How Can We Save Our Iman?

Nothing in this universe has been created without a purpose. Out of all creation, mankind is the most fortunate as they attain the blessings and treasures of Allah ta'ala.

The purpose of life is to be pleased with Allah ta'ala, as well as attain His pleasure. When we attain this objective, we are granted Paradise. We should recognise the way to please Allah ta'ala and avoid earning His displeasure.

Every act is a form of worship for a believer. For example, to earn a Halal sustenance and to feed the wife and children with one's hand.

The way to please Allah ta'ala is by avoiding His disobedience. When a person lives like this, then all his acts of worship are elevated no matter which action he performs.

The foundation of every act of worship is attaining the pleasure of Allah ta'ala.
What is disobedience To Allah ta'ala?
To fulfil what Allah ta'ala has ordered and abstain from what He has forbidden. The Quran has defined these things.

We should make a list of all those things which earn His displeasure and strive to abstain from them. Through this, Allah ta'ala becomes pleased.

The more knowledgeable we become, the more our burden is increased. This is because a person's awareness is increased, thus, his reckoning will be more severe.

One should not become a scholar to attain fame and titles. Rather, one becomes a scholar so that he can acquire knowledge in order to practice as much as he can and earn the pleasure of Allah ta'ala. Those who do not hold this intention are not considered scholars.

The waliAllah does not desire to earn the world and to be praised by others. He has one concern and that is to introduce the creation to Allah ta'ala. Allah ta'ala becomes responsible for his children, for their upbringing and for their provisions.

We should not attend the dhikr gatherings in order to become a Wali Allah. Similarly, we should not attend Darululooms with the intention of serving humanity. This is a wrong mind-set to have. Rather, we should intend to aquire knowledge for the sake of learning and implementing the Sunnah and to rectify one's self.

All actions are according to intentions and our intentions should be to please Allah ta'ala.
Whoever makes his objective the world and his intention is not to please Allah ta'ala, he doesn't practice the deen and desires worldly promotion, such a person merely desires recognition through his knowledge and titles. A person should instead seek the nearness of Allah ta'ala.

Through these gatherings, we must assess how close we drew to Allah ta'ala, how many sins we rejected and how much we learnt in order to practice the deen and please Allah ta'ala.

It is unfortunate that we have no other purpose besides acquiring the world and gaining benefit from it. We do not seek the pleasure of Allah ta'ala. We ensure not to miss or delay any worldly appointments and tasks. However, we do not display the same fervour when it comes to rising for prayers and implementing the laws of Allah ta'ala. We are lazy towards fulfilling His commands.

In reality, for a believer, there is nothing more valuable in his life than the instruction of Allah ta'ala. In fact, a person is considered an idolater for rejecting His orders. Our life should be sacrificed for the sake of implementing His orders and we should rise above any hurdles that come in the way. Allah ta'ala makes us practice this action during the days of Hajj.

A Muslim is he who attests His faith through the depths of his heart. This is how one becomes close to Allah ta'ala. Every thing we are occupied with in the world whilst forsaking prayers and opposing Allah ta'ala's orders, is considered forbidden for us. We shouldn't delay and miss our prayers for the sake of our worldly affairs, lest we will be questioned over our actions.

Despite reciting the Quran and acknowledging Allah ta'ala's praise and glory, we recognise Him, yet we disobey Him. Why is this?

We do not believe in Him in reality. We are not aware of his greatness and we are a hypocrite.

Allah ta'ala knows that we are prone to sin as He has created this quality within us to test us. Allah ta'ala instilled inclination within us and has given us the influence of Shaytan in the world. The duty of Shaytan is that he invites us towards the disobedience of Allah ta'ala and steers us away from Allah ta'ala.

One who is aware of Allah ta'ala, is connected to the Quran. No matter how low his deen is, he can never disobey Allah ta'ala.

مِن شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ

.."From the evil of the lurking whisperer." [114:4]

Shaytan instils evil temptations within us.

In Surah Naas, Allah ta'ala mentions three of His qualities. He is our God, our Lord and our owner. He has no partner. We are connected to Him through these qualities. The more we strengthen these connections, the more easy it becomes to please Allah ta'ala.

When a person breaks his relationship with Allah ta'ala, He decreases these three connections with Allah ta'ala.

Shaytan breaks the relationship of Lordship between a believer and His Lord. This is the first relationship he seeks to break. We should protect ourselves from Shaytan in this regard.

We should assess whether we truly believe Allah ta'ala to be our provider. Shaytan makes us believe that fraud, deceit and selling our deen will grant us earnings and fulfil our needs. This is how we break the relationship between us and Allah ta'ala.

The farmer takes care of the plant and crops and allows it to grow. Similarly, Allah ta'ala takes care of us and allows us to grow. He sustains us.
Allah ta'ala has prepared everything in the world to provide for us and our children. He grants us wealth and He fulfils our necessities. This is His promise.

We should not fall in to the trap of Shaytan otherwise, it will cause us to chase the world and we will lose the concern for the Hereafter.

When we have belief that Allah ta'ala is our Lord, He will grant us lawful sustenance with ease and He will provide for us.

Unfortunately, we fail to recognise Allah ta'ala as our Lord and our provider. We seek to earn from other people through unlawful means. This is what destroys our deen.

We should make promise to accept Allah ta'ala as our provider. We should not lie and sell Islam for the sake of earning the world. Rather, we should be content with whatever Allah ta'ala grants us. We should be occupied in pleasing Allah ta'ala through our actions.

The second relationship between man and Lord is attesting His Kinship.

A farmer nourishes the plants and he saves the plants from insects. Similarly, Allah ta'ala is our owner and He protects us. We should not seek protection from others by losing trust in Allah ta'ala.

An increase of wives, children and wealth is not a sign of prosperity. Rather, they are a source of disobedience and punishment.

The third relationship between us and Allah ta'ala is that we must worship Him and Him alone. Shaytan makes us complacent with our worship and invites us towards sin and acquiring wealth through unlawful means. Our desires incline us towards the world and this is through the waswaas of Shaytan.

الْخَنَّاسِ

Refers to constantly attacking. The way to remove Shaytan is by establishing these three connections with Allah ta'ala.

Shaytan lives in the heart of man. He strives to make man die upon disbelief. He makes him do acts of disbelief in the world. He enables fighting and quarrelling between husband and wife and relatives.
We have the power to protect ourselves from Shaytan. The cure to be protected from Shaytan’s whispers is to engage in dhikr. As soon we begin dhikr, Shaytan flees.

We should never abandon dhikr. If we wish to strengthen these three connections with Allah ta'ala and die upon Imaan, we must engage in abundant dhikr.

We should never be negligent from dhikr.
We should train our heart to focus upon Allah ta'ala. Thereafter, we can be occupied with our worldly affairs alongside.

If our heart is immersed in dhikr, it will keep us focused upon Allah ta'ala. This is an easy solution to practice the deen.

Many people consider dhikr to be an innovation although our deen and our faith is dependent upon dhikr.

We perform unlawful actions because our heart is free from dhikr. Our intention when performing dhikr should be to strengthen and purify our heart. If we have incorrect intentions, our dhikr will not bear the fruit and our knowledge will not grant us success. Only with correct intentions of protecting one's Imaan, one is granted success.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen
