A Sahabi asked What is Deen? A Sahabi requested, "Oh Prophet of Allah, what is deen?" It’s a great question because we all know what is deen. When a person recites the Kalimah, لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله. After one recites the Kalimah, he has entered the deen but nevertheless his question was unique on the basis that he was a companion and he was asking what the deen was. So in reality, the question was very deep and the one who answered it, was very great. No matter how difficult the question was, there was no one who could give a simple answer like this. He always gave the response in a simple way because the deen is vast. He could've explained the deen thoroughly. He could've opened up the hadith and said, "Deen is salaah, deen is hajj, deen is fasting, deen is zakat, deen is this good deed", deen is vast and detailed. However, look at how Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave a summarised answer and what was the reason for the concise answer? So it could be easy for us to act upon it. One is this point and secondly, we ask for, اهدنا الصراط المستقيم So we realise that we are following the correct deen that Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam told us. That’s how easy he made it. When he asked the question, there were other Sahabah present and none of them were surprised. "Oh Rasulullah, what is deen?" Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied with a great answer. "Mannerism, Character." Everyone remained silent. Then he asked for a second time, "Oh Rasulullah, what is the deen?" Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam again replied. "Akhlaq Character." So no other deed is being mentioned. Look at the other deeds, Islam is full of deeds. Then the third time he asked the question, "Oh Rasulullah, what is the deen?" Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied. "Akhlaq." SubhaanAllah, in other words, he kept asking and was getting the same response. He asked again, he didnt stop there but asked a forth time, "Oh Rasulullah, what is the deen?" Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam then summarised and made it more concise. He said, "anger." SubhaanAllah, in other words controlling the anger. Firstly, there are 2 parts of our deen with our Islam and deeds. One is external and one is internal, so here Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam linked the external deed with the internal deed. That one's character is linked to the inner state of a person, it is not linked to his external deeds, so what we realise is that you can perform many external actions like, Zuhd, abstention from the world, but you can't use your own measuring device to determine ones Islamic religiosity, your nearness to Allah, the phases of the Hereafter. That's not for us to decide. It is the measurement which Allah and His messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam have mentioned. So here, what was the measurement that they have told us? The basis for a person being righteous, pious and good, is that his character should be good. His character should be good. What is Akhlaq? All his external worship depend on his inner state, because the objective of all our external deeds is one. Just one objective and no other one besides that. Not even Jannah. Not even being safe from Hellfire. We have one objective. And that is, "Oh Allah be pleased with this worship of mine." If Allah is pleased then that person has achieved the objective for everything. The purpose of performing every worship and action is to please Allah. So here Allah ta'ala is indirectly saying that He is happy with that person whose character is good. Whose character is on a high level . Why? Because the external deeds have also been given to strengthen the Akhlaq and make it consistent. But that cannot be the measurement yard and determining factor. Which Namaazi, observer of prayer is good? Everyone prays saalah, the entire masjid is full of Musallee but which Namaazi is the best? The one whose character is good. When he speaks, he speaks with respect. He overlooks people's defects. He respects the elders. He is merciful towards the young. When he is afflicted with distress, he doesn't complaint to Allah. He will endure and will always be a grateful servant of Allah. These things come within a person once his inner state is correct. Look at this. The real success is based on the inner state. Jannah will be filled with the Muttaqi. And all the Muttaqi will be those with good character. There will be no one with bad character who will go to Jannah, nor reach a high level, It cannot be imagined. So this is the biggest point. To develop good character. There's an open plain field in front of us. Now how many of us people are on the right level where our character is corrected. How many of us are aware of this or doing this? Very few. Whoever we speak to, "I prayed salaah and that's enough. I've done a Umrah, I'm fine. That's it, I've done Dhikrullah and that's good enough. I'm a good person." But you need to see the result after engaging in all deeds, that what change has come in me? What does change refer to? Your inner state has been changed and improved. You can engage in physical worship for 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, but the reality is, alongside performing that worship, how much changes have occurred within you. How much has your inner self developed through it? So this is a point we need to be really concerned about because we are going to go to the Hereafter and stand in front of Allah and we have to answer for all these things. You can't engage in worship according to your own desires. So we realise from this great hadith that upon each answer Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "improve your character." Most of our efforts, including external actions, not that we can just leave them, we need to improve our character in parallel to them. We need to strengthen it. I'll share another hadith with you and then you'll understand this subject easily. In the same way, there was a companion and he said, ",oh Prophet of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam", because his question was very high and in questioning and responding, a person can receive the solution and success. So he said, "oh Prophet of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, please tell me the best of actions which will take me straight to paradise. There should be nothing preventing me from paradise. It should take me to paradise immediately and give me a high status in paradise. Please tell me such a deed." The question was very great. Allah's Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "Fine, it is Akhlaq and Taqwa." Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has opened a new door for us that such a great thing is Akhlaq about which the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said we have to try. We have to make the effort. Yes. So how does a person attain good character. What method do we use to attain akhalaq? Akhalq is an internal state. You can't learn it from a darul uloom, you can't learn it from a school, you can't but it from a shop, you can't read about it in a book, they can explain to you about these things like I'm explaining to you, but it is not improving your Akhalq is it? This is an internal state and until you have the medicine you can't improve. If someone has a flu and you say, "you'll be cured." You go to a doctor and they say, "you have got a cold, yes you have a headache, yes I found out that your kidney has failed, Yes I realised you have a hole in your heart. Okay, go away now." Would the patient be satisfied? He'd say you have diagnosed me with the sickness but is that it? Shall I just die now?" A second question will come, "I have for pain in my eye but prescribe me a medicine so I can take it." So these sources can provide us information, to improve our Akhlaq, but here Allah's Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has also mentioned the path to us. That if you want to improve your akhlaq it is through Tazkiyah and Taqwa. Once you go towards Taqwa then where will that go? It will impact your Akhlaq. Taqwa within you shows that's your inner state has been improved. In other words, the diseases and sicknesses are removed and replaced with good. How? Your Akhlaq. So, a very beautiful statement my Hadhrat sahib said and I've told you this before, but I keep reading it and when I hear it then I get a lot of satisfaction because there was a complication on this point. We have our own thoughts and opinions. When a person goes to a Wali Allah, then he has his own standard, that when I go, I will become pious, I will become a Wali Allah, I will become a famous pious person. We think when we go to a pious person we are just going to get wazeefah or we will receive some supernatural learnings from him. We will improve emotionally and learn a new thing. The second question is. What is a Wali Allah? What do they do? What are their deeds? How does a person become a Wali Allah, I want to do the same. So Hadhrat sahib's statement was a very great one. He said, "when Akhlaq Razeela is removed from a person and it is replaced with Akhlaq Hameedah, then Wilaayat is achieved. That is the sign of Wilaayat. Friendship with Allah. Akhlaq Razeela is what? Bad character and habits, lying, backbiting, accusing someone, demeaning someone, breaking someone's heart, these are all bad states through which a person is destroyed. And in replacement for these habits, when love, endurance, softness, forgiveness, removing enmity and building friendship, is instilled within the heart, then it means Akhlaq Hameedah has been created. So if one possesses Akhlaq Hameeda, it means he has attained Wilaayat. This is what Wilaayat, friendship with Allah is. Why? Because Wilaayat is when Allah loves you. He is happy with you. Yes. Everything else is secondary which is not related to us. Kashf, miracles, visions, Hindu's will also demonstrate these things to you. They show a lot of these things. Someone is flying in the wind. Someone is doing something else. Magicians will show you many things too. Those Aamils will show you who control Jinns, he will make you speak to the jinn and make you build a friendship. So are these people Wali of Allah? No. You see a jinn and start talking to a jinn, is this proof that you're a Wali? Jinns themselves claim to be dependent and say that we, humans, are stronger than them and we are just living alongside you. So a person becomes a true human being when he has developed Akhlaq Hameedah. And Akhlaq Hameedah is connected to what? The Taqwa of that person. If you strengthen your Taqwa, then your Akhlaq will begin to improve. Ramadan has come and this is the month of Taqwa. لعلكم تتقون What changes should come within us during Ramadan? We've read this much Quran, sat on i'tikaaf, this is not what we can present as success for Ramadan. Taqwa means that after Ramadan you need proof that Ramadan came to you and you improved. So a change should arise within our inner states. Even if one defect has been removed, consider that Taqwa has been instilled within you alhamdulillah. But Ramadan has only comes to remove our inner diseases. It has come only for this. So we understand 2 things. Firstly, all of the deen of Islam is dependant on what? The inner state of a person. His Akhlaq and all the effort that a believer should make to improve his islam and deen should be focused on what? His inner state. Doesn't matter how long it takes but he should make his inner state and his soul pure. So from this hadith Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave us a great advice, the 4th thing Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said along with Akhlaq was what? Anger. This is also an excellent message which he brought to us. That the entire deen is found in good character, and if you want to improve your Akhalq then the first thing you should do is control your anger from your inner emotions. Controlling the anger. It seems like there's only one thing which corrupts the Akhlaq of a human being, which is one thing within a person, which is his anger. That is what destroys a person. Why did you murder? Because I was angry? Why did you fight? Because I was angry. Why did you do such thing? Because I was angry. Why did you give divorce? Because I was angry at that time. Many people ask the Mufti, "has this divorce taken place? Divorce hasn’t taken place has it?" He said, "I gave it in anger." Well, obviously, divorce is given in anger isn't it? A person doesn't give divorce to his wife whilst laughing and happy does he? So that's where the problem lies. That you had anger and you divorced her. So it was the result of anger that the divorce was given. "Oh I murdered someone and I was angry at that time." Obviously the anger is generated and then it will lead to the murder. Anger will cause murder. So if we look at the root cause, it is anger. The first thing to improve our Akhlaq is to control our anger. Let me explain to you one thing about anger. Allah has put this quality of anger inside a human being and everyone has anger. Even the Sahabah had anger within them. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam also had anger. Abu Bakr Radhiyallahu Anhu had anger, Umar Radhiyallahu Anhu had anger. So if it was a bad thing, then why did Allah ta'ala instil it within them? That's a question. Who is it that didn't have anger? What we realise here is that anger is not a bad thing and it should be expressed. Say SubhaanAllah. So if I say, "I don’t have anger in me", then it means half of the human being is devoid. So anger should be there and it should be expressed and utilised. It will definitely come but the difference with anger is, how a person utilises the anger. How does he demonstrate the anger? If you display you anger when a Shariah order is being compromised or Shariah order is being broken, or Shariah is being harmed and affected negatively or people are doing something wrong against Allah and His Rasul sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, then if anger doesn't come on these occasions, then it is the biggest crime and disbelief of a person. That person doesn't have imaan, that when a person is committing wrong and speaking against Allah and His Rasul sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and you don't become angry? Or if a person is doing a wrong action regarding such and you don't become angry, then that is wrong Islamically. At that time, anger is permissible and it can be inflicted upon anyone at that time, there is no differentiation, because such a person committed a grave mistake so you'll feel angry and there will be a punishment for that anger and Shariah has given that instruction. Here anger would be permissible. Which anger is not permissible? That anger which you have through your nafs, to take revenge on people, anger for personal gain, or you're angry upon yourself, or you are angry in order to make your nafs feel satisfied. This anger is Haraam. So let's see how we should utilise our anger. For example, a woman says," 'I get angry a lot." "What do you get angry over?" "I become angry over my children and I can't prevent it." Womenfolk in their houses have this problem more, poor souls, they have the sickness of not being able to control their anger and who are they angry upon? The children. Children will obviously pester, that's their quality. Even the teacher becomes angry with the student isn't it? So even here it is permissible to be angry with your child for the purpose of Tarbiyyah, but when you see that your nafs is over taking and you feel angry that your child has done such and such and you hit them, then that becomes a sin, remember this. Here you will have to control yourself. If you're angry due to your own personal character, then consider, "has he really done something wrong which is not accepted in Shariah or am I doing it for his tarbiyyah and I have total control over my anger that the punishment is only for his or her tarbiyyah? A mother can show anger upon the child and she should but at that time she should think that I'm doing it for his or her tarbiyyah. I am giving a punishment for his tarbiyyah and not out of personal anger. This then becomes a great form of worship. A person who prays 1000 Tahajjud will not get the same reward that a mother will get when she becomes close to Allah due to this tarbiyyah. The father gets close to Allah due to this tarbiyyah. The teacher or sheikh gets close to Allah in this way. A Sheikh can also have anger. He is also strict with thousands of his students. They are arrogant or stubborn students. Children still listen to their parents but the students of a Sheikh are very stubborn. He orders not to do a certain thing and then sees that his student are doing the same thing repeatedly. So would the Sheikh not become angry? Of course. And a Sheikh cannot be a sheikh if he doesn't have that tender and soft heart within him. What a great hadith that, "my beloved, if you were not tender hearted, then nobody would stay by you. The greatest quality we have placed within you is that you are very soft hearted." And the Sheikh will always be soft hearted, remember that. This is the greatest quality otherwise all the students would run away if he picked up the stick when the mureed do all sorts. But he knows that he has the responsibility of rectifying them, some people are donkeys, owls or animals, there are thousand of different types of people but you need to make them all lovers of the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and take them to paradise. Allah ta'ala says this is the duty of a Sheikh. So here we learn that anger is permissible and it is a great tool and resource, but only when it is used for tarbiyyah and you have control over yourself, without expressing it for your own personal gain or desire but it is for Allah's sake to rectify this person so he is improved somehow. So you've heard this example before and I'm going to present this in your service again. A Jewish disbeliever came to Hadhrat Ali Radhiyallahu anhu and said, "I want to fight with you, I want to hit you." Hadhrat Ali Radhiyallahu Anhu said, "yes come, let's wrestle." He was up for the challenge. "Im ready come." So people were watching and he wanted too show off because, he was like a bodybuilder, a wrestler. Hadhrat Ali Radhiyallahu anhu was physically weak, but spiritually he was the lion. This was his quality. He was called the lion of Allah. His eyes and legs were thin, he was weak, but Allah ta'ala gave him such strength that no one had the power of Hadhrat Ali Radhiyallahu anhu. This was the special quality of Hadhrat Ali Radhiyallahu anhu. "Come, okay, you're a bodybuilder, everyone is scared of you, Then fine, wrestle with Ali. See the strength of Hadhrat Ali Radhiyallahu anhu who is the lion of Mustafa sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Let's see what he does with you." So he came and Hadhrat Ali Radhiyallahu anhu used one hand and brought him to the ground. The students of the bodybuilder couldn’t bear it that with one swift movement, he was on the floor. So he was on the floor and Hadhrat Ali Radhiyallahu anhu sat on his chest and took his sword out. What was the issue? He is the enemy of Allah and disrespectful to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. The fight was against Allah and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and it wasn't a personal fight of Hadhrat Ali Radhiyallahu anhu. And he was a disbeliever so he did a bad action before he was about to pass away. He spat at the face of Hadhrat Ali Radhiyallahu anhu as he was close. And just as he spat, and he knew he couldn't do anything else at this current time so he thought I might as well spit. Hadhrat Ali Radhiyallahu anhu, immediately placed his sword back into his sheath. He got off slowly and stood to the side and said, "get up now." He couldn't get up and he was amazed that, one man who has overpowered me, I wanted to kill him and I was underneath him and was under his control and with ease he just stood up. So he thought what is going on here. He got up and asked, "why didn't you kill me? You had complete control over me? Why did you let me go?" Hadhrat Ali Radhiyallahu anhu said, "my Islam says this." He said, "what does Islam teach?" "My sheikh taught me this. The ones whose enemy you are, he taught me this." He said, "what did he teach you?" He said, "my sheikh taught me that when you love, love for the sake of Allah and when you have anger, have anger for the sake of Allah." What a great point. When you love, you love for who? Who should be in between? Allah should be in between. All of your love. When you're angry then? Allah should be in between that anger. He said, you dishonoured Allah and His Rasul sallallahu alayhi wa sallam so I lay you down on the ground and you were about to be done with. But when you did wrong to me and spat at me, then my nafs came in between and contaminated that emotion." SubhaanAllah. Look at how the Sahabah controlled their anger. So this is what we practice when we go to the wali Allah for Tazkiyah. These are the tests in our lives and we have to overcome these tests and challenges alhamdulillah. Great tests will come in the life of a human being and however much he is tested, the more his ranks will be raised in the Hereafter. The world will pass but when a person reaches Jannah, Allah will say, "see, paradise wasn't in your fate but you used to be distressed with all the challenges and problems and then you'd look at other people that they are enjoying themselves, if only you understood that I had so much love for you and I would make you engage in this worship where you are being afflicted but you are persevering." Because Allah ta'ala's worship is vast. It is not just fasting and Quran and prayer. Allah selects His servants in some way and the method for that is, when Allah selects you, you should raise your hands and say, 'Allah ta'ala, I understand that you gave me this worship and through it I will enter Jannah." If you don't understand, then ask a Wali Allah. Confirm. There is nothing to be distressed about. A hadith comes to mind which I remember, there was a sahabi or Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself, but there was a woman who would be harassed by Jinn, perhaps she had epilepsy, but even that is the effect of jinns and she would experience severe fits of epilepsy, and she went mad and she came to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and said, "make dua for me so that my fits of epilepsy can be removed." He said, "okay." There's a unique point here. A dua should be made for a person's sickness to be lifted but sometimes Allah ta'ala has given a person sickness for his advancement, for his ranks to be increased. If you want it to be removed then panadol can even take it away. When you're sneezing and you take panadol, the sickness goes away. Allah has kept a cure in everything. Sometimes the Wali of Allah can also diagnose and look into the problem so Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, ",yes you have this sickness but let me explain something to you. If I raise my hands to supplicate for you, your illness will be removed, but the other thing is, if you persevere through this sickness, then the doors of paradise are open for you. So it's your choice." And the woman had intellect. She said, "how long. Even if I am cured, then how long will I be alive? How long will I be alive for in this world? I0 years more or 15 years more or 18 years more. Or okay even 100 years more. But in the end, I have to go back to my Lord. So what will happen there then? Here I'm receiving a guarantee for paradise." Say SubhaanAllah. So if you've tried to cure yourself and the illness is not being removed then raise your hands and understand that, “I am taking the means and I am praying but my sickness isn't going, my difficulty isn't going,” the solution should come so you should make dua for this. But when you make dua and you are trying and you also ask someone else to pray for you, but the difficulty is not disappearing, then put your hands up and say, "Allah, I have realised that you have given me a choice now and yes we are our beloved just like Hadhrat Ayyub Alayhis salaam whom you tested. You tested Hadhrat Yusuf Alayhis salaam. You threw him into the well. How many years did he endure but in the end, he saw in his dreams that 11 stars were bowing down at him. So he said, "the result came, although it came late. But it all came out in my favour" All the tests that he went though, he went to jail, he was a Prophet, and he was thankful to Allah that, "Allah it is you. You put me through the tests and you are the one who will give me the solution." So when trials and difficulties befall a person, then what should he do? Understand that through this route, Allah is giving you advancement and success. People will go to paradise through their sujud, salaah, their charity, or through Umrah but Allah has given me calamity which I must endure in this world and this is my test. There's a beautiful dua. Oh Allah when you take away the blessings which are beloved to me and I desire, then please replace it for me with the highest stages in paradise. Whatever you have taken from me, my sleep, my health, whatever a person is afflicted with, there are thousands of problems which a person can't count. When Allah ta'ala takes them, the servant should accept. He shouldn’t think that, "he is doing this, I should also do this. He is like this, I should be the same." Everyone has a different situation. Everyone has an individual unique connection with Allah. You should strengthen your connection with Allah through the situation Allah has put you in. So a person who has engaged in worship for 100 years will go to paradise and you will also go to paradise, but your ranks will be higher because the tests you were placed in were Ajeeb and Allah will say, "you understood my point and you persevered and in this way you earn your jannah." So that lady said, "that's fine, I have accepted." So the thing is, one should be happy with the system of Allah. So I was speaking to you about anger. Ali Radhiyallahu anhu said, "I was fighting with you for the sake of Allah, but when you spat at me, then I realised that I was angry," Obviously he was human at the end of the day wasn't he? "so my anger came and I realised and I came off you and pulled myself together." SubhaanAllah. This is called swallowing the anger. He said, "is this what your teacher taught you? We are enemies with him for nothing? Such a great personality and what a small point he has taught you. You have implemented such a great deed, so imagine how great your teacher must be." He said, "Ali, I wont let you go." He said, "why?" He said, "first make me a muslim. Let me meet Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam." So this was anger wasn't it? A beautiful hadith is coming to my mind now. Its a hadith from ibn Muad Radiyallahu Anhu in Mishkat , a great hadith. What a great hadith. In my mind I repeated the hadith myself quickly. Ibn Muad Radhiyallahu anhu said that, "the human being becomes angry," Just like Hadhrat Ali Radhiyallahu anhu became angry and anger will always come to us as I said you've come here today and perhaps many of you have come angry due to someone. Someone stopped in front of your car and you got angry. "I was coming out!" Anger. "I was walking and someone barged me." Anger. So anger means that Allah has given us such a great blessing that the doors of paradise are always open via anger being displayed correctly. Every second the door of paradise is open. I'm telling you the hadith. So, ajeeb, unique lesson today alhamdulillah. The doors of paradise are always open because a person always becomes angry. Anger is within us and you could be angry with anyone. Sometimes you are angry with your Sheikh. So what is anger? You will become angry and it will come somehow. But for the one who swalllows the anger, what were the words? Yes like a sip of water, so you have controlled yourself a little bit. How? This is why we go to a Sheikh. We go for this, to learn this point. How shall we learn? I used to see Hadhrat sahib and how soft he was, how he treated his enemies, he was sworn at, but he would be smiling and the students are saying, “give us permission to slice his neck or beat him up so he cannot leave.” But no. Hadhrat sahib would say, "why are you interfering? It is between me and him. You sit there calmly." He would never allow them to speak in between. This was not a drama. Because he learnt this from their Sheikh and he learnt from his sheikh. Going back through the generations and centuries, who did Abu Bakr Radhiyallahu Anhu learn this from? Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Yes this is how the sanad, the chain of order was established in Tasawwuf. Just like the Ahadith Sanad goes back through a chain, the Muhadithun say "I heard from him, I heard from him." When the hadith would be mentioned, I can try to explain to you, it was when they drank water or they ate a date, then they'd display a certain action and the performance of this action when narrating the hadith is still being carried out today. Why? Because when the Holy Prophet sallallahu sallallahu wa sallam's delivered the hadith, he did this certain action, then he told the next person, so when the Muhadithun give permission to their students first they say, "I heard it like this," and they display the action and say, "now I give you the permission to do this action or narrate. So this is the Islamic tradition. When the heart meets the heart, it goes back and when you share that light, then you will get the learning. And if you have darkness and you share that darkness, then the fire emerges and the teachings of Shaytan will be taught and shaytan is very wretched. So coming back to the hadith regarding swallowing the anger. It is narrated that, "when a person swallows his anger, then he is saved from millions and thousands of sicknesses, he is safe from internal maladies." Let me share the hadith with you, the first reward of the Hereafter, forget the world, Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "the one who swallows his anger and overlooks his anger," and we are getting this opportunity everyday. Someone parks their car in front of yours, you'll get angry, but if you swallow your anger, you will get this reward. Guaranteed. Imaam-Ul-Anbiyaa is giving you the guarantee who never speaks incorrectly. انك لا تخلف الميعاد With regards to Allah and Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. صدقنا قال whatever he spoke, he was sincere and honest. And Allah ta'ala guaranteed that Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam's speech is not out of his own accord, rather, he speaks with Wahi. All his speech is wahi. So what a great blessing anger is. Do you understand? What a great blessing. So whenever you get angry then laugh saying that "I learnt this hadith in Ramadan from this derveish and he spoke the truth." And this will happen everyday, tomorrow someone will swear at you, abuse you, do something to your car, you go to the shop and someone goes in front of you in the que, he pushes you and pays for his shopping before you. And what will happen to you first? You'll feel angry and when one is angry he either cries, screams, swears, everyone expresses their anger in different ways. When a child is angry, what does he do? He cries. When a adult becomes angry, what does he do? He hits. When someone is disrespectful to you, you swear at him. If someone is more enraged, he will hurl swear words and he will dishonour someone. Everyone has anger but the more dirty a person is, the worse his expression of anger. Say SubhaanAllah. The more dirt he has within him, the more vile his expression of anger will be. May Allah forgive us. When you throw a stone or a rock at a dirty place, then according to how dirty the place was, is the amount of dirty splashes you'll receive in return. If there's dirt inside you, then you'll be more happy, that this person is dirty and due to him throwing mud on me, I’m not getting any dirt on me. I’ll smile. I'm getting paradise so I will persevere through it. So the one who does the foolish actions, he is in loss. So then, look at the reward Allah ta’ala has kept. So Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, when you're angry and you swallow your anger then the first reward of the Hereafter which you will receive is, in front of this man, the Awliyah, Sahabah, Gauth, Qutub, Naqshbandi, Qadri, Chishtiya, all of the pious people will be standing. And what has come in to all of them? All of the people with high statuses and Allah's Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam will call out, "oh my man, come out so that I may see you." And he is thinking, "what have I done? Which action?" And he will be looking back at the people behind him thinking they are being called. "No. You" Sometimes it happens that when you call someone, they look back and think you're calling someone else. "Yes you, come here please , listen to me." SubhaanAllah. So Allah's Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam will say, "you come here." This is will be on the plains of reckoning. And he's thinking I’m a great sinner, what did I do? Maybe in front of everyone I'll be exposed that "I told you don't sin, don't lie, pray your salaah on time." Tell me what will this person do." He is getting up with extreme difficulty and everyone is looking wondering what is about to happen to him and he thinks he will be disgraced. So he gets up and goes to Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. In front of everyone, Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "he is a special servant of mine and I wish to reward him in front of everyone." What action did he do? He didn't become a monkey or a donkey. He controlled himself at that time of anger. He didn’t swear with his tongue, he didn't murder anyone , he didn't dishonour anyone, he controlled his anger. He will say, "this is that man”, and in front of all the pious people, if only we can attain this status too. And you will get it if you act upon this deed. Today in the morning I was thinking what shall I speak about today. And when I was coming, nothing came in my head, it happens sometimes and also I'm not feeling too well, a bit weak so I thought what shall we discuss today with my friends. I talk amongst you isn't it? I don't give a speech. So while I was coming, this hadith of Mishkat came in front of me. Look how this discussion has developed and everyone has become a jannati. SubhaanAllah. And Jannah has become so easy to attain that now we wish that anger comes and we can control it. Someone swears at us and we are happy. Someone dishonours me and I remain happy. Someone bumps in to me and I am happy. There was a man in an old masjid, people have enmity in their hearts and I used to stand to pray salah in a Randal masid and he was an enemy with us due to us doing dhikr. Because I used to do that action, which one? Dhikrullah. That action which is beloved to Allah. And he used to hate that action of dhikr. And he was standing in the first row and iqamah and takbir is being called, imagine that persons situation. In the dunya he is expressing his hatred that I don’t like dhikr. Allah ta'ala likes dhikr and he disliked it so much that the one who was doing dhikr, what action would he do? If I was standing with him by coincidence, then he would stand by me and elbow me during Iqamah. Astaghfirullah. I wont take his name. And I was amazed that this person is doing this!? That such a pious righteous man and I don't know where his name is written. May Allah grant him jannah. I make dua for him. But look at his action. He would elbow me and I would think, "you elbow me but I'm getting jannah aren't I?" I would deliberately go next to him because I had read this hadith. What loss was there for me? He would be so angry why I would stay next to him. SubhaanAllah. He would have creases on his forehead due to his anger. He used to push. Then the other person gets angry isn't it? They'd slap him and say, "why are you elbowing me? Who did you think you are?" But what are we being instructed to do here? You came today, come again tomorrow, come again the next day, come in front of me, stand beside me, why? Because you're raising my ranks in jannah. Alhamdulillah. I would deliberately go next to him and make dua for him. So going back to the hadith, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam will say, "come my colleague in front of all the people. I want to give you a reward today." And they give him a choice. "Its your choice." Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has this authority isn't it? What power did he have? "It’s your choice I’ll give to you. What do you want? Allah knows that we are from the dunya and we have 2, 3 desires only. We say. "I want a wife and I want her to be very beautiful. That’s all we want. That’s our first choice in the world. Because Allah knows we are from the dunya and intoxicated by the beauty of women, that’s all we care about. So nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "you have a choice." He said, "is it?" "Shall I tell you then?" "Tell me, will I receive it?" He said. "Yes you will.' Nabi sallallahu alayhi alayhi sallam said, "what will you tell me, I'll tell you myself according to your desire and taste. Have you seen the Hur's in Jannah?" Look at the reward! Have you seen the Hur's, the maidens in Jannah? They have incredible beauty, top class beauty about which it is stated, that if one Hur of Jannah was to glance at the dunya, the whole world and the universe will be immersed with the light of her beauty. How will we endure? Because we will become jannati so we will be able to see those things and we won't stay the same as we are now. Some Muslim brothers say that these are stories, "what are you talking about? I want business , just make dua for my shop. Don’t tell me anything." I tell you the honest truth. "Leave these Hur's you keep talking about, we'll see when jannah comes, just make dua that my business flourishes. Make dua for jannah afterwards. Tell me. So Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "all the Hur's are waiting for you, tell me which Hur you want to choose." That was the first choice. What a beautiful point. These are the words of the hadith i’ll narrate to you in Arabic. ملأ الله قلبه أمناً وإيماناً Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam will say, “listen oh foolish man, this is the real reward. The one who swallows his anger and perseveres through difficulties for the sake of Allah, Allah will fill his heart entirely with peace and faith.” Like you fill up a tub with water and it fills to the brim. You know like the water bottle, to the brim. Allah will fill his heart completely. What will it be filled with? أمناً وإيماناً The wealth of Imaan and peace. What else do you need? That's the question. After doing this deed, what else do you want? And for the one whose heart is full of faith, what must his status be in the hereafter? There are so many virtues for the one who has complete faith, so imagine the one whom Allah Himself fills his heart with faith. Imagine the condition of this person who has Imaan in the Hereafter, tell me. Peace with Imaan. This is a great reward from Allah. So my brothers, today's hadith were very beautiful and we should implement them. What shall we start with? Let me repeat so I can summarise. What is the greatest thing in our deen? Speak louder if you understand. What is it? Akhalq. How will Akhlaq be attained? Through Taqwa. Where do you attain Taqwa? From the company of the Sheikh. Yes. This is the silsila isn't it? And the lesson Allah has given us to take care of our Akhlaq is through what? What do we need to control? Anger. MashaaAlllah. The lesson is strong. So from now on, when anger comes, be thankful and then swallow that anger. And the anger will come, but swallow that anger. If you're angry with a small child, swallow that anger. Now those mothers who get angry with their children are listening. With every moment, build jannah for yourself. MashaaAllah. May Allah grant us all the ability. Ameen.
