We often focus our efforts on making a lot of such deeds (such as nafl fast/salaah,or Hajj after Hajj l, but on the day of judgement it will be the WEIGHT of our deeds that will count, not the NUMBER of them. The issue today is that many of us have many deeds, but they are practically weightless. Why? They are tinged with ria and hypocrisy. For example, we like it when people discover we're doing extra ibaadat. Our intention is impure. We should be keeping such deeds hidden. For example, if you're doing a nafl fast, there's no need to break it straight away in front of people.
So, how do we make our deeds pure and weighty. The fishmonger sprays water on the fish to add weight, so there is deed to "spray" on our other deeds to achieve this affect - the dhikr of Allah. This deed is so great that it is even excepted when done with ria. And it is very, very weighty, despite being so easy to do. For example, one Hadeeth states that even saying subhanallah is greater in weight to the blessed mountain of Uhud. This deed will make you friends with Allah, so he will help you in your fight against shaitaan and make do deeds easy.
The supreme way of Dhikr is in the company of a friend of Allah. If such an opportunity exists, and you don't take advantage of them, you are most foolish.
