The Harm of Negligence in Ramadhan

Allah ta'ala loves good deeds, therefore, every good deed takes a person closer to Allah. There are no standard or requirements that the deed needs to be big or small. There is no quantity or limit. Even if you offer somebody water, or you smile at someone, or you forgive someone's mistake, they are all considered good deeds. If someone does a good deed before he passes away, he becomes closer to Allah ta'ala.

Not everyone is able to remain awake at night. Not everyone is able to pray Tahajjud. Some are preoccupied, some are suffering from an illness or are distressed due to something, so they find it difficult to earn good deeds. Therefore, Allah grants such people the opportunity to earn good deeds through other innumerable ways.

We often waste the opportunities for good deeds due to our negligence and considering them to be insignificant. If we knew how much reward we were getting for good deeds and its importance, we would never abandon them.

A person who abandons good deeds is a negligent person. He is ignorant as he doesn't know that a small action will allow him to attain Allah's closeness.

One learns the value of good deeds in the unique environment of the Khankah where you find love and affection for one another. This is why the company of a Sheikh is very great as it removes a person from negligence and ignorance and grants him the awareness to do more.

In Hadith it mentions that a person will reach Paradise but he will regret that he didn't do more in this world. This is a punishment in paradise. Regret is something which causes distress and pain. For example, you wanted to do something but you didn’t due to your laziness, so it causes you to regret later. "If only I had done this, it would've been better." We often feel regret over worldly matters but we fail to regret over matters related to the deen.
We will only regret the loss of wasted opportunities to earn good when we reach Paradise and realise that we could have attained a higher status in Paradise. "I discarded many palaces whilst I had the capacity and resources in the world to achieve such and such rank."

Today many of us are sat here with health and strength but how many extra good deeds are we earning in Ramadan? It's not always about worship like Taraweeh and dhikr. Rather, we should count how many opportunities for good deeds we had in the day, but were wasted. We will have dropped many chances.

Allah ta'ala grants us many rewards from committing very small actions to encourage us. He uses this month to train us, such that, if we become habitual in doing good deeds in Ramadan, then it will make a big difference to the rest of our lives. Thus, we shouldn't discard any opportunities for good deeds especially when we have the power and resources.

We should be hasty in serving and help others regardless of their race and background. Every good deed is not compulsory upon a person. But after performing the Faraaid, there are many ranks to attain in Paradise via our good deeds so we should avoid being lazy and ignorant in this month.

We should become extra cautious and abstain from all sins in this month, even minor sins, otherwise it will become a punishment for us. Shaytan is chained but our desires are still present with us. The wretched Nafs invites you towards sin and makes you fight and quarrel with people. However, if you make a mistake, then repent immediately and Allah ta'ala will forgive you. If you’re cautious in this month, then Allah will assist you in the other months. Whoever, spends the month of Ramadan well, the rest of his year will be spent well.

Whoever perform a voluntary good deed in Ramadan, Allah ta'ala will grant him the reward akin to a Fard action. Whoever performs one Fard action, he receives the reward of 70 Faraaid. Therefore, we should not consider any good deed to be insignificant during this month.

The great pious people of this world cannot equate to the rank of a single Sahabi. This is the status of the Noble Sahabah. Similarly. You can try performing good deeds your entire life, but it can never equate to a Fard. However, in Ramadan, Allah ta'ala multiplies our rewards greatly to encourage us to perform more good deeds.

To feel remorse over a sin or a wasted opportunity for good is proof that you have some element of Imaan present within you. Experience regret over the few days of Ramadan which have passed you and the opportunities you have wasted. We hope in Allah ta’ala’s mercy that if one feels the remorse over a wasted opportunity for good in this world, then Allah ta'ala always compensates for him and rewards him. Similarly, Allah ta'ala loves it when one feels distress and remorse over a sin which he committed in the past, and thus, forgives him for it. However, if he regrets in the Hereafter, then it's all over for him.

If you became sick or distressed due to a calamity, then don't be hopeless and consider your Ramadan to be wasted. Instead, say 'Alhamdulillah' because you were excused. Due to your sadness, Allah ta'ala will grant you the same rank and will decorate paradise for you. You desired to perform the action and you are not generally lazy so the rewards will be written for you. Allah ta'ala knows that you passed your life with caution. He is the one who made you sick and took away your capacity to fast because He wished to elevate your status even more.

Similarly, if one is not able to attend the Dhikr Majlis, he will still get the reward because he desired and intended to come, but became unwell. Allah ta'ala knew he was regular and he would've partaken if he was able to. Such a person will receive double reward. We should be content that whatever Allah ta'ala inflicts upon us, is the best decision.

We should make a firm resolution not to waste any more opportunities for good out of our own negligence.

The greatest action is emulating the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. If you adorn yourself with the blessed turban, you receive the reward of a Fard.
Those who aren't wearing turbans are wasting the opportunity of performing a good deed this Ramadan.

The gatherings of the Wali Allah are delicate places as there is high intensity of Allah's nearness and in such a places we must be extremely cautious. We must appreciate such blessed and beautiful gatherings.

It is a very great thing to bring your children to the Dhikr Gathering and is vital for their good upbringing. Children become greatly impacted in the company of the Sheikh. Whatever you teach your child until the age of 8, he will learn it and it will penetrate within. Whatever environment you keep your child in until the age of 8, he will become like that. A child who is attached to the Dhikr Gathering, will not grow up to be some minor individual because Allah ta'ala selects such people from a young age. How fortunate are those mothers and fathers who put their children on this line of deen and with passion and desire their child runs after it.

We visit a Sheikh to overcome our nafs because a person who has not controlled his nafs is a dangerous person and is similar to an animal. The true human being is the one whose nafs is controlled, otherwise a person commits all sorts of treacherous sins.

One cannot attain the heights of Tasawwuf through worship, rather, it is attained through love. The first thing Allah ta'ala instilled within the Noble Sahabah was love and not worship. They were ready to give their lives for the Prophet ﷺ. They were restless in his absence and experienced great satisfaction in his presence. They became great individuals due to their love.

Similarly, we should also hold extreme love for our Sheikh. We should drown in the love for our teacher. The more one immerses himself in this ocean, the more he will attain the ranks and everything will be made easy for him. This is due to the love he has burning inside him.

The dhikr of the heart is a powerful worship which does not allow a person to become heedless as he is in the constant state of dhikr. Even whilst we are sleeping, we can attain rewards and be free from laziness and negligence.

May Allah ta'ala grant us the ability to implement.
