Bayan Episode 11 - Did You do Your Accounts in Ramadhan?

Guests are a form of mercy, so we should value guests. When guests eat at our homes, our sustenance is extended. Thus, we should be generous and feed our beloveds, our neighbours and the poor people, those we know and don't know. The needy will grant us prayers in exchange for our food. Whatever we desire to eat, we should feed others with.

The second portion of Ramadan is regarding accounts and reckoning. When Allah ta'ala reckons our deeds in the Hereafter, He will present a scale. The scale will have a tongue itself and will be able to speak. Our deeds and actions which are recorded will form an image.

We will be stood in front of Allah ta'ala with our limbs and organs scattered out in front of us. Each part will testify for or against us. The scale will speak and we will be helpless. We will not be able to make amends for our actions.
On our right side will be Paradise and Hellfire will be on our left. This is the time where we will regret not assessing ourselves during Ramadan.

We have been given Ramadan so during these opportunities we should assess ourselves and complete our accounts. The essence of Ramadan is during this middle phase where we self-assess. If we assess ourselves today, it will save us in the Hereafter where there is no one else to save us.

It is a matter of shame that some people from Muslim households do not know how to pray, although it is the important compulsory action after faith. We don't even ponder over deen as our ideologies have changed. We fail to assess ourselves and even during Ramadan.

During this month, we should assess how we are trying to please Allah ta'ala. Every second we must assess how we are spending it. Everything has a purpose. We should make our entire lives a part of deen. Every breath of ours should invite us towards our Creator just as our desires invite us to food.

Everyday, we should plan our schedule. For example, intend to invite someone to the dhikr gathering, help someone in distress, greet the Non-Muslims in a beautiful manner. This is great propagation of deen.

We should attend the dhikr gatherings with sincere intentions, lest our body parts testify against us in the Hereafter. We should correct ourselves now before we depart this world. We should remove the love of the world now so the fear of the real death may be eliminated. We should assign ourselves to Allah ta'ala now whilst we have a chance.

We should not seek worldly benefits from a deeni gathering, otherwise we are considered two faced individuals. If we have come to this gathering with incorrect intentions, we should repent now and purify our intentions. We should make a promise to attend the gatherings in order to benefit and implement whatever the Sheikh says. This is how our lives will be transformed.

We shouldn’t just pass through Ramadan and let it slip by. We must fulfil it's objective and that is to attain Taqwa, the fear of Allah ta'ala. Allah ta'ala has instilled the special feature of Taqwa within Ramadan. This is the biggest necessity for a human being and without Taqwa Paradise is empty. To enter Paradise we must have Taqwa. All other actions like Hajj and prayer are not the objectives themselves. They are all dependent upon Taqwa. These actions - prayer, reciting Quran, performing Hajj will not make one a Muttaqi. They will invite you towards Taqwa and they will have their own effects. However, the month of Ramadan is the solution and it makes a person a Muttaqi through our practice for thirty days.

The Prophets who came before us invited their people towards the same message. The nations before us are envious of us as Allah ta'ala took care of our souls and He allowed us to be born upon the Shahadah and from amongst the nation of the greatest Nabi ﷺ.

We are so fortunate to be present during this Ramadan whilst many passed away before the arrival of this month. We have not been given Ramadan to celebrate or allow it to simply pass by. Rather, we have come to earn Ramadan. We must fulfil its rights.

What is the definition of Taqwa?
A person who worships in abundance is not considered a Muttaqi. A Muttaqi is defined as a person who saves himself. He is someone who exercises caution by preserving himself. His worship is not contaminated through sins.

Such people who commit sins like fraud and they make false claims during this month, they cannot be Muslims and they are only deceiving themselves. Lying is the greatest sin and the punishment for lying is very severe. Many of us lie today to earn the world. Lying takes a person to shirk. For example, a person migrates to another land believing that Allah ta'ala will not provide for him in his homeland. He has no trust in Allah ta'ala and Shaytan makes him chase the unlawful and sign false documents. Such people dress with an Islamic dress code and perform worship, yet, they lie alongside.

It is shame that we seek prosperity, wealth and happiness through our lies when one cannot be a believer if he lies.

We take lying to be a minor action. We lie to earn and we end up consuming Haraam as a result. The repentance for this is to give our unlawful earnings in the path of Allah ta'ala.

Thus, we should ensure we perform self-assessment this Ramadan. If we fail to do so, we cannot guarantee we will live to witness the next Ramadan even if we are young. We cannot afford to wait for it and carry false hopes.

We should reflect over our actions. Why do consider that we will live a long life? Allah ta'ala desires purity and desires to purify us. Ramadan has come to purify us and we are purified through sincere repentance. If we do not self- analyse, we will not become pure. If we have broken someone's heart or consumed someone else's wealth, we must seek forgiveness in order for us to be purified. This is the message of Ramadan.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen
