The Reason and Cure for Disobedience

When you identify the root cause of an illness, then it is very easy to identify the cure and until you don't understand the cause, you will face complications and hurdles and consequently, it hinders the cure.

Allah has given the believers the Quran in which there is healing and mercy. Despite accepting this book, we are in loss. We lose out on its benefits because we don't have complete conviction in the Quran. If you don't accept the cure which has been prescribed for you from a doctor, then you won't utilise the medicine which you have been given. Thus, having complete conviction is vital because even if there is no effect within that medicine, Allah ta'ala will create the effect and grant you the cure.

If only we took the guidance from the Quran, then we would be cured from magic and jinn possession. All cures are present in this book and If we don’t refer to the Quran, then only we are to blame for being deprived.

The Quran informs us that the root cause for misguidance, spiritual and mental illnesses and every type of sorrow is possessing negative thoughts. It is due to this a person becomes depressed and despondent. It is due to this, quarrelling and divorces occur within the home and society become disturbed.

These Wasaawis (satanic whispers) deceive a person and make him fearful. They overwhelm a person and control his emotions and movements. If one is able to control his thoughts, then he becomes a very strong individual, regarding which the Quran says,

أَلَا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاءَ اللَّهِ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

"Surely the friends of Allah have nothing to fear, nor shall they grieve." [10:62]

These verses relate to the friends of Allah where Allah ta'ala has defined them. The Awliyah are not those who possess miracles and magic and have many followers. Rather, they are those who are loyal and obedient to Allah and in turn, Allah enables them to remain in control of their thoughts.

Surah Naas demonstrates the solution to man's problems as well as a way to attain success.

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ. مَلِكِ النَّاسِ. إِلَهِ النَّاسِ

"Say, [O Prophet,] “I seek refuge in the Lord of Mankind, the King of Mankind, the God of Mankind." [114:1-3]

There are 3 qualities mentioned here. The Lord of Mankind, the King of Mankind and the one worthy of worship. It is due to negative thoughts that one rejects these 3 qualities of Allah.

When referring to 'parents' in the Quran, Allah uses the word رب. This is because parents have the characteristics of 'nurturing' and 'taking care'. A mother gives birth to a child and through her milk, the child is given nourishment and every vitamin he requires. So if Allah has provided for a child through his mother, then will Allah not provide for us? Allah has provided such resources so will He not provide for our individual needs?

مَلِكِ النَّاسِ
"The King of Mankind." [114:2]

The prime minister is the leader of his people and the people of the land are his subjects who he has authority over. The citizens are required to implement and obey the laws he passes. How unfortunate is it that Allah is the king of all Kings, yet we disobey Him?

إِلَهِ النَّاسِ
"The God of Mankind." [114:3]

Allah is your God and He provides you with everything, yet you worship others and request from others.

Allah mentions the root cause for this in the next verse -

مِنْ شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ . الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ

"From the evil of the whisperer (devil.) Who whispers into the hearts of Mankind." [114:4-5]

The whispers of Shaytan cause much destruction, such that, despite possessing knowledge and understanding, one becomes misguided and distanced from Allah. If we want to be protected from sins and punishments of the Hereafter then we need to control the whispers of Shaytan by turning to Allah and seeking refuge in Him. Another way to combat these whispers is to learn dhikr from a Sheikh. The Naqshbandi teacher trains the whole body to do the dhikr of Allah.

Nabi ﷺ said, there are two rooms within a human beings heart. An angel dwells in one room and the devil dwells in the other. When a person engages in the remembrance of Allah, then the devil flees from his heart. When he ceases the remembrance of Allah, then the devil fixes himself over the individual's heart and injects his whispers within him. [Muslim]

Allah ta’ala has created this solution so that even for a single moment, one is not devoid of success. This shows that we should not spend any time devoid of the remembrance of Allah otherwise we are at great risk.

Your worship and your teacher is of no benefit to you if they do not cause you to progress. They are merely considered a time waste if you haven't attained Allah's pleasure through those means.

Your womenfolk have many favours upon you. They give birth to your children and serve you. They preserve your honour and bear your scolding and injustice. The noble Sahabah would have great concern for ensuring the rights of their wives. They feared the consequences of its violation.

Hadhrat Umar رضي الله عنه came home weeping one day and his wife questioned him as to why he was weeping. He replied, "as I was coming home, I heard people praising me and suddenly I thought about you and wondered if I had fulfilled your rights. I'm often occupied in tasks during the day and night and I prioritise everyone else besides you." Then Hadhrat Umar رضي الله عنه sought forgiveness from his wife and she confirmed that he hadn't given her sufficient time nor fulfilled her rights whilst she had been busy raising their children. Hadhrat Umar رضي الله عنه begged for forgiveness again but she refused so Hadhrat Umar رضي الله عنه became very fearful for his Hereafter.
In the end, his wife agreed that she would forgive him under the condition that he would intercede for her in Hereafter and that he would take her with him to his abode in paradise. She then mentioned, "I cry all night long because I am not able to serve and fulfil the rights of such a great man like you. However, today you have given me the promise, so now I am satisfied that we will be together in Paradise."

Today we have no respect and value for our wives. If we considered them to be worthy, then we would teach them dhikr. We must encourage our womenfolk to take bay'ah with a Sheikh and ensure that they are not deprived otherwise we will be answerable to Allah.

People complain, "you're making us backwards." But in reality, we are the ones who are modern and advanced because Islam is the religion which came last and it is the most preferred religion to Allah. We are the most fashionable when we wear the Izãar and the blessed Imãmah. We are the most modern. We have the latest practice, the latest ideology and the latest lifestyle. Most people nowadays practice the ways of those from the old age a thousand years ago. We should remove this sense of inferiority complex. In reality, the more you imitate the Prophet ﷺ, the more advanced and progressive you will become. Through his complete emulation, one attains Allah ta’ala’s pleasure.

May Allah ta’ala help us to implement.
