Why Don't Our Deeds Affect Us?

Being occupied in this world makes a person negligent and lazy towards fulfilling his purpose of life and it distances a person from it. Our purpose of attending these gatherings is to revise our real purpose of life. Through this intention and determination, Allah ta'ala assists such a person in his pursuit.

The benefit of making this sole intention is that Allah ta'ala will reward you completely and He will show you the straight path. When a person treads the right path, he is given everything.

Our purpose of life is to attain Allah ta'ala's pleasure and His nearness. In order to achieve this, we have been given the capability to engage in good deeds. Allah ta'ala has no need for our good deeds. Rather, good deeds are for our own benefit through which we may attain the purpose of life. Good deeds will automatically grant us rewards. Thus, we should focus on our objective of attaining Allah ta'ala's pleasure and nearness through our deeds.

Through how many of our deeds have we successfully attained our purpose?

Those who have truly attained Allah ta'ala's nearness, have a unique style and mannerism. We should be concerned that we are practicing, yet failing to attain our objective. This shows that there is something lacking in our actions.

In Hadith Qudsi, Allah ta'ala mentions that He is with His servants and His treasures are vast. Furthermore, every good action will draw a person closer to Him.

Allah ta'ala never lacks in what He grants, however, He grants the seeker according to his desire, intention, sincerity and style of request. There is nothing lacking in what Allah ta'ala delivered to us through deeds. Worship was sent with full impact and intensity and they undoubtedly take a person towards Allah ta'ala's nearness.

In reality, there is something lacking within our intentions and our sincerity and request. We fail to perform deeds with the thirst of attaining His nearness and pleasure. Our sincerity is not complete as it is contaminated with our desire to attain worldly gain. Due to this contamination, our actions are made weak.

Allah ta'ala is not concerned with how lengthy our sujood are. The real assessment is of our purity and sincerity. According to that, we are given a result for our actions.

Whoever performs a good deed solely for Allah ta'ala, he attains Allah ta'ala's nearness immediately. We should correct our intentions before we perform a good deed so that we are only performing it to please Allah ta'ala and draw nearer to Him and not for any worldly purpose.

When an action is performed for the sake of the world, it becomes a waste.

Whenever a person undertakes a good action, Shaytan tries his best to prevent him from performing it using evil temptations and whispers. We should be cautious of his whispers and stand firm in front of him. If we are firm, we will overpower him and become successful.

We fail to perform the Sunnah actions because we consider them to be voluntary and not compulsory. This is a great deception from Shaytan. If we wish to attain Allah ta'ala's nearness, we must imitate the Sunnah, although this is what we find most difficult today.

Wealth and love of the world are our weakness. This is why Shaytan tempts us with it. We are prepared to sacrifice anything for the sake of the world and we discard the principles of deen for the sake of the world. We pray, but we sin alongside. Shaytan contaminates our deed in such a way, that through them we cannot attain Allah ta'ala's pleasure and nearness. In this manner, Shaytan removes the soul from our good deeds.

We should not consider ourselves perfect by looking towards the miracles and dreams which Shaytan presents to us. Rather, we should assess whether our deeds are performed according to the Shariah and the Sunnah, otherwise it is a form of fitna for us.

Today, we sell our deen and our worldly decisions are not based upon deen. We have no concern of improving our deen. Shaytan has various ways of tricking us, even through our good deeds. He makes us sin even whilst we perform the good deeds. Unfortunately, we are also prepared to sacrifice anything for money. We should never beg for money from others. Rather, we should earn with our hands. In reality, Shaytan invites us towards wrongdoing and then makes us wretched when we respond to the invitation.

When a person pursues a good deed with sincere intentions, he is given the capacity to overcome Shaytan as he is given power by Allah ta'ala.

In Hadith Qudsi, Allah ta'ala says, "If He comes to Me with sincerity, I become close to Him and when he remembers me, I am with him." When we remember Allah ta'ala in our heart, He also remembers us in His heart. If we remember Him in a gathering, then Allah ta'ala remembers us in a better gathering than ours.

Allah ta'ala desires all His creation to become near to Him. To achieve this objective, He has granted us the dhikr of Allah ta'ala. Whoever understands this point and implements it in his life, he becomes a Wali Allah and he experiences enjoyment in his life.

The reason we do not receive enjoyment from our dhikr is because we lack purity in our actions. If our connection with the teacher is incorrect and weak, then how can we expect blessings from Allah ta'ala? How will dhikr impact us? If we are not sincere with our teacher, then how will we be sincere with Allah ta'ala.

Whoever causes even a small amount of pain to his teacher, has given pain to Allah ta'ala and His Prophet ﷺ and he will never attain blessings. He cannot become close to Allah ta'ala and His Prophet ﷺ.

The Awliyah Allah are the means through which we may attain Allah ta'ala's nearness. If we do not display sincerity to these resources, how can we expect to become close to Allah ta'ala? If we fail to have love and belief in the teacher and an improper relationship, then how will we benefit? Even if we perform dhikr alongside this weak relationship, there's no benefit.

Shaytan makes a student distance from his teacher by embedding evil whispers in his mind. Those students who engage in dhikr properly will definitely receive the benefits of dhikr and achieve Allah ta'ala's nearness and pleasure through it.

Dhikr grants a person His nearness and pleasure. This is why the Awliyah Allah adopted dhikr and regularly established the dhikr gatherings. If we attend these Gatherings with pure intentions, we will never leave empty handed. The reason we do not succeed is because we attend for the sake of the world. This is why we fail in the world.

We work hard but our hard work is wasted. We should not contaminate our deen and our hereafter through material gain. It's not difficult to worship without worldly contamination, as Allah ta'ala's instructions are not difficult. If we strive and we try, He will make it easy.

If are intentions are not sincere, then our actions will not be accepted in the court of Allah ta'ala. Thus, we should correct our intentions and ask Allah ta'ala for sincerity.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen
