The Saying of Hadhrat Ali (ra)
The foundation of our Deen is based upon our certainty. The more a person's certainty is strong, the more his Deen becomes strong. We make many excuses for our disobedience towards Allah ta'ala, but in reality, it is due to our weak certainty.
Hadhrat Bahauddin Naqshband رحمة الله عليه mentions that if a person's certainty is strengthened, he becomes a complete person.
A person's certainty is realised through his outward actions. For example, if a person has belief in the Quran, he would act upon it. Thus, if we fail to practice according to the Quran, it means that we do not have belief in the Quran.
The blessed Sahabah exemplified solid certainty in the Prophet ﷺ. They never heard a statement from him without implementing it. Today we read many Ahadith but we fail to implement because we don't have strong belief in the Prophet's ﷺ statements.
If we practiced upon the statements of Nabi ﷺ, then all the disputes and quarrels would end.
A person questioned Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه saying, "There used to be righteous and pious children within our homes but slowly they are reducing now. What is the reason for this?" Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه responded saying, "It is due to the lack of Dhikr today that the children have become misguided." That individual then asked, "How should Dhikr take place?" Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه responded, "You should perform so much Dhikr that people consider you crazy."
If we implement this, the problems within our household would become solved and the state of our youth would become improved. They would become lovers of the Sunnah and they would implement the Shariah.
The more a person engages in Dhikr, the more he will improve. This is why our pious predecessors encourage us to engage in Dhikr so that we can rectify ourselves and attain what is lacking within us.
In order to be rectified, we must possess belief in this cure instead of abandoning this practice after a week of noticing no benefit. We shouldn't abandon Dhikr until we die. We must have strong certainty that that our success of this world and the Hereafter is due to the Dhikr of Allah ta'ala. If we had this strong certainty in Dhikr, we would never be too busy for Dhikr and we would never abandon it.
We learn that if we want to save ourselves and our family, then we should grab hold of Dhikr with firmness. We should teach Dhikr to our children and bring them to the Gatherings of Dhikr. We should sit with those who engage in Dhikr because one never leaves empty handed from such a blessed Gathering. Our objective is to please Allah and this is achieved through these Gatherings of Dhikr!
The cure is in Allah's Dhikr. If you want to remove the defects from within you, then take hold of the Dhikr of Allah ta'ala. If you want to protect your eyes and be safe from backbiting, then engage in Dhikr and Allah ta'ala will rectify you. To learn Dhikr, visit a Sheikh who can teach you and guide you on how to perform Dhikr. Dhikr will only benefit a person when he visits the spiritual physician whom Allah ta'ala selected and gave permission to teach Dhikr. This is because he was given the permission so that he can benefit the human society.
One can only find peace and contentment through Dhikr, whether he senses it or not. This is why we shouldn't abandon Dhikr at all costs because sometimes Allah ta'ala delays in giving the cure in order to test a person's level of belief in Him.
Even if you do not become cured whilst being steadfast upon Dhikr, you will still receive the rank of martyrdom in Paradise. This is because you had solid belief in Allah ta'ala. Certainty does not mean that you demand all the results in this world, rather, Allah ta'ala elevates the ranks of the person who holds solid belief in Him despite what he receives.
Our Deen is certainty and patience. If Allah ta'ala doesn't grant you something you desired in this world, it means that what you were seeking wasn't appropriate for you. Allah ta'ala has reserved it for you and due to your certainty in Him, He will grant you it in the Hereafter. Only those who hold certainty in Dhikr, are given benefit from their Dhikr.
A person develops certainty by visiting the Awliyah Allah. A person should have solid certainty in his teacher. If he doesn't have certainty that he will attain Deen and success through his teacher, he wont attain anything.
If you connect yourself with a teacher and then soon abandon him for another teacher, you will become lost and won't attain success. But if you stick to one teacher, eventually you'll gain success, although it may be with delay.
Shaytan deviates a person from Islam but our strong belief in the message of the Prophets is what saves us. When we have strong belief, we become a complete and developed believer.
Hahdrat Aishah رضي الله عنها once saw her father looking attentively at Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه and she questioned him regarding this act. He responded, " To speak about Ali and to see his face, is worship, so how can I turn my face from him."
Once Hadhrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه and Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه were present together and Hadhrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه was staring at Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه attentively. When Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه questioned him about his staring, he responded and said, "A person will never enter Paradise until he has the stamp of approval by Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه." Then Hadhrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه lowered his head and Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه began looking at him in the same way. Hadhrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه questioned him. He responded saying, "You didn't complete the statement from the Prophet ﷺ. Once I heard him say, 'A person cannot enter Paradise until he has love for Abu Bakr in his heart.'"
May Allah ta'ala grant us the ability to implement.
