Doctors and physicians are best suited to provide medications based on a patients symptoms. This is the treatment for physical sicknesses. Without treatment a person may even die.
Similarly, a human being also has internal sicknesses and symptoms which have an immediate impact on a person. The intellectual people recognise the effects of their internal sicknesses, however, most of us fail to pay attention to them.
When Allah ta'ala mentions a sick heart in the Quran, it refers to the heart connected to a person's soul, not his body.
Physically sicknesses are determined by physical bodily symptoms. Similarly, the hypocrite is recognised by his symptoms of hiding his sins from people without having fear of Allah ta'ala. He tries to please the people and not Allah ta'ala. He doesn't admit his internal sicknesses and he mocks and discourages others who practice Islam. The hypocrite will be given the worse status in the Hereafter.
We should assess whether we have these symptoms within us to determine whether we are true believers. Allah ta'ala does not wish that we return to him with abundant worship. Rather, He wishes that we return to Him with a pure heart.
The one who abstains from sins due to the fear of Allah ta'ala will be given two Paradises. This is because he is a pure person and he has no hypocrisy.
Our prayers won't benefit us if we are hypocrites. A person who lies, becomes angry, is jealous and steals, it is due to him being spiritually sick. Similarly, if he possesses love for the world within him, it is a disease.
We disregard the sins we commit and suppress them by engaging in worship, like Hajj and Umrah. In reality, performing Umrah won't cover up the punishment that is due upon us for lying.
We spend much money and are very concerned over preventing physical sicknesses although we will all die one day. When we are sick, we rush to seek treatment, however, after we die, the physical sickness will be lifted and it will no longer grant us loss. A person exits this world with his body, not with his sicknesses. The death certificate is issued to show that the person is free from all sicknesses.
If we acknowledged our spiritual sicknesses in the same way as our physical, we would take the cure.
We should visit a Sheikh for the sake of rectification and to remove internal sicknesses as these diseases are very dangerous. The worldly sicknesses end at the grave, however, the impact of the spiritual sicknesses become apparent from the grave.
The punishment of the grave is given to a person due to his sins and spiritual sicknesses which he did not eliminate during his time in the world.
We see the symptoms our of sins, yet, we suppress them and run away from them because they grant us worldly benefit. We think there is no loss attached to them so we die with them. We should worry about eliminating these sicknesses so that we won't be punished permanently due to them in the grave.
We should be desperate to remove our sins. We are bound to become spiritually sick due to the tactics of Shaytan, just as we are bound to become sick in this world due to germs. Thus, we must make a promise to protect ourselves from these sicknesses.
The grave will either become a pit from Hellfire or a portion of Paradise for the one who remained purifying himself from inner sicknesses. He identified the sins and then eliminated them whilst he was in the world.
The person who tries to hides his sins will be the most disrespected and degraded person in this world and the Hereafter. Elevation and respect is not achieved through lineage or wealth. Rather, respect and honour is only achieved in the Hereafter due to a persons level of Taqwa.
Those who demand respect and status in society are spiritually sick and they are the worst people. We should request Allah ta'ala to lower us in the eyes of others and in return, Allah ta'ala will increase our respect.
The purpose of bay'ah is not to become a Saint, rather, it is to abstain from sins and be rectified. We should confess our sins and accept ourselves as patients. The daily sheets we fill out are for our spiritual enhancement. If we are doubtful whether we have sinned, we should still mark a cross on the sheets to avoid committing fraud with Allah ta'ala.
Those who admit that they are sinners adopt the cure. The ones who don't are in big deception. Allah ta'ala accepts our efforts of trying to eliminate the sin even if we get crosses. It does not mean that we are failures.
It's is unfortunate that we enter the Masjid but we wear the clothes of those who oppose Allah ta'ala and we prefer their lifestyle. We harbour love for those who oppose the deen. This is severe hypocrisy.
Those Muslims who criticise the beard and abandon the Sunnah, do so because they do not like the Sunnah. They may not mention it openly but it is reflected in their abandonment of the Sunnah. If they truly loved and respected the Sunnah, they'd embrace it.
We should aim to become a spiritually healthy person who is a true lover of the Prophet ﷺ and one who implements the Sunnah without hesitation and proof.
When one adopts the Sunnah and eradicates his sins during his life time, his grave welcomes him, widens for him and the breeze and fragrance of Paradise enter his grave after he passes away.
Those people who sit with the pious people will never leave deprived from this world. Allah ta'ala has prepared the cure for us via the company of the Awliyah Allah. We should visit these great spiritual physicians to have our internal sicknesses removed.
Whenever Allah ta'ala desired to improve the conduct of a nation, he sent Messengers with books. Some Prophets came without books, but with the same objective. Allah ta'ala never sent a book down without a Messenger, although Prophets were sent without books.
This shows that it is essential to keep a teacher as a guide and adopting their company physically is necessary. Until Qiyamah, Allah ta'ala will remain sending the guides who are the deputies of the Prophets. If we adopt their company, we will be guided and our character and conduct will be improved.
If we don't have this mission in our life, we are drowned in deception and are destroying our life. We should find a Wali Allah with the intention of improving ourselves and take bay'ah from him. He will guide you to remove your defects and sins. This is how to rectify yourself according to Quran and Ahadith.
If someone has the correct intention to seek a Sheikh and he departs this word in his quest, he will die as a high level believer because he understood the message and he tried to seek the straight path.
The straight path is to rectify yourself in the company of a Sheikh every day and night. Acknowledge your sins and be ashamed of them.
His company is the most important solution to eradicate the sins. The more he attains his teachers company, the more he becomes closer to the teacher and the more the teachers qualities rub off on to him and his diseases are eliminated.
There are three types of fayz received from the Sheikh's company.
1) In'akaasi faiz:
The sincere student receives light in his heart. He is detached from the world and is hopeful of leaving sins. This faiz is temporary and is restricted to the period of the student being in the Sheikh's company.
2) In'akaasi alqahi - this is an extended and prolonged level of In'akaasi faiz compared to the first type. The student gains a slightly higher level of attention from his Sheikh. He enjoys the Sheikh's company and when he departs, the student feels strong for some time.
3) Itihãdi faiz - the highest grade of blessings where the students level of faith is maintained. The person who attains this and receives the attention of his Sheikh regularly, the strength of his faith never diminishes and he becomes like the teacher.
These faiz/ blessings are preserved and safeguarded by preventing ourselves from sinning. This is how our emotions will remain constant.
No action can eradicate the sins and rectify a person besides learning dhikr from the Sheikh and holding on to his company. We should request Allah ta'ala for a Sheikh who is close to us so that we may benefit. If we sit in his company with sincerity, we will never be deprived.
Nabi ﷺ said to Abu Razin, "Shall I not tell you an action through which your deen will become strong and you will reach the heights of goodness in both worlds?"
Nabi ﷺ prescribed two actions. To hold firmly to the company of the pious - (the authentic Sheikh who remind one of Allah ta'ala), and to engage in abundant remembrance of Allah ta'ala in solitude.
Nabi ﷺ guarantees that if we spend time in the company of the Sheikh, our deen will become solid and we will be protected from hypocrisy.
