Which is the Lock for the Safety of Deeds?

A poor person does not have many issues because he has no wealth. He eats whatever he receives and utilises whatever he has. He should feel pleased as he begins to gain wealth, however, his concerns increase. He has concern over his wealth being stolen as well as his wealth which will be left behind after he passes away. So the more his wealth increases, the more his mind is overwhelmed with how to preserve and protect it. Each of us hold this concern because we regard wealth to be of something valuable.

Nabi ﷺ has said, "If this world was worth the wing of a mosquito to Allah, the disbeliever would not have a drop to drink from it." [Sunan Ibn Majah]

Allah gave this world to the disbelievers to enjoy, so it shows that this world holds no value. The most valuable thing in this world is Imaan. Even if the most impoverished person has Imaan, then he is considered the wealthiest person in the Hereafter, such that we cannot even comprehend.

The person who understands that deen and Imaan are a great asset, exerts himself in this world to protect his Imaan rather than his wealth.

In the Hereafter, a persons success will be based upon his deeds. We were sent to this world to earn deeds because they are the currency for our Hereafter. A person becomes valuable through his deeds so if Allah gives a person the ability to perform good deeds, this is a great blessing and Allah ta'ala has made him very wealthy.

Allah ta'ala enjoins certain actions upon us which are beloved to Him because the people of Imaan are beloved to Allah. We regard these instructions to be strict because we are unaware of the rewards Allah ta'ala is granting us in return. In fact, It is Allah ta’ala’s great favour upon us that he gave us the honour to emulate the ways of His beloved ﷺ.

Nabi ﷺ said, "He who loves my Sunnah has loved me, and he who loves me will be with me in Paradise." [Tirmidhi]

Nabi ﷺ has promised to take such a person to Paradise, yet we are still stubborn upon following the western ways. Shaytan is the cause of this misguidance. He causes a person to become worried that if he adopts the beard for example, then he will not find a suitor for marriage. In this way, we become shackled to our own desires and we succumb to the fashion of society.

"O believers! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger, and do not invalidate your deeds." [47:33]

To perform good deeds is not a big achievement. To protect your deeds that Allah ta’ala has enabled you to do is the greatest achievement and most important. So when we pray and recite Quran, we should recognise the value of our worship and make it our responsibility to preserve them.

Shaytan tries to waste our Imaan and then he attempts to prevent us from committing good deeds. Thereafter, he attempts to corrupt those good deeds, which shows that we must preserve our deeds.

The person whose prayer is accepted by Allah, his entire day is peaceful as he receives the true effects and goodness of that prayer.

The misuse of the tongue is what destroys our good deeds the most and the tongue is the weapon which Shaytan uses to influence us.
Nabi ﷺ has promised paradise for the person who controls his tongue and on another occasion a Sahãbi asked Nabi ﷺ , "O Messenger of Allah! What do you fear most about me?" He took hold of his own tongue and said: "This." [Tirmidhi]

Here, no act of worship was mentioned. Rather, Nabi ﷺ highlighted the importance of preserving our deeds. This shows that the root of backbiting, lying, cursing, slandering and futile talk is the tongue and it is the greatest cause of our deeds being wasted. Allah ta'ala has kept the tongue behind the teeth in order for it to be protected.

Al-Bayhaqi reported, Hadhrat Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah رحمة الله عليه, said, “Backbiting is worse to Allah than fornication and drinking wine, as fornication and drinking wine is a sin between you and your Lord. If you repent from them, Allah will accept your repentance. Yet backbiting is not forgiven unless the victim forgives you." [Shu’ab al-Imān]

Reciting Quran, praying Salaah, going for Hajj and Umrah, all these actions are easy to perform. However, ensuring these deeds lead us to Paradise and provide us benefit in the Hereafter without being wasted in this world, is what is difficult to attain. This is why we are in need of a guide.

The one who visits a Wali Allah, will never return empty handed. If he visits for any worldly intention, then he will receive nothing. A person receives from his teacher according to his intention as a student. Abu Jahal had corrupt intention so he attained nothing. Hadhrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه's intentions were correct so he became Hadhrat Siddiq Akbar رضي الله عنه. There is a great difference.

The cure for protecting the tongue is observing silence. The man with the highest rank will be the one who was most silent in the world. The dhikr of Allah is what assists a person to adopt the habit of observing silence. It provides contentment to the heart and makes a person independent from everything else.

It is not befitting for you to select a Sheikh based on your own benefit and desires. Many people end up abandoning their Sheikh because they don’t receive what they desire. In reality, Allah ta'ala selects a Sheikh for an individual. This is a great blessing because the pathway of guidance has been opened up for you through the Wali Allah - a deputy of Nabi ﷺ. Through his company you will attain eternal success because Allah ta’ala loves the Awliyah and wages war against those who oppose and challenge them.

The Naqshbandi style of performing dhikr is to close the eyes and immerse the heart in the dhikr of Allah. The more you are detached from the world, the higher the rank you will attain. If you do not perform dhikr, then you have no safeguarding measure over your deeds and Shaytan will steal your deeds. The greater the deed Allah has allowed you to perform, the greater the safeguarding and security it needs.

This upcoming Ijtimã has been established for the purpose of pleasing Allah as Allah ta'ala becomes pleased when His beloved servants are remembered and their narratives are mentioned. During the Ijtimã, we connect ourselves to the pious predecessors and send reward (Isaale Thawaab) to them. This is the means Allah ta'ala has provided for us to attain His love and closeness. Whoever partakes in the Ijtimã with a good intention, Allah ta'ala will accept him and grant him forgiveness.

May Allah ta'ala grant us the ability to implement.
