"..But the everlasting good deeds are far better with your Lord in reward and in hope." [18:46]
The dhikr of Allah ta'ala will be maintained forever and it is a great action. The reward in terms of the Hereafter is excellent. This verse refers to those who engage in the dhikr of Allah ta'ala.
Hadhrat Umar رضي الله عنه states that Nabi ﷺ stated, that those who perform dhikr during this month are definitely forgiven.
Nabi ﷺ stated that one should perform four actions in abundance during this month.
1) Seek forgiveness from Allah ta'ala in abundance.
2) Perform abundant dhikr.
3) Perform good deeds in order to attain Paradise and supplicate to Allah ta'ala for Paradise through our good deeds.
4) Perform actions through which one will be safeguarded from Hellfire and also supplicate to Allah ta'ala for protection from Hellfire.
Allah ta'ala's mercy is constantly inviting us towards repentance during Ramadan. There are three conditions of repentance. A person should display regret over his sins. If he hasn't acknowledged his sins, a person is not able to repent to Allah ta'ala. The second condition of repentance, is to stop the sin which you have been committing. The third condition, is to promise to remain protecting yourself from sins in the future. When we make a promise, Allah ta'ala will assist us even if we happen to fall in to sin again.
When we fulfil these conditions, it refers to performing sincere repentance. We all make mistakes, so we should repent in such a way during Ramadan. If we abandon a sin during this month, we gain the reward of leaving a sin seventy times over. If a person repents in Ramadan, he has honoured Ramadan and has acquired the purpose of Ramadan.
We should not fear or hesitate to repent. If we repeat the sin, Allah ta'ala will forgive us again due to His mercy.
Nabi ﷺ instructed the companions to protect themselves from Hellfire. They asked him how they could achieve this and he ﷺ responded by saying, "By performing the dhikr of Allah ta'ala in abundance."
When we recite the Kalimaat of dhikr, they create a form and they float in the atmosphere. They accumulate in the skies. When we depart this world, these Kalimaat will surround us from all four sides in the grave and they will not allow any punishment to touch us.
The Dhaakireen are the people of intellect and have been praised in the Quran. They are those who remember Allah ta'ala whilst they are lying down, sitting and sleeping. They have learnt that the most beneficial action until the Hereafter is dhikr. In Paradise, the Dhaakireen will enter through a separate door.
We should make it a habit to perform dhikr. Whichever action we adopt in Ramadan and make a habit, it will be easy for us to continue it afterwards.
There is no action which will save us from the punishment of the grave more than the dhikr of Allah ta'ala.
The most important action is dhikr and the most easiest action to perform is dhikr. It is through this action that Allah ta'ala's love and nearness is acquired. Those who remember Allah ta'ala in abundance, have much love for Allah ta'ala as this act develops His love. As a result, those who love Allah ta'ala will obey His orders. This is a great method to adhere to.
We should learn the dhikr of the heart from the Sheikh and then our heart will continue to do dhikr in all circumstances.
