Nabi ﷺ mentioned that we should keep our tongues moist with the dhikr of Allah ta'ala as it will be beneficial for us in the Hereafter. If we practice upon this, we will die upon faith. We should be so occupied in dhikr that even whilst we are sleeping we should be remembering Allah ta'ala.
When a person dies in the state of dhikr, he has died with the highest form of faith. Allah ta'ala wants us to take heed from those who are dying in front of us. We lack awareness because we fail to believe that we will die. We accept but we have no certainty that death can occur at anytime. We should be alert and we should hold sincere believe that we will soon depart this world.
In reality, everyone will pass away, whether young or old, healthy or sick. Negligence and ignorance is what prevents us from preparing for our death. Allah ta'ala wishes us to overcome this ignorance and prepare for our Hereafter.
The heart is of two types. The soft heart and the hard heart. The heart which is hardened is rusty and will not accept any orders from Allah ta'ala. Such a person makes excuses not to obey. He rejects due to his hard heartedness and he considers implementing the Sunnah to be difficult.
The person who is ashamed to imitate the Sunnah cannot be a true believer. One cannot expect intercession from the Prophet ﷺ if he fail to adopt the ways of the Sunnah, rather, he will be punished for rejecting the Sunnah.
Allah ta'ala revealed the truth to us via the Quran, yet our lives do not reflect the message of the Quran. Allah ta'ala gave us the Quran after giving us belief so that we may spend our life according to the Quran and acquire Allah ta'ala's pleasure and Paradise through it.
Allah ta'ala has dictated the lawful and unlawful within the Quran and made it a means of guidance for us.
In the Hereafter, we will not be questioned whether we memorised the Quran or recited it continuously. Rather, Allah ta'ala will question whether we implemented the laws of Quran as this is the objective of the Quran.
We should do whatever it takes to refrain from whatever Allah ta'ala has declared unlawful. This is Allah ta'ala's demand upon us. We may face the attacks of Shaytan and our Nafs, however we must remain steadfast.
The love of the world is the greatest factor which prevents a person from upholding the laws of Allah ta'ala. Due to this love, a person's life becomes destroyed. He becomes anxious and depressed. He will face all types of problems, yet he will bear the hardships of the world whilst disobeying Allah ta'ala. This is because his heart is hard.
He bears the similitude of one who is very sick and shrieks for help, yet he fails to take the cure. Similarly, today we are drowned in severity and difficulties, yet we fail to take up the cure. Allah ta'ala guarantees that if we take hold of the Quran and the Sunnah, He will grant us Paradise.
We are extremely intellectual and advanced when it comes to technology and worldly things, yet, this knowledge which we give our lives for, will not benefit us in the grave.
We may possess intellect, yet we do not have the consciousness that we are committing wrong. This is because our hearts are hard. The cure is to wake up from our slumber and make our hearts soft.
Allah ta'ala sent us to this world only for a short duration. If we sleep through it, how will we earn wealth? Similarly, how will we earn Paradise if we are wasting our life in this world.
To remove laziness and negligence, we must practice the true deen by softening our hearts so that the words of Allah ta'ala can penetrate.
When the heart is softened, Allah ta'ala's shower of mercy will rain upon the heart in the form of the Quran and it will embed in the heart. The heart is like the earth and the flowers of Allah ta'ala's recognition will grow within. The roots of the flower will become strong and it will grow to the heights of the heavens.
When a person recites the Kalimah, the heavens begins to shake around that person and it does not cease until the person stops reciting the Kalimah.
"Has the time not yet come for believers’ hearts to be humbled at the remembrance of Allah and what has been revealed of the truth.." [57:16]
Allah ta'ala has prepared for our hearts to become softened via the action of His dhikr. If the heart does not become soft via dhikr, a person cannot understand the Quran. If a person cannot understand the Quran, he cannot implement the Quran and if he fails to implement, he cannot enter Paradise. Thus, dhikr of Allah ta'ala will save us.
Allah ta'ala has prepared a solution for the heart to engage in dhikr. When we engage in Qalbi dhikr, our hearts become soft. We become inclined towards the Quran and we become friends with Allah ta'ala. Through this dhikr, we recognise Allah ta'ala and the love of the world is removed from our hearts.
The cure certainly lies in dhikr, however, dhikr performed correctly is what causes one to implement the Quran and the Sunnah. It causes one's heart to become soft and absorbs all the laws of Allah ta'ala. This is the impact of dhikr whereby it takes a person to true success. We should become habitual in dhikr that even at the time of death, we are engaging in dhikr.
It should be known that true achievement does not lie in abundant dhikr. Rather, it lies in following the Quran and Sunnah via ones effort of dhikr. As a result, one begins observing purdah or keeping a beard regardless of his or her environmental factors. He becomes distanced from wrong as his heart has been developed and improved. Instead, it takes him towards understanding and implementing the Quran.
The love of the world and love for Allah ta'ala are two opposite things and cannot be mixed in one heart.
Whoever possesses love for the world and amasses worldly things, he is a loser and he cannot succeed.
If a person's love for the world is increased despite him being regular in dhikr, his dhikr is considered futile because his intention was incorrect and everything is based upon his intention. The blame does not lie within dhikr as one only benefits when his intention is correct. Dhikr is definitely the solution but we must have the intention of becoming improved via our dhikr, otherwise our hearts will never become tender.
Similarly, the one who recites the Quran with intention to be guided and improved, he will be rectified and he will gain a high status through his recitation. In such a way, the Quran prepares a person for success.
The world will continue to amass within ones heart without the correct intention. Whenever one desires to take the true benefit from an action, he must have the correct intention. This way, he will definitely aquire the benefit of that action.
For example, we should travel to Makkah Shareef with the intention of acquiring Allah ta'ala's nearness and not merely for the sake of visiting Makkah Shareef.
Allah ta'ala will grant whatever we seek. When we have certainty in Allah ta'ala, then Allah ta'ala immediately grants us our needs.
Death is arriving to us so we should soften our hearts in order to become distanced from the world and have the love for the deen developed within us. By adopting this method, we will accept whatever Allah ta'ala has destined for us and we will accept the unlawful as unlawful. We will recognise Allah ta'ala and in such a manner, we will gain success in this world.
We should engage in dhikr and improve our heart. Thus, the deen will enter our heart automatically. Dhikr is what grants us the nearness to Allah ta'ala.
We should visit the Wali Allah and request them to teach us dhikr. They will make our hearts alive through dhikr and in such a way, we will receive a beautiful death.
A person who has anger and pride within him, has a hard heart. He should attach himself to the wali Allah and learn dhikr until his heart becomes soft. Through dhikr, a sincere desire to implement the Sunnah will develop and fear and shame will be removed.
