Today's Bayan

Allah ta'ala has granted us the great treasure of Imaan without any effort. Imaan came to us automatically, although Imaan alone is not sufficient. A person must perform righteous deeds alongside possessing Imaan. Good deeds are compulsory for a person's success in the Hereafter.

There are two types of good deeds. One is to perform good deeds, and the other is to abstain from forbidden deeds. If we only engage in worship and do not work on abstaining from evil, then the benefit of our worship will be diminished.

We place a great deal of emphasis on fulfilling the faraa'id and then even voluntary actions on top of them, despite the fact that we will not even be questioned regarding voluntary deeds. However, we do not focus on abstaining from sins, and this is how our good deeds are wasted.

In the Hereafter, we will be questioned about the sins we committed. Therefore, instead of placing excessive emphasis on extra prayers, we should focus on abandoning sins.

Shaytan has deceived us into thinking that our worship alone suffices for us and that Allah ta'ala will forgive our misdeeds in return. The Prophet ﷺ came to this world to perfect our character and not merely to teach us voluntary acts of worship.

We should continuously assess whether we have abstained from sins from one prayer to the next.

Why do we commit wrongdoing? The reason we commit sins is because our hearts have become hardened. There are some who embrace and accept the commands of Allah ta'ala immediately because they possess good hearts. This is the heart of a perfect believer who does not abandon his prayer.

There are others whose hearts have become hardened, but if they strive and visit a spiritual physician, they can very quickly transform into great individuals because their hearts will have been cured.

What is the cure?

To visit the AwliyahAllah. They provide the cure.

A person who believes in Allah ta'ala but fails to pray is spiritually sick. Such a person is not weak in faith; rather, he is ill and in need of a cure.

If we do not attain the cure, then the sickness within us will increase and develop into a dangerous condition. It will continue to grow until a person may eventually not die with Imaan. He may die as a hypocrite.

He who imitates the Sunnah will be loved by Nabi ﷺ.

It is a shame that this reality does not impact us, yet we are quick to imitate Western ways.

If we are unsure whether we are exempt from praying in congregation, then we should consult reliable scholars.

Allah ta'ala has enjoined prayer upon us, and it is not a burden. Allah ta'ala has not prescribed any act of worship that we cannot easily implement. Allah ta'ala has given us the strength and capability to perform all prayers, including Fajr.

If a person is negligent and lazy regarding good deeds, then he is acting contrary to his capability. This indicates that he is spiritually sick. If we are sick, we should be concerned and seek the cure for our disease.

To leave one prayer in congregation results in fifteen punishments. It is a shame that we no longer possess this fear.

Every good deed has a positive impact upon the heart and brings tranquillity. Every good deed causes the heart to rejoice, and when the heart rejoices, the entire body feels pleased and light.

Everything in our lives is dependent upon our hearts.

The Aalim who is concerned about his own rectification and submits himself to a WaliAllah in order to improve himself is a true Aalim.

When a scholar graduates, he should concern himself with improving himself through his knowledge before teaching and educating others.

A student should approach a WaliAllah to improve himself and not with the intention of becoming a WaliAllah himself or hosting dhikr gatherings. If he possesses such an intention, then he is foolish and will be ruined in this world.

Similarly, a scholar of Deen should seek knowledge in order to improve himself, learn about Allah ta'ala, increase his fear of Allah ta'ala, and strengthen his desire to practise Deen. The scholar whose primary goal is merely to deliver speeches is following his own desires. A true scholar recognises his own defects.

The example of Hadhrat Mufti Shafee رحمة الله عليه is often mentioned. Upon the graduation of his two sons, Mufti Taqi Usmani and Mufti Rafi Usmani رحمة الله عليهم, he sent them to Hadhrat Sheikh Dr Abdul Hayy Aarifi رحمة الله عليه, who was not an Aalim, solely for the purpose of spiritual rectification.

A scholar should first strive to purify and rectify his heart. Not every scholar is fit to propagate Deen. If a person uses his scholarly status merely to become a Mawlana in a mosque and earn money, then this is incorrect.

The true believer considers himself inferior to others.

Those who fail to embrace the commands of the Qur'an and Sunnah and disregard the advice of the pious are weak in practising Deen because their hearts have become dark and hardened. Their hearts are harder than mountains.

Such people will not feel inclined towards reciting the Qur'an. They may recite it, but they will not experience enjoyment. They may worship solely for the sake of reward.

If we make an intention to improve ourselves today, on the Day of Arafah, then the entire year that follows will pass smoothly for us.

It is mentioned in the Ahadith that on the Day of Arafah, Allah ta'ala extends His mercy upon the believers and forgives those who possess Imaan in their hearts.

It is inevitable that we will fall into sin; however, we should at least run towards the cure and adopt it.

We should assess whether we possess love for Deen or love for dunya. We should identify our defects and sins and acknowledge our shortcomings.

We all possess different defects, and among scholars the common diseases are ostentation and pride.

Nabi ﷺ said:

"Do not indulge in excessive talk except when remembering Allah. Excessive talking without the Remembrance of Allah hardens the heart; and those who are the farthest from Allah are those whose hearts are hard." [Tirmidhi Shareef]

Speak less in your life and engage in more dhikr, for this is the cure. Excessive speech hardens the heart, whereas dhikr softens and tenderises it.

Those whose hearts are hardened will not accept the cure. They may listen to many lectures and pieces of advice, yet their hearts remain unchanged.

However, if a person adopts the cure, his heart will be rectified.

Speaking excessively without necessity causes problems and destruction. We should speak only when necessary and when our speech will benefit us in this world and the Hereafter.

If we desire success and Paradise in the Hereafter, then we must engage abundantly in dhikr in this world, particularly the dhikr of the heart.

When the dhikr of the heart is learnt from a Sheikh who is authorised to teach dhikr, the heart continues remembering Allah ta'ala constantly without even the use of a tasbih.

To learn this, we must visit the WaliAllah who will revive our hearts and train them to remember Allah ta'ala with every passing moment.

When we remember Allah ta'ala in gatherings morning and evening, our hearts become purified. When we become lazy and begin making excuses, it is a sign that Shaytan has overcome us.

Whenever laziness towards dhikr affects us, we should increase our dhikr even further.

We should make a firm intention to rectify our hearts through dhikr; otherwise, our hearts will not be purified.

We should love those who engage in dhikr and spend time in their company, for there is immense benefit in this.

The AwliyahAllah are the keys to Paradise. They unlock hearts and introduce people to Allah ta'ala. Merely gazing upon a WaliAllah can develop the fear of Allah ta'ala in a person's heart, causing him to abandon sins thereafter.

Shaytan will attempt to prevent you from visiting a WaliAllah and will place doubts within your mind. You should remove such thoughts, for dhikr is among the greatest cures, and its benefits are clearly visible around us.

Those who do not perform dhikr have jinn in their hearts, and these jinn influence them and their children towards wrongdoing, causing conflict within their homes. They become a means of immodesty.

Physical illnesses are caused by jinn entering people, and they can never be removed without dhikr.

Not having children is also a sign of the displeasure of Allah ta'ala.

May Allah ta'ala grant us the ability to implement these precious pearls of wisdom. Aameen.
