Nowadays, we have very tall buildings. The reason they are possible is their strong foundation. The stronger the foundation, the higher the building can be. Without it, the building, however beautiful it is, however strong it is, will collapse with a gust a wind.

In the famous Hadith Jibreel, we are told about Iman (aqaeed), Islam (amaal) and Ihsan. This is the building of Islam. The foundation of it is the heart. The stronger it is, the higher our deen can be. Many of us have beautiful buildings, but they collapse when we have some trials or tests in life - we stop following Allah. We only do amal in the good times. In bad times, we leave salaah etc. This is not the way to live life. How about the big test of death? Why do we collapse? Weak foundations.

Before increasing the number of floors of our building, we must strengthen the foundation, the heart - Dhikrullah. Rasoolullah (saws) said that when the heart is strong, the whole body of Deen will be strong.

The difference between those that do dhikr regularly and those that don't is massive. The latter's buildings might be taller, but they collapse easily, and they sin. Just like the builder puts massive effort in the foundations, we must focus on that first, not the height of our building, ie amount of amal.

Why will the Sahaabah get more reward for less amal? Better foundation.

How do we know when our foundation is strong enough? When we accept all the laws of Allah. When we don't feel like sinning. THAT is the purpose of Dhikr. Nothing else. We just be checking if our Dhikr is changing our lives towards the Quran and sunnah. We need to keep digging this foundation.

Allah says do Dhikr in abundance, it means there's no limit to the strength of the foundation. There's no limit to the heights we can reach. And when we do, it takes us a lot longer to go towards haram, and we feel it if we do.

If you do Dhikr of the heart from a Sheikh - every part in your body does Dhikr, every hair, every one of the trillions of cells you have, which are constantly regenerating, and you get rewards for each and every one.
