DARS 42
Why was this Universe created?
{فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَـٰتٍ۬ فَتَابَ عَلَيۡهِ‌ۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ}
Surah al-Baqarah v37
When Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam took the Holy Prophet, Noor-e-Mujassam, Master of the Alam, of Creation, Mercy to the Universe, Mercy to Creation sallallahu alayhi wasallam as his Waseelah, as his intermediary, then the mercy of Allah was decreed for Adam alayhi salam. Adam alayhi salam resorted to the Holy Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam as a Waseelah, as a means of gaining closeness to Allah. So how did he know about this Waseelah, about the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam? Hadhrat Aadam alayhi salam put forward his request to Allah, saying ‘When I first looked up to Your ‘Arsh, to Your Throne, I saw this Kalimah ‘La ilaha illa’llah, Muhammadur-Rasoolullah’ inscribed everywhere, and I understood from this that there must be one great, honourable and dignified personality within Your Creation. The one whose name is written next to Yours must be that most honourable personality.’ SubhanAllah! He said ‘I understood then that my success will be via this person, via Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam.’ Allah ta’ala replied ‘He is the final Prophet, and he is from your children. And his honourable dignified name is Ahmad in the heavens and Muhammad on the earth. If he were not present, then the heavens and the earth would not have been created. I created you due to him and his blessings.’ Such are the virtues of Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam!
Hadhrat Gibreel alayhi salam said to the Holy Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam ‘Your Rabb has said: I made Ibrahim Khaleel, and I made you Habeeb; and you are the closest. There is no-one closer than you, and the world and the Universe were created for this purpose. Know that there is so much value, respect and honour in My closeness, and that if you did not exist, then the world would not exist.’ SubhanAllah! This is the glory and status of Nabi al-Kareem sallallahu alayhi wasallam. This is why success is attained via the intermediary of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. Allah ta’ala created Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam before Adam alayhi salam. Allah’s Nabi sallallahu alayhi wasallam states in an authentic Hadith: “إن الله تعالى خلق قبل الأشياء نور نبيك” – “Indeed Allah created my light before all other things in creation.” SubhanAllah - so the rest of creation was only made after the light of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam had been created. The souls, the ‘Arsh, the Kursi, the Tablet, the Pen, hell, Paradise, the angels, human beings, Jinn, the heavens, the earth, the wind, the climate – all of this creation came after, and it was all due to Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam. Via the medium of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam, and due to his Noor and his greatness, everything else was manifested.
Many statements have been made in this regard by Allah’s Nabi sallallahu alayhi wasallam. The pious predecessors have stated that the Noor of Nabi al-Kareem sallallahu alayhi wasallam was present before the ‘Arsh, the Throne, and the Kursi were created, SubhanAllah. Allah’s Nabi sallallahu alayhi wasallam stated ‘I was a Nabi when Adam was between a Ruh and a body.’ In another Hadith, Allah’s Nabi sallallahu alayhi wasallam said ‘I am the slave of Allah and the final Prophet, and I was present when Adam alayhi salam was not yet present physically, when Adam was between water and clay.’ The Muhadditheen have presented various narrations on this subject. In other words, such is the blessed and honourable status of the Holy Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam that all of creation is due to Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam.
After the Absolute created the light and truth of Muhammad from His illuminations,
Then, through the splendour of that light, He decorated the world.
His coming into being is like the command ‘Be!’
as if the earth and sky had instantly come into being.
Flowing rivers, mountain ranges, and waterfalls were formed,
and each particle was infused by his light.
This was his status, SubhanAllah!

The moonlight, the twinkling of the stars and the red sky on the horizon
The nights were made from his blessed locks, and the days were decorated with his illuminations.
The vibrant beauty of the flowers, the glow of the moon,
and the final few flickers of light from the stars at the end of the night
Allahu Akbar!
They are all dependent upon that light which was created on the first day!
SubhanAllah!
The cool north breeze came to life and began to hum,
and all the birds began to sing with passion.
‘May Allah’s blessings be upon him, and upon him be peace’
was taught to the whole world.
The galaxy was created, and bathed with an encompassing light,
and in the highest heaven there was a great commotion.
On the Night of Me’raj when he was called,
the sound of love began to play from the instrument of Truth.
Oh Asif, after listening to this Na’at, who can remain conscious?
Look around you - everything is absorbed!
As much as one tries, consciousness is not possible,
for it is the story of the Beloved of the world that is being told!
SubhanAllah, this is the glorious status of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam.
My brothers, Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam took the agency, the medium, the Waseelah of Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam, and Allah subhana wa ta'ala explained and demonstrated the great status of Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam. So what we see here, what we realise, is that Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam first saw the name of Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam written on the Arsh in the Kalimah, and it seems that Allah subhana wa ta'ala displayed his name at this time in order that this name would come into the mind of Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam, so that he would take the Waseelah of that name after his departure from Paradise, due to which Allah ta’ala would forgive him, SubhanAllah. It was the means by which the goal was to be achieved. So he said ‘When I saw the ‘Arsh for the first time, I saw Your name next to the name of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam on the doors of Paradise, and that is why I took the assistance of this name of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam for my forgiveness.’
As we have seen in these Hadith, the status and rank of Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam was established before Adam alayhi salam, when he wasn’t even present; and this is the reality of Muhammad, the reality of Ahmad sallallahu alayhi wasallam. So Adam alayhi salam and the children of Adam alayhi salam attained the path to forgiveness and to salvation, and shaytan’s work became hard. Before this, he had many plans and tricks and detailed schemes. He said ‘As soon as these human beings come onto the earth, they will be desperate and without assistance or help. Various problems will confront them in the world, and Allah ta’ala has made the Dunya filled with sins. And Allah ta’ala has prepared me and has given me a free rein to attack human beings from the right and left, from the front and behind; there is no place from where I cannot attack them. I will facilitate sin for them and I will be in their veins, running like blood. And another resource I have on top of this is their Nafs!’ So in other words, shaytan was confident; he had all the tools needed for success. He saw that human beings, Bani Adam, would be stuck. He said ‘It will be very easy for me. I will attack them and take them straight into the embers of hellfire; I will make them the fuel of the fire of hell. I will trap them so easily.’
But SubhanAllah, due to this Noor, and to the assistance of this Noor, Allah gave success to Bani Adam, to all the children of Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam. Allah subhana wa ta'ala prepared such a response to that wretched shaytan. Allah ta’ala gave such assistance by means of that Noor and through those Kalimaat and practices that were given to us, that even if a person continues to sin all life long, and his sins stack up into vast piles without any sin having not been committed, and he is close to death in his final moments, if he recites the Kalimah at that time, SubhanAllah, that Kalimah that Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam received via the Holy Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam, taking the means that he took, then Allah subhana wa ta'ala will forgive that person in this world. All the splendour and brilliance of this world draws on the means of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam – and this is the truth.
When Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam came physically, the real objective was this, that Allah ta’ala wanted to demonstrate the status of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam across the whole universe, because he is the Habeeb, the Beloved of Allah. Allah ta’ala said “إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ”- but what is the beauty and Husn of Allah? No one can comprehend that, but imagine the beauty of Allah’s Beloved, who was selected by Allah ta’ala! Imagine how handsome he was, how beautiful he was. To demonstrate his Husn, Allah subhana wa ta'ala created this Universe, saying, ‘Oh My Mehboob, your beauty shall be introduced into this Universe!’ This is like a person who has someone who is dear to them, whom they love, and the feeling comes into their heart that they would like to praise their beloved. So in reality, everything that Allah ta’ala did in creating Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam was not the real objective. The real objective was the introduction of Nabi al-Kareem sallallahu alayhi wasallam to every part of the Universe, so that his status and rank could be made known. And it is stated in Hadith that in the heavens his name is Ahmad, and in this world it is Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam. And this is the reality, the plain truth, that everything that was made in this world and in the Universe had just one purpose, namely that the glory and status of Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam should be introduced to the world and that he should be praised. ‘This is My Mehboob’ Allah ta’ala said.
Now of all that has been created, the greatest creation is the human being. And the greatest of human beings are the Prophets alayhimus Salam, and from Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam until Hadhrat Isa alayhi salam, all the prophets that came attained what they attained via the means and Waseelah of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam. The Universe was due to Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam, life was created due to Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam, Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam came into this world due to him and he attained his forgiveness due to him. So he, Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, was the fountain of Faidh and blessings and virtues. Whatever rank and status and knowledge any Nabi attained was via the means of Nabi al-Kareem sallallahu alayhi wasallam. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam is the total collection of brilliance and splendour and magnificence; he is the Jami’, the comprehensive seal and accumulation of brilliance. Just understand this: Allah ta’ala is the one who gives, but you receive via the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. The giving is from Allah, but you acquire via Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam. This is the Ruh of Tasawwuf, for he is the soul of the whole Universe.
Allah ta’ala created humankind and said that there was one purpose. Allah ta’ala created human beings in such a way that within them were placed the Lataaif, by which the virtues and blessings of Allah ta’ala’s splendour can be acquired. Allah ta’ala placed doors in our bodies and in our hearts to His brilliance and magnificence and splendour, which are the seven Lataaif via which Allah ta’ala’s Faidh and blessings come down into a person’s body. The Sifat, the attributes of Allah, the glory of Allah, the recognition of Allah, the knowledge of Allah – all of this comes via the Jami’, the comprehensive being of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. In other words, everything that Allah gives is acquired via the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. This is the story of the Universe – remember this point. So Allah ta’ala has put the levels, the Lataaif, inside of the bodies of Insan; these are different lessons, different points on which a person remembers Allah, and through which Allah’s blessings are acquired. Those who open those doors and learn the lessons on those Lataaif, they become the fountains of Allah’s Faidh via the Jami’, comprehensive brilliance of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam. Everything that is distributed to the Muslimeen is via that one, most honourable being, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. Whatever you acquire and whatever you receive will be via Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, via his Waasta, his medium, via his Waseelah, his means. All of the creation in the universe acquires success via the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam.
So we are only going to attain via Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam and his means. The only path is his, and we have seen that the forgiveness of Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam was attained due to this. Allah ta’ala showed and demonstrated all of this, so how can a person forget that we are sat on this earth due to the means of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam? So my brothers, we need to think to ourselves: with whom should we make a connection so that we can succeed? There is only one personality through which we can attain Allah’s nearness – and who is that? Nabi al-Kareem, the gracious and generous Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. We need the connection with him. This is the lesson from all these events, and we can learn from this in every sphere. There is only one path, which is the way of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. The more a person strengthens his connection with him, the more he strengthens his relationship with Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, alhamdulillah, the closer that individual can get to Allah and he will arrive at his destination. If he doesn’t get close to Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam, he cannot attain anything. Whatever we achieve will be via our connection with Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam. The more a person strengthens and establishes his connection with Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam, he will succeed more and more as a consequence.
Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam himself told us the method to strengthen this relationship, and Allah ta’ala has mentioned this is the Qur’an: {قُلۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى يُحۡبِبۡكُمُ ٱللَّهُ }. There is no greater announcement than this in the Qur’an - our eyes should pop wide open. Allah has said: ‘Oh My beloved, you tell the people yourself with your blessed statement, and explain to them in your own words. Allah says {قُلۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ } – ‘Tell them, oh Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, that if these people, these human beings, want Allah’s nearness and Qurb, there is only one way.’ All the A’mal that Allah ta’ala has given us are the way; they are the path, whether it be Salah, fasting, Hajj, Umrah - they are all Waseelah; Allah’s Dhikr is Waseelah, reciting Qur’an is Waseelah – all the good, pious deeds are Waseelah, ways to take us to Allah. Allah says {قُلۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ }- ‘Oh Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, announce to the Universe that you are the means. There is only one way, one path through which human beings can come to My nearness. And what is that Waseelah? { فَٱتَّبِعُونِى} Tell them to follow you, to obey you. Follow and imitate My Habeeb sallallahu alayhi wasallam– follow his Sunnah, embrace his Sunnah. { فَٱتَّبِعُونِى}’ What does { فَٱتَّبِعُونِى} mean? To obey, to follow the Sunnah.
In other words, all the deeds that Allah ta’ala has sent to us and given to us, all the Waseelahs and ways and paths and practices, these can only be accepted if they come under the umbrella of obeying Rasoolulah sallallahu alayhi wasallam. { قُلۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ } Allah is saying ‘Whatever action you do in order to get My nearness – Salah, fasting, Zakah, Hajj, charity – if it is done in the way of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, in his style, his manner, his mode of practice, the way he did it, then I will accept it!’ { فَٱتَّبِعُونِى} The main point that Allah ta’ala has made in the Qur’an is just one: { فَٱتَّبِعُونِى} – ‘Obey and imitate My Habeeb sallallahu alayhi wasallam.’
Allah ta’ala has said that there is only one way, and Allah Nabi sallallahu alayhi wasallam has also said this: “مَنْ أَحْيَا سُنَّتِي فَقَدْ أَحَبَّنِي” – ‘If you want to strengthen your relationship with me and your connection with me, then there is only one way – you have to obey me and follow my Sunnah.’ We have to keep revising this lesson again and again and make it as strong as possible. That’s it. This is the main, central path of life, namely, to strengthen our relationship with the Master of the Two Worlds sallallahu alayhi wasallam. Our relationship with him should be so strong that there is no limit to the extent of that strength, and Allah ta’ala has given us the route, the path and the way to strengthen our relationship with him. What is that? It is the following and obeying of his Sunnah. This is the system of life and the cycle of life. As long as we live in this world, if we want to attain success, there is only one condition and one criterion: our connection to Nabi al-Kareem sallallahu alayhi wasallam has to be strong because all Faidh and Barakah and mercies and blessings will come via the Waseelah of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam. And his Waseelah will only give us success when our relationship with him is strong. And how can we strengthen our relationship with him? There is only one Tariqah, one method. Now the envelope has been opened, the box has been unwrapped. Allah has said ‘I only made the Universe for one reason, that you imitate My Habeeb sallallahu alayhi wasallam and do his Naql. Then you will be successful and Jannah will be waiting for you!’
That’s it! That’s the objective of life. From A to Z, there is no other objective of life. Allah is telling us ‘I created you for this. You have only one action in life, from birth to death: follow My Habeeb sallallahu alayhi wasallam and imitate him.’ End of story. No second action for you to do in life, nothing at all. Every action of the Sunnah is ‘Ibadah, and every other action will be rejected, and it doesn’t matter if you consider it to be a huge act of piety and worship. You can consider it to be prayer, but if it is not according to the Sunnah, then it is rejected. So the fountain of acceptance and success, the centre point of life and existence, and the purpose of life is the following of Nabi al-Kareem sallallahu alayhi wasallam. Everything comes within that – everything. So the secret has been opened up now; the knot has been unraveled. After Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam took that Waasta, the medium of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, the reality became clear that his children would have to follow this path as well.
Now the wretched shaytan came to this world with all his plots and tricks and game plans, saying ‘I will distract them from in front, from behind, from above, from below, from the right, from the left. I will deviate mankind with all my energy and tools and tricks.’ And Nafs was also given to him to assist him. Allah said ‘Here, take Nafs as well!’ And in addition, Insaan was thrown into a huge net, the net of the dirty, impure world, in which every footstep we tread leads us to disobedience and places of wrongdoing. How can we be saved from all of this? There is only one way: following the Sunnah and obedience to the Rasool sallallahu alayhi wasallam. This is the one way to be saved.
Now at first, before the Sunnah came, shaytan thought it would be very easy for him. He thought ‘I have all the tools and the methods, so I will deviate these human beings every second and fill up Jahannam with them. They have got nothing to beat me with because I have got all the strength under the sun. They have got nothing they can use to fight me off.’ So when Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam took the Waasta and Waseelah of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, the means of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, the path of the assistance of Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam, then Allah ta’ala cancelled and annulled this game plan of shaytan. { فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَـٰتٍ۬} Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave a tremendous gift to Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam and his children - the greatest gift. { فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَـٰتٍ۬ فَتَابَ عَلَيۡهِ} SubhanAllah! ‘Let him try as much as he wants to deviate you from the path through sin. Shaytan will work hard, so hard that he will get fed up once he sees that I have guided Bani Adam. Oh Bani Adam, you will have to do just one action: { فَتَابَ عَلَيۡه}.’ Allah said to Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam ‘Just do this one action { فَتَابَ عَلَيۡه} – immediately do Tawbah to Allah, repent to Allah.’ And the Kalimaat were given. { فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَـٰتٍ۬ فَتَابَ عَلَيۡه} Allah ta’ala explained the method of Tawbah to Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam.
Shaytan is nothing at all in front of you. His whole mission will fail. He can work hard and try all life long, but if the servant of Allah at the end of his life says ‘Oh Allah, forgive me’, Allah says ‘I will not just give you forgiveness, but I will transform all your sins into good deeds!’ What a big slap in the face of shaytan – imagine this. How great a resource Allah ta’ala has given to Bani Adam in the form of the means and assistance of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam. All of shaytan’s planning and tricks failed, so he said ‘What can I do now? That’s it, I’ve failed! I have worked so hard to gather them and make them commit crimes and sins, and they just have to ask Allah once for forgiveness and all of their sins are forgiven - so all of my effort will be wasted.’
So shaytan then devised a new trick. My brothers, listen to this new trick that shaytan came up with, for it is very dangerous and is the biggest Fitnah and challenge in the world today. May Allah save us from ignorance of this trial and tribulation. So shaytan realized what had happened and said ‘So this is the situation now, that whatever success human beings can attain in the world is via the means and the practice of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam. He is the Waasta, the medium, and he is the means to a successful relationship between the servant of Allah and their Creator Allah subhana wa ta'ala.’ He understood this and said ‘This following of the Rasool sallallahu alayhi wasallam is their biggest source of success; they will attain everything via his imitation.’ So he then made this the focus of his game plan. He left all the other sins in favour of this one sin. He said ‘What I will do is control the Muslimeen by not allowing them to follow the Sunnah. I will prevent them from implementing the Sunnah of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam. I have no other game plan, no other trick, no other net; via this method I will deviate them.’
So this is the principle, the universal law of Allah. The Universe was made due to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam, and whoever attains success will do so by imitating the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. So what did shaytan do? He threw a net across the world saying ‘I don’t want them to have the Tawfeeq to implement the Sunnah or adhere to the Sunnah or follow the Sunnah. I will demote and degrade the Sunnah in their eyes and brains.’ This is the biggest mission of shaytan, and we are seeing the effects of that today with our own eyes. What he did was to gather tools and weapons together and he created conditions in the world around us to achieve his goal – and we see this with our own eyes. He gets us to do many deeds of worship like praying Salah, and he encourages us to acts of piety, but always in a way that is against the Sunnah practice. Whatever worship we do won’t be in the way of the Sunnah. He will degrade the Sunnah in our eyes and will make following the Sunnah the hardest thing for our minds to contemplate. ‘Oh no, it is too difficult to do this. We can’t do this; it is too difficult to do this’ – he will drop this thought in our minds. This is the biggest Fitnah today, the biggest test and challenge for the Ummah today. The greatest Fitnah and Fasaad and disarray in the world today is that a man can do everything in Islam under the sun, but he cannot obey the Sunnah - neither the woman nor the man.
This is such a big Fasaad from shaytan. He makes us do deeds and makes us believe that those deeds and practice we are doing is totally fine. We say to ourselves ‘I am doing such deeds of piety! How can I not be an Ashiq of Allah? How can I not be a lover of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam? How can I not be forgiven? I am automatically forgiven – I have done everything. I am pious! I recite Nasheeds and poems, I go on marches, I go to big conferences and gatherings.’ We become satisfied with this, all of us. ‘Oh, you don’t need to follow the Sunnah. You are a lover of the Deen – you are doing everything that you can.’
It is so sad and painful for me to hear Nasheeds praising the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam with music in the background and the banging of drums. Musical instruments are being strummed and beards are shaved and people are bopping up and down in the gathering. Not even two percent of the people present have the style of the Sunnah visible on their bodies. Never mind their internal state, externally you cannot see any following of the Sunnah and Shari’ah. And everyone thinks ‘I am a true lover; I am following the Deen; I will be forgiven and intercession will be made for me.’ And they rely on verses of famous Nasheeds and poems of big Sufis who, mashaAllah, lived their lives fully in accordance with the Deen of Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam. They think that by reciting their Nasheeds, they will attain intercession. They try to force-fit these beautiful couplets and poems of the pious predecessors into their own lives. They say ‘No, its ok, if I sin, it’s just a small sin. I will receive the intercession of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam. We will keep on knocking at his door and reciting his Nasheed. I am this, I am that – these sins are insignificant. I will go to the Holy Fence at the Rawdah Mubarak and put the dust of Madina on my forehead!’ They will do this and that, but they are not prepared to follow and obey the Sunnah of Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam. They are not prepared to do that.
And those pious predecessors, the Sufi Hadhraat, whose Nasheeds they try to force-fit onto their own lives, would do ‘Ibadah all night long, where they would do Astaghfar and repent to Allah. Not a second of the lives of those pious predecessors was against the Sunnah, and only then did they write those couplets and verses and Nasheeds. Do we really think that today, if we just recite those verses, we will be forgiven automatically without doing any Amal? Look at the lives of the pious predecessors. Today, we say ‘I am reciting the same Nasheeds so I will be forgiven’ – but look at those Walis of Allah and the Salaf! Look at the pain and difficulty they endured in their lives, and then you go trying to force-fit their verses into your lives. This is shaytan’s deception. Those Walis of Allah, the pious predecessors, presented the emotions of their hearts in the verses and Nasheeds and poems that they wrote. That was for them; their words reflected their lives and were compatible with their lives. There were no aspects of their lives against the Sunnah, and only when that stage was reached did they write down those verses, saying ‘Oh Prophet of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam, we love your way and your life, and we want your Shifa! You are ours and we love you and cannot leave you!’ These words came onto their tongues after they struggled and worked hard in their lives. But we have no Sunnah and Deen in our giving, our taking, our face, our appearance, and then we try to force-fit those verses into our lives, saying ‘This sheikh said this, and this sheikh recited this’, and then we start reciting those verses and think that we are forgiven automatically! SubhanAllah. Do you think that your Deen and your life compares to the life of that pious elder verses whose verses you are reciting? Look at the massive difference between our lives and theirs.
So in this day and age, shaytan is very successful indeed. He is so successful – he is motoring along very fast these days. People say ‘I will do this action and that action’, but they have no engagement with the Sunnah in any part of their lives, internally or externally. They say ‘No, no, I have got Sabr and I am an Ashiq and I listen to Naats and Nasheeds and this is enough for us’ - but we have seen now that they are not accepting either the Qur’an or the Hadith. This is a big Fitnah in this day and age. People who do not physically implement Islam or physically implement the Sunnah say that they will obtain the Waseelah of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, and that they will receive his intercession and will be forgiven. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam said ‘It has been made Wajib for my Qawm, for my Ummah, to practice upon the Qur’an.’ Previous nations would say ‘Oh no, it’s ok, leave this part.’ And today we say we have not left anything, while in our houses there are Qur’ans on our shelves, and we have translations of the Qur’an and Tafseers to listen to, alongside huge screens on the wall and on the table, those receptacles of immodesty that are in our homes. And we can see that our lifestyle and appearance is like that of strangers, a different culture, and we have no knowledge of the Amal of the Deen, no knowledge at all.
We have Qur’ans in our homes, on our bookshelves, in our Masjids and even in our hearts – but what is the Qur’an saying? Allah is saying ‘Why have you left Me? Why have you discarded Me?’ We have everything, the physical Qur’an and the Qur’an in our hearts, but there is no practice on the Qur’an. This is the complaint that the Qur’an will make. The Qur’an will make this complaint: ‘Oh Allah, they didn’t practice me! They didn’t follow me in even one practice. None of their deeds were in accordance to the Qur’an.’ The Qur’an says { قُلۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى} – so why has this verse been hidden today? Why has shaytan deceived us and made us cover up this verse now? The Qur’an says { فَٱتَّبِعُونِى}, and they say ‘No, no, we don’t need to do this; we are forgiven.’ Why? Because we follow shaytan’s plot. In that Hadith “مَنْ أَحْيَا سُنَّتِي فَقَدْ أَحَبَّنِي” Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam is saying ‘I am only with that person who implements, adheres to and loves my Sunnah.’ How can we cover this up and sweep this under the carpet? How can we just make this vanish from the Deen? Is it just about gatherings and Nawaful and praying and worshipping? Is this the way to success? How come they have hidden the Qur’an? The Qur’an itself will complain. Where are the words of the Qur’an and its straightforward direction? How can these people reject this and remove it from the Qur’an?
In other words, we have left the Qur’an today; we don’t practice the Qur’an. The Qur’an itself will make this complaint. I always say this to you: all knowledge is based upon the Sunnah. If there is no Amal on the Sunnah in your life, and no Tariqa of the Sunnah, then none of your deeds will be accepted in the Hereafter. Nothing at all. We must strengthen and revise this Aqeedah, my brothers. Revise this conviction, renew this conviction or shaytan will beat us; he will win. Remember this and revise this point of faith.
Shaytan has taken hold of the other means that will take us into Jannah. He knows that we have got the tool of Tawbah. He knows that Tawbah will destroy him, so he has adopted a new strategy, saying ‘I will take them away from Amal on the Sunnah- no lifestyle, no appearance, no method, no eating, no drinking, standing, sitting, waking, travelling – nothing at all. I will take them away from the Amal of the Sunnah and they will claim that they are the Ashiqs of Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam.’ The Qur’an bears witness that this cannot be – it is impossible. The Hadith tells us in detail, the ‘Ulema tell us. The pious predecessors tell us, so how can we force-fit their verses into our lives when we don’t even implement that method?
Allah subhana wa ta'ala has prepared the whole system and cycle of life for the Muslimeen. We need to analyse and compare our condition and our situation. How are we living? How do we perform our deeds? Is our practice of life in accordance to the Sunnah? Qur’an, Fiqh, Salah – if everything is in accordance to the Sunnah of Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam it will be accepted; otherwise, nothing is accepted in the Court of Allah. Nothing. Allah has prepared rewards for this. Imam Malik, Imam Shafi’i, Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal and the greatest Imam, Imam Abu Hanifa rahmatullah alayhim – Allah ta’ala created great Imams, and they disseminated the knowledge of the Deen. And then, regarding the Awliya, the Walis of Allah:{ فَسۡـَٔلُوٓاْ أَهۡلَ ٱلذِّكۡرِ إِن كُنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ} – Allah says ‘If you don’t have knowledge, if you have doubts, if your deeds are against the Shari'ah and Sunnah, then go to these rightly guided people and ask them.’ Ask the jurists, ask the Friends of Allah, because Allah ta’ala enlightens the hearts of His Friends with the light and the knowledge and the path of the Deen. They know right from left because Allah has given them Noor and inspiration. If you ask them, they will tell you the straight path, the right path. They will take away your confusion, SubhanAllah.
So this is the biggest lesson, the biggest message that comes via Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam, a message that Allah ta’ala gave before he even came to this world - a comprehensive message for us. { فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ} - Allah ta’ala has taught this Kalimah. What Kalimah was this? Allah ta’ala taught this Kalimah, the verse by which Tawbah will be accepted.
{ رَبَّنَا ظَلَمۡنَآ أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمۡ تَغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَتَرۡحَمۡنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِين}
SubhanAllah – this is the Kalimah, the verse of Tawbah. What a great gift Allah ta’ala has given! There will be sins, but Allah ta’ala says ‘No problem – shaytan is against you and is influencing you; Dunya is a challenge and an attraction; your desires are with you and Nafs is with you; there are challenges from all four corners around you. If you do Zina, the cure is the Sunnah; if you steal, the cure is the Sunnah – and what does Sunnah mean? Tawbah, repentance.’ The Sunnah of Nabi al-Kareem sallallahu alayhi wasallam is Tawbah, repentance. Imitating him and practicing his way teaches us that if you commit a sin, what should you do? Do Tawbah; repent in the Court of Allah.
{ رَبَّنَا ظَلَمۡنَآ أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمۡ تَغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَتَرۡحَمۡنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِينَ} Look what a beautiful Kalimah Allah ta’ala has given to us - what a great verse, so beautiful; what a fantastic verse! { فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَـٰتٍ۬} Allah ta’ala gave this Kalimah when Allah ta’ala gave the means of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. This was the first gift that Allah ta’ala gave to Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam and to the Ummah.
Time is short, so inshaAllah we will complete the discussion about this Kalimah tomorrow and understand what this Kalimah and verse means, and what the message in this Kalimah is that Allah ta’ala has given to us. { فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَـٰتٍ۬ فَتَابَ عَلَيۡهِ} What are those words, and what were the words of Revelation that Allah ta’ala gave when He relented towards Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam, and what are the rewards of those Kalimaat, and what are the treasures within this? What is Tawbah and what is repentance? InshaAllah, if life remains and Allah ta’ala gives Tawfeeq, and if Iman is there by the Fadhl and Grace of Allah ta’ala, then inshaAllah, with Allah’s permission, we will discuss these Kalimaat. { فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَـٰتٍ۬ فَتَابَ عَلَيۡهِ}
And the most important point from today’s Dars was the Waseelah of Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam, the means to his success and forgiveness. We have discussed this point, and that is the summary of today’s talk, the essence of it, namely that the Waseelah of Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam, the means of his success and forgiveness after all his years of distress was what? Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam attained salvation, and Allah ta’ala opened the doors of His Mercy in the form of Tawbah not just for him but for all of his children, for all of Bani Adam. And to defeat shaytan, to give him a slap in the face with full force and vigour so that he cannot do anything to affect us, what did Allah give? The essence of today’s discussion revolves around that Waasta, that Waseelah, that means, and how strong our relationship should be with that, because the Universe was initiated due to this Waasta, due to Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam. If this was not the case, we couldn’t have come into this world; there would be nothing for us here. Due to Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, the world was initiated and the Universe was initiated – this was due to the means of the Holy Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam.
And we discussed in depth that if we strengthen our relationship with Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, then we will be successful. The Qur’an and the Hadith have told us the way to keep that strong: there is only one way to keep your relationship with Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam strong and well-established, due to which Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam attained Tawbah, which means we must live our lives according to that. Allah ta’ala hasn’t kept this behind a veil or curtains, rather it has been stated repeatedly in the Qur’an in numerous places, as well as in Hadith, and also in the practical example in front of us in the form of the greatest generation of human beings, who were successful only because they maintained this strong relationship with the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam. And what was the action that strengthens and maintains this relationship? Following and obeying the Sunnah, and nothing else.
So we have discussed what flows from the means and the Waseelah of the Sunnah. We need to learn and remember this lesson, that the first and last secret of success in this Universe and the world is that we need to strengthen our connection with Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam, and that is achieved via imitation and implementation of the Sunnah Sharifah. Only then can we hope for success.
{ فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَـٰتٍ۬ فَتَابَ عَلَيۡهِ} Next we will see what the Kalimaat were that Allah ta’ala gave to Hadhrat Adam alayhi salam due to Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, and what our link is with that, and how we should implement it, and what the gift that Allah ta’ala gave us is, and how we should recite those Kalimaat and bring them into our lives in this world. We shall discuss this again inshaAllah.

Can you have bayt from 2 different Shaykh? If you are bayt from one Shaykh, can you leave them and do bayt with another one? Are there any conditions for this?
