Which Two Deeds has Allah ordered?

Allah ta'ala created the entire creation out of His divine wisdom. He made Mankind the most honoured of Creation and sent them to earth. Allah ta'ala has ordained 2 duties upon Man during his time in this world.

Allah ta'ala has taken responsibility of all other duties related to man, such as his sustenance and means of living.

"And Allah provides for whoever He wills without limit." [24:38]

We must remain satisfied with the sustenance that we receive in this world whether we receive a little or in plentiful. When we are grateful, Allah ta'ala grants us more, but if we are ungrateful, then we will become deprived. Allah ta'ala is responsible of managing our affairs, so we should not worry about these things and in turn, forgetting what our actual duties are.

So what are our 2 duties in this world?

"Those who believe and do righteous deeds." [2:82]

1) To believe in Allah with all His attributes and 2) to engage in good deeds.

Allah ta'ala commands us to believe in Him. Today we see that many people take idols, humans or animals as deities. Despite being so educated and proficient, they cannot recognise the true God.

Complete Imaan consists of believing in Allah with all His attributes, believing in his books, His Messengers, His angels, believing in Paradise, Hellfire and resurrection. All of this combined is Imaan.

Imaan does not mean picking and choosing which orders we would like to obey. One should adopt the rules of Allah wherever He is, whether he is in a western country or an Islamic Country.

means that those good deeds should be sincere such that they reach the level of acceptance in the eyes of Allah.
Imaan without good deeds is like a tree which does not bear fruits. Faith and good deeds come hand in hand. A person cannot possess faith without adopting good deeds.

Shaytan is our enemy and only has one duty in this world. He attempts to destroy our Imaan and deviate us up until our death. Any second we spend disobeying Allah is dangerous because we can die anytime and consequently have a bad ending. Hence, Nabi ﷺ would recite this dua.

"I seek refuge in You from the devil harming me at the time of my death."
[Abu Dawud] and would similarly supplicate to Allah for an ending upon Imaan.

To possess faith even the size of an atoms worth, is the most valuable thing in this world because ultimately, Allah ta'ala will be pleased with such a believer and will also protect him from serving eternal punishment.

There is a wisdom behind sins because when we repent from sins, our status is raised. Sins also help us to progress. Even if our sins are many, sincere repentance can wipe them all out and convert them into good deeds. Surely, Allah's Mercy outweighs His wrath.

"Verily, in the creation of the heavens and the Earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding." [3:190]

Allah ta'ala created the world as a place of means and everything within it depends upon a cycle or a resource. Allah ta'ala created the resource of energy which the entire world runs upon and is sustained. This is Allah ta’ala’s arrangement of the universe out of His divine wisdom.

Everything in this earth relies on power and energy. A car will only drive when it's fueled with petrol. A tree will only bear fruit once the soil has been watered and fertilised. Similarly, our Imaan needs to be fueled so we can engage in good deeds. The one who has Imaan but does not engage in good deeds, is deprived of the necessary fuel.

Hadhrat Abu Darda رضي الله عنه reported: Nabi ﷺ said, “Shall I not tell you of the best of your deeds, which is the purest to your King, which raises you among your ranks, which is better for you than spending gold and money in charity, and which is better for you than meeting your enemy and striking the necks of each other?” They said, “Of course!” The Prophet said, “It is the remembrance of Allah Almighty.” [Tirmidhī ]

Dhikr is the power of Imaan. When you want to provide energy to your Imaan, then engage in dhikr which will protect your Imaan and also protect you from Shaytan. The Sahabah would strengthen their Imaan through the Dhikr of Allah.
They were the best of people, yet understood the importance of dhikr. Nowadays, it is even more crucial to engage in dhikr. In current times, it takes one second to lose our Imaan and we see people selling their Imaan for ten pounds or a false signature when in essence, a believer should not be declared a liar.

Those whose Imaan are not fueled, do not have the courage and strength to change their ways and leave wrongdoing. The cure for such people is to visit a pious person and sit in their pious company.

There is a massive difference between the actions of the one who engages in dhikr and the one who doesn't. The quality of a true Dhaakir is reflected in his emulation of the Sunnah of Nabi ﷺ in totality. Dhikr always brings about positive change to a person and the one who engages in dhikr is compared to a living person, whilst the one who doesn't, is compared to the likes of a dead person.

"Oh you who believe, remember Allah with much remembrance." [33:41]

Nabi ﷺ has commanded us to engage in abundance of dhikr and has taught us the method.

"And glorify Him morning and evening." [33:42]

Engage in dhikr morning and evening. This is the cure which we have been prescribed with, alongside its prescribed time. Abundance of dhikr refers to the dhikr of the heart. For as long as the heart is alive, it should be fueled with Allah's dhikr.

Spend time in the company of your Sheikh and engage in plenty of Muraqabah. One shouldn't waste time in this world, otherwise in paradise one will regret the moments he did not spend remembering Allah.

We must strengthen our Imaan through dhikr and that will help us to increase in good deeds.

May Allah ta’ala help us to strengthen our Imaan and engage in good deeds.
