Who Obtains Layla-tul-Qadr?

We have entered the last Asharah of Ramadan, which is the soul of Ramadan. The entire essence of Ramadan is kept within this Asharah and the soul of this Asharah is within the nights of Layla-tul-Qadr. The rewards of Ramadan are kept in this Asharah.

Some pious scholars say that the entire last ten nights are all considered Layla-tul-Qadr and Allah ta'ala bestows to a person depending on how he spent and prepared the first two Asharah.

The hadith mentions that there are 2 conditions of attaining Layla-tul-Qadr. The first is, possessing Imaan based on certainty. Our deen is based on how much faith we have in Allah. This is called Yaqeen. A person with strong faith turns to Allah in every situation, adversity and prosperity. He does not become afraid and take a backward step.

Those with strong Imaan consider all these nights as Layla-tul-Qadr. They don't delay in asking. They know that Allah ta'ala will grant them the best whether they ask Him or not. They understand that there is goodness in everything which Allah ta'ala has given to them.

A man came to Nabi ﷺ and said, "Oh Nabi of Allah, I'm depressed, and my tasks are not being completed, what shall I do?" Nabi ﷺ replied, "Whoever doesn't have this, doesn't have goodness in his life." This is because, when Allah ta'ala loves a person, He gives him challenges and trials as He wishes to raise his status to a high level.

Whoever has certainty that is it from Allah ta'ala, does not complain to Allah ta'ala over his decree. He won't consider Allah ta'ala's decision as a problem. This is a sign of a believer. The condition of being elevated is that one must have firm conviction in Allah ta'ala. He should always turn to Allah ta'ala and have trust in Him.

Wealth and riches are goodness of the world but it not the criteria for goodness in Islam. Goodness is for he who has strengthened his Imaan.

Our pious predecessors make us work hard so that we can develop and increase our certainty in Allah ta'ala. A person who has strong faith considers the laws of Allah ta'ala to be easy. He knows that the one who loves him, won't place him in difficulty, nor will He pester him. When he is placed in calamity, he turns to Allah ta'ala even more because He know that Allah loves him.

Allah ta'ala desires to reward us during these nights. If you want to attain Layla-tul-Qadr, there are 2 conditions. One should have solid faith in Allah and a sincere intention. Our intention is what causes our deeds to become accepted and if our intentions are corrupt and insincere, then we won't get the reward for our deeds.

We shouldn’t engage in worship for secondary reasons and our intentions should not be contaminated. They should be performed solely for the sake of Allah. We tend to engage in as much worship as we can because we want to be rewarded for it, however, Allah ta'ala does not reward a person based on the quantity of his worship. Rather, Allah ta'ala uses a scale to weigh our deeds not a calculator, so we must make our deeds weigh heavy with sincerity.

Everyone who is working hard in Ramadan will succeed and will not fail on his journey, but those who deviate from the path, will not be successful.

If we want to attain Layla-tul-Qadr, then we should make our hearts pure and content. Similarly, if we want rewards in the Hereafter through our deeds, then we must work hard on our hearts and make it pure and clean. A person should strive lifelong for this purpose.

The first means to attain Allah ta'ala is the company of the Sheikh. If you have this, then this is the greatest blessing for a person.

Hadhrat sahib wrote a letter to me and instructed me to read this letter to my students. In the final statement, my Hadhrat sahib stated, "Consider Farooqui sahib's company as a great treasure from Allah ta'ala. Do not waste his company as I have completely prepared him and sent him to you. Whatever he is taken from me, you will definitely attain from him."

When you obey your Sheikh's instructions, it doesn’t mean you are worshipping him. You're not submitting to him and accepting him, rather this path of rectification is going right back to Allah ta'ala. Thus, whoever accepts the teacher, will be given a peaceful heart.

If you're thankful for your blessings, then you will not receive worldly gains, rather, you will be given the Hereafter and you'll travel on this journey until paradise.

Hadhrat Abu Laith Samarqandi رحمة الله عليه defined a "pure heart" as the one whose physical body implements the commands of Allah ta'ala and his tongue is remembering Allah ta'ala constantly.

If you're engaging in dhikr, but your body is not obeying Allah ta'ala and vice versa, then that is hypocrisy, not success. If you're doing both, then Allah ta'ala announces forgiveness for your previous sins and grants you paradise.

What is this forgiveness?
The pious elders have said that this is the announcement of Allah ta'ala's pleasure upon a person. And if Allah ta'ala is pleased with someone, then his future sins are also eliminated. If he is ever tempted by sin in the future through Shaytan and nafs, then Allah ta'ala's Mercy will come and protect him. This is how Allah ta'ala saves a person.

Whatever you are doing in life and whichever worship you are engaging in, keep the dhikr of Allah in parallel with your life. If you think that you're not succeeding or you feel despondent over your situation, then consider it to be from the whispers of Shaytan. You might be sick, or your age may be advancing and you feel left out, or you may not be successful in your tasks and your prayers might not be answered, but in reality, you are successful regardless, because Allah ta'ala has placed goodness behind your sickness and calamities.

We should make ourselves such, that we recognise Allah ta'ala's love behind all the issues we face in life. We often become sad over our issues but if we connect ourselves with Allah and recognise his love, then we would consider our tests as rewards through which our ranks are being elevated.

We should take hold of the path of dhikr, purify the heart and crush the desires. Tread this journey and you will begin to find success in all your actions. Consider this gathering as a big treasure from Allah ta'ala.

May Allah ta'ala grant us the blessings of this Ramadan and all the goodness for which Ramadan was given to us.
