The Importance of Dhikrullah in Ramadan

The purpose of Ramadan is to attain Allah ta'ala's pleasure and earn Paradise and Allah ta'ala has made this easy for us by multiplying our rewards many fold.

There are 2 types of dhikr. One is the dhikr of the tongue which you count and the other is the dhikr of the heart. There is a big difference in the two. The dhikr of the heart gives a person 70 times more reward. This dhikr is learnt from a teacher. Through this dhikr a persons heart becomes alive and he is always in the state of dhikr. Thereafter, Allah ta'ala also remembers this person.

The benefit of learning this dhikr is that one may be occupied with any action or any other worship, but his heart is still occupied in Allah ta'ala's remembrance and he can not be considered a negligent person.

There are great ranks and rewards in the Hereafter for the one who does dhikr, such that
Allah ta'ala is proud amongst His angels over those who remember Him. Thus, we should make an conscious effort to focus on our heart and learn this dhikr during Ramadan especially. If we receive such a great blessing in Ramadan, we will be included amongst the Dhaakireen.

There are 2 beloved times to Allah. One is after Fajr and one is after Asr until Magrib. Allah ta'ala Himself has selected a worship for these moments and has announced it in the entire Quran. We should partake in dhikr. morning and evening, without being occupied in any other action.

Whoever sits in dhikr from fajr until sunrise and then prays 2 rak'ah nafil, he receives the reward of one Hajj and Umrah. And if he does this in Ramadan, he receives the reward of 70 Hajj and umrah. And if we multiply that by the 30 days of Ramadan then imagine how much reward one may attain! You don't need any ticket or passport, all you need to do is crush your desires, forsake your sleep and you will be guaranteed all of this reward.

This is the month of earning. Whatever was lacking from us in the rest of the year, Allah ta'ala fulfils it for us in Ramadan by giving us extra rewards so we may attain the highest ranks and Jannah. Therefore, we must not attempt to take shortcuts in this month. We must not pray and then scarper. Rather, we should try our utmost best in this month.

Hadhrat Aishah رضي الله عنها says, "with the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet ﷺ used to tighten his loin cloth (lunghi) and used to pray all night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers." [Bukhari]

A person who abandons dhikr is in great loss. Hadhrat Umar رضي الله عنه states that, 'whoever does dhikr in Ramadan is forgiven." This is a guarantee that we will be forgiven! So we should implement the action which is beloved to Allah ta'ala instead of selecting our own worship out of our own choices.

Ramadan was given to us so we can train ourselves to eat less and sleep less. Yet, instead we focus more on these things. We overeat at suhoor so that we won't feel the hunger, even if that means falling sick due to overeating, and we look for any opportunity to sleep even if it means reducing our prayers. We should fight our tiredness because even if we are sleepy, our dhikr will still be accepted from us.

These dhikr gatherings are so great that Nabi ﷺ himself said that he also desires to sit in these gatherings. Allah ta'ala announces His forgiveness for the person who partakes in it. One who does not believe in this, lacks certainty.

The situation will be very severe on the plains of resurrection but a selected group of people will be seated on thrones and their faces will be shining like the moon. Mankind will be shocked and wonder who they are and Allah ta'ala will say that "these are the people who would remember Me." This is the beauty of dhikr.

It is a great deprivation for a person to be without the dhikr of Allah in Ramadan. Make a firm intention that as long as you have strength, and you are mobile, you will push yourself to attend these gatherings because Ramadan may not come again. When Allah ta'ala causes you to become sick in Ramadan, then it is a test for you to see if you will persevere.

If your illness is severe and you are bedbound, then you will still get the entire reward based on your intention. Allah ta'ala rewards a person according to his intention and not his action. If you were prepared to partake in the dhikr gathering, but you suddenly faced a hindrance and wasn't able to attend, then you are still granted the complete reward because you intended to go.

Whoever loves Allah ta'ala's Remembrance, it is a sign that he loves Allah ta'ala. And whoever loves Allah ta'ala, then Allah ta'ala loves him too.
It is a great action that we leave our houses and shops to attend the gatherings of Allah's dhikr. Is this not love for Allah ta'ala? So don't look towards sins for Allah ta'ala Mercy seeks excuses and opportunities to forgive. We shouldn't be lazy in this month, because if we are lazy in this month, we will be deprived.

Nowadays we are restricted for time so we should do those actions which are beloved to Allah ta'ala in this month and perform them according to their status and glory.

Allah ta'ala prepares the resources for those actions He desires us to perform. For example He has structured the Masaajid so that we are enabled to pray. He allowed the Quran to be printed so that we can recite it. Similarly, Allah ta'ala wanted people to remember Him in the heart so He sent us someone great to teach us this dhikr.

Learn the dhikr of the heart from the Sheikh who teaches dhikr. This is their selected profession by Allah. If you are sick and a doctor comes to you and you refuse medicine, then that is being arrogant. Similarly, hadith are present so we shouldn't look at our own opinions. We should strive to please Allah and learn dhikr of the heart whilst we have the opportunity.

We should be doing the most dhikr in Ramadan and not a second of ours should be negligent from dhikr in this month. There is no effort in doing the dhikr of the heart. Allah ta'ala has made this dhikr easy because Allah ta'ala's love is attained the most via this action. You don't need to use your hands nor count your tasbeeh, you only need to close your eyes and focus on your heart.

The kalimaat we recite are very powerful. When a person begins to recite لا حول ولا قوة الا بالله, then the pillar beneath the Arsh begins to shake in enjoyment and the angels begin swaying. Allah ta'ala has kept 99 percent cure in this kalimah.

Become lovers of Allah ta'ala, abandon your sleep, engage in dhikr after Fajr and Allah ta'ala will place blessings in your day.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement.
