Shaikh is like well, giving blessings, but mureeds get different amounts - based on intention. The more sincere, the more the benefit. Not by amount of dhikr or amount of effort.
Example of 3 students - one died as kafir, another as sinner, the last as a great pious person. Same Sheikh, same khanqah, but different outcomes. Why?
1) First one was alim, intention wasn't islah, but to criticise Sheikh. Happens now - criticise their Hadhrat, when Allah's nearness can be attained. But this person did be-adabi, lost iman.
2) Second one was rich, intention to pay for everything, so would be appreciated by Sheikh, become deputy etc. Also happens now. False Sheikhs who run after money, don't criticise money-givers. Also devoid of iman
Control your heart when going to a friend of Allah. They know your state. Intention should be pure, sincere, otherwise you'll get nothing from well, even if there for whole life
Third person had clear intention. A very rare person. Given everything from his Sheikh. Angels testified. Knows his Sheikh would give him everything. Annialated his nafs and sacrificed all his time for khitmat of khanqah and his Sheikh.
In dunya, intentions vary. You can't tell what's behind someone. Hidden. Has someone come to help you, trick you etc. But for maarifat, Allah's friends, Allah won't let you get away with bad intention. Khanqah and shaikh is means for Allah's nearness - don't play games. He won't sort you out if you mess about with him, but Allah will.
Tasawwuf is very easy path. Not about effort, but pure niyyat, intention. Show love for your teacher
