When a shopkeeper wants to sell a product, he tries his best to sell it for a good price. He prepares and polishes the product. In this manner, the value and price of the product will increase.
When a piece of wood is lying around, it holds no value. When it is cleaned and carved in to furniture, it's value is increased.
When something is rectified and improved, it's value increases. Thus, rectification is a very great thing.
Before Islam, there was ignorance amongst the people. They would commit crimes. They would bury their daughters alive. When they wanted to worship, they'd perform tawaf naked. The women would dance and drink alcohol and write poems. When Nabi ﷺ was sent, then these same people turned in to very great companions with great titles. This is the achievement of the reformer and the teacher.
We learn that when a person is rectified, his value increases and it is like he is purchased by Allah ta'ala. Those who are reformed are great individuals. They are like the stars in the night and their manners are at a high level.
Without rectification, society becomes corrupted and the habits of the people become like animals. Their days and nights are spent in the love of the world and they are overwhelmed by the world.
In reality, the corruption and evil of all the previous nations have been collected in this nation today. All the punishments they received are all present today. This is because there is no rectification. Society faced progression during those eras in which there was rectification. This practice has finished today, so this era is now spoilt.
It is mentioned in a Hadith in Tirmidhi Shareef that the sign of Allah ta'ala love for a person, is that He places him in poverty, distress and hardship. This is because, Allah ta'ala doesn't desire for his beloved slave to become immersed in this wasteful world. He doesn't want this world to destroy him and eliminate him. Allah ta'ala saves him from the world just like a sick person is prevented from water.
In this generation, we are concerned regarding our worldly matters but not our Hereafter. If we wish to be protected from the punishments of the Hereafter, then we must rectify ourselves.
A person thinks he will be respected when he purchases big houses and great cars. He wants progression of his desires whether it is deen or worldly related. He wants others to consider him high in status and recognition. However, Allah ta'ala draws nearest to the person who has the most taqwa. We want people to honour us in the world, but this fame and honour is temporary, whereas Allah ta'ala grants us permanent respect.
How do we rectify ourselves?
Allah ta'ala has granted us the Quran which contains the method of rectification and Allah ta'ala has prepares the resources for our rectification. We seek different commentaries of the Quran whilst there are some people who even struggle to recite the Quran. What is better, it to seek the easiest commentary from the Quran because only the Quran carries the method of rectification for everyone.
We focus on our recitation, but in reality, the benefit and objective of the Quran goes beyond Tajweed and explanation of the Quran.
This Tafseer holds complete reformation for the human being. This Tafseer is written by Allah ta'ala Himself and the name of that Tafseer is the life of the Prophet ﷺ. No one can compare with this Tafseer.
Hadhrat Aishah رضي الله عنها says that the Prophet ﷺ is the walking talking Quran. He is the greatest explanation of the Quran and this is undisputed. There are no quarrels or debates over this explanation. We do not require to words or speech to study this Tafseer. Rather, all we need to do is imitate the Prophet ﷺ. In this way, even the most illiterate person can study this Tafseer. Now if anyone implements his lifestyle, he earns Paradise.
Whoever imitates the Prophet ﷺ has recited the Quran in the best of manners and has studied the Quran in the most excellent way. With every action he imitates, he receives the reward of a hundred martyrs.
If we embrace this Tafseer without argument and quarrel, we'd all become lovers of the Prophet ﷺ. We'd have the same lifestyle as him and we would hold beloved what he ﷺ held beloved. This is how a person will become rectified.
"O believers! You are accountable only for yourselves." [5:105]
We should reflect upon ourselves and this is the way to improve ourselves. Nowadays we have a habit of gossiping and concerning ourselves about others. We sit together and discuss the defects of others which is totally wrong.
Allah ta'ala desires that we should worry about ourselves. When we take the defects out of others, we are not granting them any loss at all. If they are deviated, we should explain to them in a nice manner and advise them well. We shouldn't gossip about them. Thereafter, if he doesn’t rectify himself, it is no longer our concern. His deviation will also not grant you any loss. Here, Allah ta'ala says that it is better that you consider your own guidance and rectification.
إِلَى اللَّهِ مَرْجِعُكُمْ جَمِيعًا
..."To Allah you will all return." [5:105]
We will all be returned to Allah ta'ala and Allah ta'ala will decide for Himself if this person was right or wrong. Therefore, it is better than we have concern over ourselves instead of wasting time on others.
We should spend ten or fifteen minutes reflecting over ourselves and our actions. We should assess our defects and how much we are immersed in this world. Then we should make dua to Allah ta'ala to protect us. We should do this for forty days every night and this will help to improve us.
Such a person will then be praised but he will no longer like the praise. He will no longer desire the praise of others. He will not consider himself worthy of appreciation and praise, yet people will run after him in praise.
When a person is rectified, Allah ta'ala has mercy upon him. He will see the good in others and praise them whilst demoting himself. He becomes a great human being.
This was the character of the Prophet ﷺ which he taught to the companions and they became great individuals. When you create a concern within yourself and assess your actions, you become improved within, as your defects become apparent. You then develops a desire for Paradise and a dislike for Hellfire. These are the status of the Awliyah Allah. Great worship doesn't make a person a Wali. When he develops these qualities and has good manners, then he becomes a Wali Allah.
If you are patient upon calamities, then Allah ta'ala increases your status. You learn these things in the company of a Wali, and you should visit him solely for the love of Allah and to eradicate the love for the world.
This world is a testing ground. If we pass this test, we will receive a greater destination. otherwise we have lost. We should make dua to Allah ta'ala to save us from holding the world in our heart.
We fail to imitate the ways of the Prophet ﷺ but we argue over technical points of deen and knowledge and think that we will be forgiven. We will be punished for arguing over his lifestyle. By arguing and causing division, we have forgotten the true deen.
To rectify ourselves in this dangerous era is the biggest reformation. The biggest achievement is to be guided ourselves and this is what we should worry about. The simple formula is to ponder over our own defects. Bring the message of the Quran to your heart otherwise wretchedness will appear in your life due to your actions.
The biggest punishment from Allah ta'ala is having the love of the world embedded in the heart and the biggest reward of love is that Allah ta'ala extracts the love of the world from a person's heart. When the love for the world is removed from the heart, the love for Allah ta'ala will replace it for sure. You don't need no litany or prescription to achieve this. And if your intention is correct in the company of the Awliyah, you also receive this quality.
May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement. Ameen

Subhanallah, look forward to another Naat Sharif by our respected and beloved Huzoor
