What is the Biggest Deed for the Last Asharah?

A person's elevation and promotion are not based on his worship, rather, it is based on his faith and certainty. The more a person's faith is strengthened, the more closer he gets to Allah ta'ala.

The Awliyah Allah teach you to work hard through their tasks and commands. This is where students often slip and lose out. The purpose of going to a Wali Allah, is so a person can be rectified and improved. The Sheikh can prescribe you with no additional worship or he can prescribe you with no dhikr, but instruct you to complete the compulsory acts. This is also Mujãhadah (effort) for a person. To summarise, there are different styles and stages of reformation. Certain students are rectified in some ways and others, in another way. Thus, we shouldn't compare ourselves to others. Instead, we should accept our personal tasks and remain steadfast upon it. This is because the objective isn't the method, rather the objective is Allah ta'ala. One person may attain Allah in one way, and another, in other ways.

Mujãhadah is to be steadfast and regular on something your Sheikh has instructed you to do. Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه was prescribed a certain dhikr by Nabi ﷺ and him and his wife were steadfast upon it. All success came from this prescription. He mentions that he fought big battles and worked hard, and some nights were very severe, yet, he didn't forsake the prescription of his teacher.

The teacher requests you to do certain actions, so that your faith is strengthened and your love for Allah ta'ala is increased. The most important factor to attain Allah's nearness, is the hard work performed in the company of a teacher. Therefore, one must remain steadfast upon his task.

A person's faith is assessed through every worship he performs. Thereafter, he is given the reward of that worship. Allah ta'ala orders His slaves to supplicate to Him after every worship. Allah ta'ala then assesses our faith in Him by seeing if we ask from Him, following our worship.

3 doors are opened up for the one who supplicates to Allah ta'ala. The doors of Allah's mercy are opened, all the doors of paradise are opened and the doors of acceptance are opened for him.

We usually pray and avoid supplicating to Allah ta'ala because our belief is so weak. If we had certainty, then we would weep and we would present our needs to Him. Possessing faith, means to have firm conviction that Allah ta'ala will accept your supplication without any doubts.

The sign of an accepted supplication is that Allah ta'ala creates the means for your needs to be fulfilled. Allah ta'ala instils the method in your minds.

A pious person said, Allah ta'ala only raises the hands of those He wishes to bestow and He gives according to a person's level of certainty.

We often raise our hands with the belief that Allah ta'ala knows everything, so, we do not need to request anything. However, in reality, Allah ta'ala loves it when we request from Him as it strengthens our belief in Him as our Creator.

This is why the Sheikh makes the student work hard. Tasawwuf is to develop the belief that we have a Lord. Whoever has strong faith that Allah ta'ala is present, will definitely obey Him. He believes that Allah ta'ala grants sustenance, He grants wellbeing, He is aware of all our matters. Therefore, if we are not even asking Him, what kind of faith do we have?

Dua is the root of all worship and Nabi ﷺ taught us many supplications so that we may constantly turn to Allah ta'ala. Without Dua, our prayer has no life in it. We complain that we pray, but nothing is happening for us, yet, we fail to supplicate to Allah ta'ala and seek His protection from future calamities.

Hadhrat Dr Abdul Hayy Aarifi رحمة الله عليه advised that one should supplicate to Allah ta'ala even before drinking water, so that the water doesn't get stuck in his throat. He should pray for it to pass nicely and allow the stomach to digest it. Water is in the control of Allah ta'ala and if He wishes, He may grant us sickness or infection through it. If we supplicate to Allah ta'ala prior to drinking, it may become cure for the body, instead of becoming the cause of sickness for us.

Hadhrat Bishr Al Haafi رحمة الله was a great Wali Allah and the Sheikh of his time. Once Nabi ﷺ met him and said, "You have become most excellent from the Awliyah Allah. This is because you love and serve the pious people. Allah ta'ala loved this action of yours, so He made you most excellent."

Two people may be inflicted with the same sickness. One may be cured through it and the other may die from it. The first person used his sickness to attain Allah's nearness. He turned to Him through supplication. He began giving in charity because Allah ta'ala loves charity. He began worshipping and devoted himself to the service of the pious people. He began doing everything which pleases Allah ta'ala in order to become cured. When we are stuck in a sickness or a calamity, we should also make a list of all the things which Allah ta'ala likes.

Nabi ﷺ stated that, nothing can change what is written in one's destiny, besides Dua. The most authentic means to get closer to Allah ta'ala, is via supplication. We complain and rely on others and become tired of asking, because we are weak in Imaan. If a person has strong belief in Allah ta'ala, then he will most definitely ask from Him. Allah ta'ala even heard the prayer of Shaytan, so we should remain hopeful in Allah ta'ala and know that He will grant us.

Allah ta'ala enables us to rise and pray, but when it comes to the time of asking from Him, we leave the opportunity. How strange!

The most generous person will eventually become tired of you asking from him, But Allah ta'ala becomes upset if you do not constantly ask from Him. Thus, whenever you have a problem, immediately make Dua to Allah ta'ala with complete conviction, for it is impossible that you seek Allah ta'ala and He does not grant you. Allah ta'ala always accepts the Dua, once the belief is strong.

Sometimes we ask a thing from Allah ta'ala. but Allah ta'ala knows that it won't suit us. Rather, it will become the cause of worries and depression in our lives. This becomes a test for us. We should be reminded that Allah ta'ala accepts our supplications, even though we may not see it. Our supplications are immediately accepted, but if they do not suit us in the world, then Allah ta'ala either removes a difficulty for us in this world instead, or He grants it to us in the Hereafter. Only those who have conviction will be given those things, so it depends on the strength of one's faith.

The path to attain Allah's protection, is the connection with Allah ta'ala via supplication. Dua is the weapon of a believer. We are attacked because we don't utilise this weapon. Always seek Allah ta'ala's refuge when leaving the home. "Oh Allah protect me and make my journey easy. Remove any hurdles from me."

A person's hope increases when he believes that Allah's assistance is with him. In reality, one may connect with Allah ta'ala and supplicate to Him in all states. There is no pre-condition for supplicating, except having a strong connection with Allah ta'ala.

This is the Asharah of Dua. Ask Allah immensely. Allah ta'ala has defined to us the method of supplicating. We should ask Allah ta'ala for Paradise and seek refuge from Hellfire. In this manner, we will be granted everything. When we ask for Paradise, then Allah ta'ala grants us the means, the practice and the path to attain it. You will begin praying, you will begin doing dhikr and you will attain the company of the great Sheikh. This is because all these things take a person to Paradise. This is the entire prescription to reach Allah ta'ala.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement.
