Nabi ﷺ stated that he prefers to sit with those who engage in dhikr after Asr over the entire world and what it contains. What a great honour to be given such a gathering! This gathering is better than the whole world and what it contains so there must be many blessings and mercies of Allah ta'ala present.
The best actions to be performed during this month are dhikr in abundance and repentance. In a Hadith it is mentioned that those who engage in dhikr in Ramadan are forgiven.
The inhabitants of Paradise will receive everything they desire. However, there is a Hadith in Baihaqi shareef which mentions that the inhabitants of Paradise will regret nothing else besides the moments in which they did not remember Allah ta'ala in the world.
Sheikh ul Hadith sahib Rahmatullahi alayh mentions that they will regret it because when they witness heaps of reward given to the dhaakireen, they will regret those moments which they wasted and regretted not attaining a higher status.
We should not be heedless from dhikr for even a moment otherwise, we will regret it in the Hereafter.
Allah ta'ala has not stopped us from working or running our businesses or fulfilling our worldly affairs. He instructs us to remember Him always which means that it is possible for dhikr to be performed in every condition and situation. For prayers, we are required to leave what we are occupied with and attend the mosque five times a day. For Hajj, we are required to go once in our lifetime and we are required to fast only once a month for the month of Ramadan.
However, with regards to dhikr, Allah ta'ala states that we should engage in so much dhikr that not a second of our life should go to waste. Even when we are sleeping we should be remembering Allah ta'ala.
Allah ta'ala have given us this instruction of constant dhikr because it is possible! There is a high level reward for this worship of dhikr and we will see the benefits in the Hereafter. There are many rewards mentioned in the Ahadith regarding the virtues of dhikr.
Allah ta'ala desires to see us in the constant state of dhikr. All His creation remember Him at all times. He has created us as the most superior form of creation so how can it be that we fail to remember Him? In reality, dhikr should be the worship we perform the most in Ramadan.
How can we remain in the remembrance of Allah ta'ala constantly and in abundance? We shouldn’t stop our other deeds which we perform. Whatever we are doing whether it is deeni or worldly related, we should never be heedless of dhikr alongside, as we are still in need of dhikr.
The pious predecessors explain that one cannot perform abundant dhikr with the tongue as this is not possible when we are asleep. Hence, Allah ta'ala has created a system whereby our heart performs the dhikr of Allah ta'ala.
Nothing beats like the heart. The heart constantly beats and it constantly pumps blood to the body. We must remember Allah ta'ala in our hearts so that even when we are working or occupied in something or we are sleeping, our hearts are still occupied in dhikr.
When you focus upon your heart and make it alive with dhikr, then even if you are reciting Quran or propagating deen, your heart will still be in the state of remembrance alongside.
Thus, our duty is to make our heart alive. This act is referred to as Qalbi Dhikr, Muraqabah. This dhikr is seventy times greater in virtue and reward.
If we truly desire Paradise and we wish to be safe from regret, we must allow our hearts to remain occupied in His remembrance.
Allah ta'ala has enabled this by granting us spiritual physicians. Allah ta'ala creates an expert in every field of deen. Whichever subject of the deen or knowledge Allah ta'ala desired to propagate, He created those personalities to support that part of the deen. If those personalities did not pass in history, we would not have the deen today. Similarly, the AwliyahAllah are those who teach the dhikr.
We should visit a Sheikh and request to make our heart alive and learn dhikr from him. Allah ta'ala has given them the capacity to prescribe dhikr for us and grant us lessons which will revive our hearts. Thereafter, our dhikr will never cease.
Ramadan has come so that we may refresh our mission of life for we do not know whether we will live to see another Ramadan. We should make our hearts alive now and do whatever hard work it takes for this.
There are many benefits of dhikr. The biggest benefit is that it will not allow our heart to become impure. Moreover, it saves a person from evil temptations and greed of the world.
Greed of the world is such a thing whereby it makes a person compromise his deen.
Due to our greed, we see the Hereafter as insignificant and we chase the world. However, dhikr has a quality whereby it allows a person to live with a balance - engaging in dhikr whilst earning with one's hands, without abandoning his worldly responsibilities alongside.
Mashãikh that have passed earned a living with their own hands throughout their entire life. They didn’t give up the world completely. They worked hard in the world alongside engaging in dhikr. They weren't greedy for the world, rather, they were greedy for the Hereafter. This is the effect of the dhaakir.
We should try to become a dhaakir and visit a WaliAllah. Allah ta'ala will question why we did not make this effort. Allah ta'ala has created a cleanser for everything and the cleanser of the heart is dhikr, so we must take this opportunity to learn dhikr. Sisters should also seek to learn dhikr as dhikr is necessary for both men and women. Sisters may learn dhikr via the phone. Their hearts will become alive and their homes will become illuminated. We must initiate this action during Ramadan.
The greatest form of dhikr is Muraaqabah. If you are tired, sit to a side and engage in Muraqabah for five minutes and you'll feel fresh.
Our desires prevent us from engaging in dhikr and we feel that in doing so, we will lose out in the world. In reality, the greatest action which will save us from the punishment of the grave is the dhikr of Allah ta'ala.
When the dhikr gatherings take place, the angels surround it from all sides. Mercy begins descending from the heavens and Allah ta'ala instils a special peace in the hearts of the attendees. As soon as the gathering is over, Allah ta'ala announces forgiveness for the attendees and He is proud of them amongst His angels.
We should make a sacrifice and attend these great gatherings during this month! If we miss it, it reflects in our weak faith.
We should not waste these opportunities. Three gatherings take place during Ramadan. Imagine Allah ta'ala being proud of you three times a day!
Ramadan is simply a few days so we should work hard in order to attend the dhikr gatherings.
It is by His grace and generosity that He has allowed us to partake in these gatherings otherwise, we do not have the ability. If we do not attend these gatherings, it is very unfortunate and Allah ta'ala will be displeased with us.
We should at least sit for five or ten minutes. If we become sleepy then perhaps rise and leave but do not ignore otherwise that is totally incorrect.
