A believer should never feel hopeless because Allah ta'ala never leaves him in loss. This glory of Allah ta'ala has been demonstrated in Ramadan.
Allah ta'ala has divided Ramadan into three parts in order to distribute goodness. The first ten days, are the days of mercy which we are passing through. The second is forgiveness and the third portion is freedom from Hellfire.
Why did Allah ta'ala begin Ramadan with the days of Mercy?
One would think that Allah ta'ala would've prioritised the pious people and descended His mercy upon them first, but in reality Allah ta'ala focused His attention upon the sinners who were destined for Hellfire and the weak people who have lost hope. He distributes the goodness to them. Amongst them were such people who would swear against Allah ta'ala and challenge Him. Despite that, Allah ta'ala does not wish for them to fail.
When a person loses hope, he begins to complain against Allah ta'ala as he is despondent. Allah ta'ala knows that such a person is heading towards Hellfire despite being a believer and from amongst the ummah of the Prophet ﷺ. Thus, to assist him, He gave him Ramadan.
Shaytan inclines and inspires a person towards sin and once a person sins, he encourages the person to sin repeatedly, to the extent that a person becomes hopeless over his sinning and then continues to sin. Thereafter, a person becomes bold over his sins. He takes drugs and intoxicants and oppresses himself. He is inflicting loss upon himself and this is because Shaytan has made him hopeless.
Every sin is Allah ta'ala's disobedience and takes a person to Hellfire. No sin is considered insignificant and in the Hereafter, a person must be purified from his sins through entering Hellfire.
Shaytan does not allow a person to recognise his sin. Music and singing gives enjoyment to people, but it is Shaytan's magic which began from him. Nabi ﷺ came to erase this sin and he announced great punishments for those who listen to music and use musical instruments.
Unfortunately, today, we do not even consider music to be a sin and we expose our children to it too. We claim that we are compelled to listen. This mind-set takes a person to Hellfire because he is assisting Shaytan with his sin. Allah ta'ala's anger and punishment descends upon him because this sin is something which Nabi ﷺ openly prohibited.
We were commanded to avoid short weighing, avoid lying, avoid committing fraud and avoid breaching the truth, yet, we have no awareness. We say that we are compelled to commit these sins.
Allah ta'ala knows each of our positions and our defects. Ramadan is a sign of Allah ta'ala's brilliance, as this month does not leave anyone empty handed or hopeless. This is Allah ta'ala's greatness being demonstrated via Ramadan. Allah ta'ala allowed His mercy to splash on the sinful people, causing everyone to be happy.
The pious people make a proper schedule for Ramadan, but the sinners are hopeless, so they consider Ramadan to be difficult. Allah ta'ala shows mercy to them first.
Allah ta'ala has full control, so if He desires, He can turn everyone in to a Muslim. However, this world is a test and we must live according to the system and principles in order to earn Paradise. It is not the case that Allah ta'ala cannot remove our sins and bring the sinners to goodness. Allah ta'ala is capable of doing everything, but this world is a place of action and we have been given freedom to do as we please.
For this reason, many sin and become bold over their sins as they believe that they are safe from Allah ta'ala's seizure and punishment.
A sinful person believes that he will not face the consequences of his actions and is consistent upon sins. When a person reaches this dark state, he begins challenging Allah ta'ala openly. However, Allah ta'ala assists the believers who have recited the Kalimah.
The mercy of Allah ta'ala has a unique glory and it is descended upon the heart of a sinner. During Ramadan, Allah ta'ala has mercy upon those sinners who have lost hope and in this condition, Allah ta'ala revives these people and enables them to fast. Such people who one could not even imagine, begin to fast. They would curse and complain against Allah ta'ala, yet, now they are fasting. This is a direct reflection of Allah ta'ala's mercy in the first ten day which awakens a person. In reality, these ten days have come to save us.
After forming a connection of love with Allah ta'ala, the sinner begins to fast on Friday. Eventually, he begins coming to the mosque and joins those who perform eight rakat Taraweeh.
There is a wisdom behind everything which Allah ta'ala has ordained. We ourselves do not dare to perform eight rakat instead of twenty and it is a matter which we dispute over. In reality, those who are new to performing Taraweeh, should not be put down for performing eight, as there was a time where they would not even perform two. We should look towards the glory of Allah ta'ala, instead of rebuking those who perform eight.
It is due to Allah ta'ala's mercy that they have been enabled to perform eight rakat at least. We should remain quiet on this matter instead of issuing Fatawah, as this is Allah ta'ala's wisdom which is descending. We should continue to perform twenty ourselves and do not bother those who perform eight.
Allah ta'ala enabled such individuals to perform eight rakat after they would not perform any at all. Thus, Allah ta'ala can also enable them to perform twenty instead of eight. If he is praying at home, then Allah ta'ala will enable him to pray at mosque too. Allah ta'ala has placed him upon the path and will help him to advance. We should have patience with them, as Allah ta'ala definitely helps such people.
We all started somewhere and we weren't born pious. If we can be rectified through Allah ta'ala's mercy, can they not be rectified too? We should be reminded that none of us were improved through advice or Tafseer. We have only been improved through Allah ta'ala's mercy.
Allah ta'ala's focus and concern is upon the sinful people rather than the Muttaqeen. Allah ta'ala cares for them, so He revives them. The righteous people stare at them, mock them for their sins and take out their faults. Allah ta'ala hates this deed and such a person's consequence will be very severe.
We should never belittle others or mock them over their sins. Perhaps, we may become worse than them tomorrow. We should not even mock a disbeliever, because tomorrow we may become a disbeliever and enter Hellfire and he may become a believer with a higher rank. The game of life is still being played out, so with what confidence do we think we are better and through which worship? We have no idea how we will spend the rest of our life, so we should always remain worried about tomorrow.
The pious people weep despite living their lives very cautiously. They do not have confidence in their worship, rather, they are concerned whether their worship is accepted. They worry about their Imaan at the time of their death. The pious people have recognised Allah ta'ala's glory and power and have fear of Allah ta'ala in their hearts.
The Sufiyyah work hard to attain Allah ta'ala's nearness, which is why they have developed concern for their hereafter. They remain worried over their state and beg Allah ta'ala to save them from Hellfire. Even whilst worshipping, they remain worried about their end.
We should have fear of Allah ta'ala within our heart, whilst anticipating His Mercy. We should never become complacent with our deeds and our achievements. Rather, we should worry about how we will be saved in the Hereafter.
When we are trapped in a sin, such as consuming interest and we find no solution, we shouldn’t claim that we are compelled to sin, because such a statement will not save us from Hellfire. We shouldn’t justify the sin or make excuses. Rather, we should seek Allah ta'ala's mercy so that He may assist, as the only thing which will save us from Hellfire is Allah ta'ala's Mercy.
Hadhrat Mawlana Rumi رحمة الله عليه says that when an individual is stuck in a problem, he should remember the event of Hadhrat Yusuf عليه السلام, as Allah ta'ala made him an example for us.
The doors were locked when he was trapped and Zulaykha had the keys yet, he still ran. Every door he ran to, was opened for him. This teaches us a lesson not to be hopeless. Rather, we should run to Allah ta'ala and seek His mercy as we are not able to save ourselves from sin.
We complain that we are compelled to sin, however, Allah ta'ala has installed an inner power within us to revive our capacity by calling out to His mercy. Allah ta'ala can definitely protect us from all examples of wrongdoing. It is us who call out to Hellfire.
When we are stuck in sin, we must imitate Hadhrat Yusuf عليه السلام and flee from the sin. When a person is trapped in a sin and he calls out to Allah ta'ala for help, then Allah ta'ala generates within him the capacity of Hadhrat Yusuf عليه السلام. Such a person is given the light and magnificence of Allah ta'ala and Allah ta'ala assists him and he is protected from sin.
The screech of the sinner from the depths of his heart, is very beloved to Allah ta'ala. Allah ta'ala is always here to help him and this lesson was given to us by Hadhrat Yusuf عليه السلام.
This wasn't a miracle of Hadhrat Yusuf عليه السلام and it wasn't due to him being a Prophet. In fact, it was due to him invoking the mercy of Allah ta'ala that he was saved in this situation.
When we fall into a sin, we shouldn't fear. We should call out to Allah ta'ala and do not lose hope over our sin, nor should we help our self in sin.
Allah ta'ala informs us of these stories to demonstrate His wisdom. The Messengers were samples for us and role models. Hadhrat Adam عليه السلام was sent out of paradise and this was part of Allah ta'ala's wisdom. We cannot determine whether it was a punishment or a mistake. It was an event which Allah ta'ala wanted to demonstrate to us and remind us that when we sin, we shouldn't lose hope - Allah ta'ala will forgive us.
May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen
