Jewels of Ramadhan 2025 - Episode 28 - What is Hijrah in Ramadhan?
If we are grateful to Allah ta'ala for His favours, He will multiply them for us and increase those blessings for us.
Whenever we attain a treasure and we are grateful for it, Allah ta'ala raises our ranks. Let us not be lazy and waste time during these last few moments of Ramadan. Allah ta'ala has granted us Ramadan so that we can improve ourselves and save ourselves from Hellfire.
Hijrah, migration, is a great Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. It refers to transferring from one place to another place to abide therein. There are many conditions for this migration. Nabi ﷺ did not migrate for wealth or societal improvement, nor due to worldly inclinations. Rather, the true migration refers to migrating from one place to another for the sake of Allah ta'ala. For example, one finds it difficult to practice his deen in his locality. He makes a sacrifice for himself and his family and leaves behind his home and work so that he can abide elsewhere and practice Islam. Allah ta'ala gives a great reward for one who performs Hijrah in such a way.
Many of us migrate to other locations for personal gains and to improve our worldly living. We abandon Islamic environments to settle in other environments. When we migrate in such a way, we in fact, face more problems and difficulties in life.
Allah ta'ala has granted us a form of migration in Ramadan.
A sister came to the Prophet ﷺ and requested for advice. He ﷺ instructed her to perform Hijrah. She asked how to migrate and he ﷺ said that the greatest migration is to migrate from sins and to repent from them.
Similarly, we should shun the lifestyle of disobedience and migrate to a life of pleasing Allah ta'ala so we can attain permanent Paradise.
When a person regrets and repents, he becomes a Muhaajir. This is because he has shunned the materialistic world and he advances towards Allah ta'ala. His life transforms and he abandons all wrongdoing. He forgets his past life and he desires to sit in good company.
Now, all of us we will be migrating for the sake of Allah ta'ala to the different Khankah for the dhikr gatherings. The angels will write our name amongst the Muhaajir of Ramadan.
We should have an intention to travel for the sake of Allah ta'ala and there are many great rewards for this action.
When we attend a gathering, we must go with the intention of implementing and improving what is lacking within us. With this mind-set, we will leave the dhikr gathering illuminated.
Allah ta'ala is extremely displeased with the person who attends the gathering without any objective. This is because when Allah ta'ala Himself sends His slaves to pious gatherings. This is due to His great mercy, as he desires improvement for that person.
Allah ta'ala enables that person to attend the gatherings. Often, there are people who attend the dhikr gatherings without any interest or passion. This is because Allah ta'ala has sent him out of His wisdom and desires improvement from Him or desires to save him before he departs this world.
Allah ta'ala sends His slave to the pious company in order to be forgiven. Either a person attends the gatherings without a purpose and does not desire improvement, or a person attends the gathering and seeks forgiveness and becomes deserved of paradise.
The first condition of repentance is to acknowledge the mistake and be regretful. We should not justify our sins. A person who is sincere in his repentance, blames himself and not others. He acknowledges his sins and is remorseful. The second condition is to stop the sin and then promise to leave those sins.
If we end up repeating the sin afterwards and we repent from it, Allah ta'ala will forgive us again.
Allah ta'ala has enabled a system to protect us from Hellfire. When one repents at the hand of a Sheikh, then the Prophet ﷺ himself will pray for him. Allah ta'ala will protect him, reward him and admit him to Paradise. When we repent in such a way, we are in fact, displaying gratitude for these pious gatherings.
Whenever we commit a mistake, we should recite 'Astagfirullah' three times. As a result, our sin will be wiped away.
