Allah ta'ala is that our hearts should be soft and filled with the awe and fear of Allah ta'ala. We should have concern for the Hereafter.
Before performing any action, we should first assess whether it will benefit our Hereafter or cause us loss. We should weigh all decisions based on the Hereafter instead of focusing on attaining worldly benefits.
It is a shame that we do not have any care in the world for our Hereafter. The cause of this is our nafs and Shaytan which make us complacent with our deeds and makes us feel secure.
اللهمَّ حاسِبنِي حِسابًا يَسِيرًا
"O Allah, bring me to account with an easy reckoning.”
Hadhrat Aishah Radiyallaha Anha asked Nabi ﷺ regarding this dua, "What is an easy reckoning?" He ﷺ replied that Allah ta'ala will look towards the actions of His servant and then He will remain silent. Thereafter, He will admit this person in to Paradise. This means that such a person's deeds will be accepted and not questioned by Allah ta'ala.
Who are these people?
Hadhrat Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه asked the Prophet ﷺ, "Who are the people who will be called to Paradise first without reckoning? How did they deserve this?" He replied that they are those who engaged in abundant dhikr regardless of what they faced in the world from hunger, poverty and sadness. Nothing in the world prevented them from dhikr and they always hastened towards it. They remembered Allah ta'ala morning and evening when they were young and old. Dhikr was their essence of life and they understood its importance. They understood that their success was through dhikr. They did not allow their practice of dhikr to end and nothing in the world prevented them from it.
In a Hadith it is mentioned that Hadhrat Jibraeel عليه السلام approached Nabi ﷺ many times emphasising the action of dhikr, such that he realised that a person cannot attain benefit without dhikr.
In reality, a person incurs loss by shunning dhikr.l and the AwaliyahAllah achieved the heights by performing dhikr. Dhikr leads one to good deeds. It purifies one's deeds and brings them to the level of acceptance. It causes one to enter Paradise. In fact, it is the soul of every deed. If one performs an action without dhikr, he has removed the soul of that worship, meaning, his deeds have become contaminated with worldly intentions, such as ostentation. Without dhikr, his actions become worthless. With dhikr, the value of one's deeds are increased and deeds are accepted.
What makes us lazy from dhikr?
Shaytan seeks to prevent us from the dhikr gatherings. However, if a person has a strong connection with his Sheikh, he is not impacted by the whispers of Shaytan which seek to prevent him from the dhikr gatherings. This is because the Sheikh's attention and affections leads a person to the gathering.
On the other hand, if the student has a weak connection with his teacher and he commits sins, he succumbs to the whispers of Shaytan and Shaytan succeeds.
Thus, spiritual attachment with a Sheikh gives benefit to a student. This is the good company which willl assist us.
The one who is not connected to a Sheikh is a very weak student. He has no schedule and system. He is stuck in sins.
Allah ta'ala has placed the impact within the Sheikh's actions so that the student may be saved from sins and failure through his Sheikh's Tawajjuh.
Good things are not acquired through ease. They require hard work. The more a person makes a sacrifice in order to attend the dhikr gathering, the more he is elevated.
Thr strongest relationship in the world is between the Kaamil Sheikh and the student. A Kaamil Sheikh is he who opens up the path to Allah ta'ala for his student. This is his only purpose.
When we pledge allegiance to a Sheikh, we are in fact pledging allegiance to Allah ta'ala. We assign our life, health and wealth for His sake and He grants us Paradise in return. This is the real success which a student achieves.
A student sacrifices himself and his life for the sake of Allah ta'ala through the company of his Sheikh. He is given Paradise in return.
If he ever slips up through his actions, the Sheikhs attention and focus protects him and brings him back upon the path. This is the system of Allah ta'ala.
The benefits of having a Sheikh is that the love of the world decreases within a person. It enables one to practice the Sunnah and grants a person the love for the Sunnah.
We require a Sheikh because if we follow our own deen, we will be destroyed and your deeds will become wasted.
