To get close to Allah and His Rasool (saws), have goodness rain down on you in dunya, complete your deen - how? Follow the sunnah. Shaitan ruins this by taking it away from us, say not necessary. See today, sunnah mocked and belittled. That's why there's fitnah, punishment on ummah. Amal in sunnah way is so elevated. Should sleep, drink, dress, go toilet etc in sunnah. Like you have blueprint for clothes, have one for deeds - sunnah way. If follow sunnah, then if lose money etc, don't fear, not lose, Allah will provide for you.
There's one sin today that is common - gazing at opposite sex. Doesn't matter you pray, you're a criminal if you do this. And we have this in our pockets now, pictures, phones etc. This is a poisonous arrow from shaitan - kills your iman. Easy to do hajj, Qur'an, fast, but hard to leave this. Zina of eyes - molten leads poured into your eyes. Even women do this, through their niqab, men with beards do this. Do this, your face will be disfigured.
How do we leave this? Follow sunnah, which is that when you walk about outside, don't look around, focus on where you're going. Do this, more important than your nawafil ibadat, make Allah's help descend, protect your iman, barakat of this sunnah will make you hate this sin. Will give barakat in your ibadat, taste of iman. Eliminate this root cause of all your spiritual issues. It's the main method shaitan uses to lead you to sin. Leave it and you will have true love of Allah and His Rasool (saws). You'll go from a thief to a pious person.
