Nabi ﷺ said, "When you pass by the meadows of Paradise, graze as you like.” They said, “What are the meadows of Paradise?” The Prophet ﷺ said, “Circles of remembrance.” [Tirmidhi]
Dhikr is the food for the soul because the soul is connected to the heavens and the body is connected to the Earth. Just like Allah ta'ala has prepared resources for the body to be nourished from the Earth, similarly, He has prepared the Dhikr Kalimaat for us. When these Kalimaat are recited, then the soul of the human being develops energy and nourishment. This is why the pious predecessors say that the Dhikr of Allah ta'ala is the greatest method to attain His nearness.
We should perform Dhikr in abundance according to the guidelines of our teacher. What can be a greater blessing than a person who is occupied in his worldly affairs, but he is also drawing nearer to Allah ta'ala at the same time.
The Dhikr of Allah is very valuable. There is a hadith in Mishkat Shareef which mentions, "Recite 'Laa ilaaha illallah', and you'll enter Paradise."
Hadhrat Mujaddid Alf Thani Rahmatullahi alayh states, "Imagine how much power this Kalimah has, that if a person recites it once despite being a great sinner, he will enter Paradise. By reciting this Kalimah, Allah ta'ala distributes blessings to the entire Universe, and even then, the blessings do not diminish.
No one can comprehend the blessing of this Kalimah. If this Kalimah is recited once, Allah ta'ala may forgive the entire Mankind through it!
Thus, one can only imagine how powerful our souls become when we engage in Dhikr.
We should be very grateful to Allah ta'ala for allowing us to perform Dhikr and practice Tazkiyah in the company of a Sheikh, particularly in this day and age where there is a lot of evil present.
If we perform Dhikr ourselves, we can also encourage our children to sit in Dhikr and this will help us to be safe from the evil and corruption of this era.
The filthiest generation will be the generation of Dajjaal and this era has already began. The signs have already arrived. When the noble Sahabah heard about Dajjaal, they became very fearful despite having strong Imaan.
Today we have no concern nor fear. To protect ourselves, Nabi ﷺ has prepared the resource of Dhikr. Whoever performs Dhikr, will be saved from the evil and corruption of Dajjaal. We should perform Dhikr ourselves and invite our friends to partake in the Dhikr Gatherings too.
There is no better way to spend one's time, than to spend it in Allah ta'ala's Remembrance. It is through His Grace that He has sat us here and has enabled us to remember Him. May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement.
