What is the Biggest Obstacle in the Path of Allah?
One who acknowledges that he will depart from this world, will do what pleases Allah ta'ala and he eliminates those obstacles which restrict him from Allah ta'ala's nearness. This should be our constant concern so that we can reach our destination easier. If we have this concern and we work hard upon travelling to Allah ta'ala, He will assist us and makes this journey easy for us. He will eliminate the hurdles. Such a person who does not try, will always struggle.
The pious predecessors have established gatherings every Thursday night through which we may contemplate over the hurdles which come between us and attaining Allah ta'ala's nearness.
What are the obstacles which prevent us from Allah ta'ala?
Allah ta'ala instilled the attraction of the world within us such as children, business and trade and it is our base desires which strengthen this attraction. Our duty is to return to Allah ta'ala without chasing these attractions. We must live in this world but protect ourselves alongside. We must develop the love for Allah ta'ala and His Nabi ﷺ. Whoever achieves this is the successful one.
We should not perform actions for anyone else besides Allah ta'ala as this is the greatest disease one can possess. We should assess what occupies our mind during the day. If we hold great concern and regard for the world and it is always on our mind, then it means we possess love for the world over Allah ta'ala.
Our target is to have no other thought in our heart besides Allah ta'ala. One who possesses love of the world in his heart, his worship is defective because his mind is constantly focused upon the worldly attractions or he is simply focused upon his worldly problems. He may fulfil his prayers, but in reality his prayer has not been established properly.
Thus, one who is immersed in the world and its attractions cannot be successful and it will soon overwhelm him.
The real test in this world is to only harbour the love for Allah ta'ala in our hearts. This love should overwhelm all other forms of love and it should be our target of life.
Unfortunately, our worldly affairs lead us towards neglect and laziness. We are intoxicated by love for the world. This is what distracts our worship and causes us to forget the target of life and subsequently, forget Allah ta'ala.
Love for the world causes us to run around like animals in the world. We claim to be believers, yet, we trust in other things to grant us what we desire.
In reality, we should assign everything to Allah ta'ala and rely upon Him solely. We should not worry about our sustenance because Allah ta'ala is our carer and protector.
A successful believer is he who is safe from Hellfire and is admitted to Paradise. One cannot be safe from Hellfire with sins attached to him. He must purify himself if he desires Paradise.
Only if Allah ta'ala alone is present in one's heart throughout his life, will he be able to depart this world with the dhikr of Allah ta'ala upon his tongue.
To assess our condition we must reflect over what we ponder over during the day. What thoughts and concerns do we harbour? We should be connected to Allah ta'ala and have concern about pleasing Him. This is the true concern.
The first condition of becoming a WaliAllah is that a person holds no other thought besides Allah ta'ala in his heart. When a person holds the love for Allah ta'ala, it overcomes everything else. Such a person turns to Allah ta'ala in happiness and in sorrow and at the time of need. Allah ta'ala tests us to assess whether we turn to Him throughout the ups and downs in our life. Allah ta'ala is our protector so we should turn to Him for assistance first.
Unfortunately, we rely upon people and we fail to have trust in Allah ta'ala. We have betrayed and forgotten Allah ta'ala for the sake of our blood relatives even if they forget us in return. Occasionally, the world itself rejects us and this is a difficult lesson through which Allah ta'ala teaches us.
We sell our faith for the sake of the world, yet, we do not become close to Allah ta'ala through those things. We should have trust in Him and seek help only from Him.
It we wish to become close to Allah ta'ala, our hearts should be purified from everything else besides Him. We should destroy the love for the world from our heart and develop the love for Allah ta'ala within.

"Successful indeed are the believers." [23:1]
The most unique physical worship is prayer and it is that action which grants success. Those who do not pray will be destroyed. We must pray at a Masjid because the soul is connected to prayer and prayer is connected to the Masjid.
When the call to prayer occurs, the entire creation turns their attention towards this call. It is a shame that we abandon prayer in congregation without a valid excuse. To ignore the call to prayer is the cause of destruction for a person.
الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي صَلاتِهِمْ خاشِعُونَ
"Those who humble themselves in prayer." [23:2]
That prayer in which there is concentration and focus is where success lies. We must improve our prayers. We must pray such a prayer whereby we are not reflecting over anything else besides Allah ta'ala. The reason we have worldly thoughts during prayer is because we have love for the world within our hearts.
A person prays physically but in reality, the spirituality of prayer impacts the heart of a believer and refreshes his soul. This type of prayer is what pleases Allah ta'ala.
We worship but we do not seek to attain peace and contentment. Worship is accepted due to the peace of the heart and that is when one worships with only Allah ta'ala occupying his heart and mind. We should worship in such a way whereby our body and soul are both submitting to Allah ta'ala.
Tazkiyah is what grants us success. Every knowledge of Islam is dependant upon Tazkiyah. Alongside knowledge, we must have purity and sincerity. We must expel the worldly things from our heart and have love for none besides Allah ta'ala as the love for the world which is embedded in our heart is what destroys our worship.
The most important factor in worship is to seek Allah ta'ala's nearness, love and pleasure. With this objection and intention, a person receives light from his worship. He will not benefit if he has any other objective.
The pious predecessors say that when a person sits for Muraqabah with no other objective besides seeking Allah ta'ala, then he becomes more positive and he accomplishes.
Even when fulfilling the rights of our family and society, we should seek to fulfil them for the sake of Allah ta'ala.
Purifying the heart is the first and most important action as the success of life is based upon one's heart. If the heart is pure, then our life will be full of goodness and blessings and focused towards the love for Allah ta'ala. Thereafter, one will act for His sake.
We should eradicate sins from our heart through dhikr because dhikr rids us of impurities. Whenever we find the love of the world is becoming embedded in our heart, we should begin performing Muraqabah in abundance. Allah ta'ala's name will replace the love for the world. We will gain peace and contentment and our worries and distress will be removed whether or not we gain worldly success.
We should sit in Muraqabah with ease without timing how long we sit. We should perform it at a time where we are free such as early morning Tahajjud time. We should perform dhikr with the intention of attaining His nearness and pleasure. We should strive to extract all other forms of love from our heart and we may only achieve this through dhikr.
We must have certainty in His rewards and we should practice blindly. When we perform Muraqabah in gathering we should hold belief that we are gaining forgiveness, salvation and Allah ta'ala's pleasure through it.
Allah ta'ala has announced forgiveness for the one who sits in the company of a waliAllah. Thus, we should flee to these gatherings and not waste time. Through this, we will attain ease in this world and in the Hereafter.
The most foolish person is he who seeks for ease and comfort in this world. In reality, the more he chases the world, the more he will face problems as he is seeking something the world cannot offer.
May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen
