A Blessed Ending

The true success of a human being is based on the condition of his death: that he leaves this world with Imaan and having earned the pleasure of Allah ta'ala. Such a person has attained true success in life.

A person experiences happiness when he fulfils his worldly goals and responsibilities in a permissible manner. However, the greatest happiness is that a person departs from this world in a successful state and is welcomed by the angels.

Our duty in this world is to live according to the pleasure of Allah ta'ala. We may face temporary difficulties in this life, but there is everlasting ease and reward in the Hereafter, which will make us forget the trials and hardships of this world.

The circumstances we face in life are constantly changing, and they affect us in different ways. This is why a person cannot simply pray and worship and expect to die in that state, because our conditions continuously change and we are confronted by different environments and situations. There are many distractions that divert us from our purpose, such as our phones and worldly engagements.

Thus, we will die in the way that we lived. The final moments of our life are a summary of how we lived in this world — the essence of our existence.

If we wish for a beautiful conclusion to our lives, then in every moment we should keep ourselves connected to good deeds, so that when death comes, we are engaged in righteousness. Otherwise, there is no guarantee that we will die in a good state. We may be sinning, arguing with someone, or trapped in some worldly problem at that time.

If we make it our aim to remain engaged in good deeds at all times, then certainly when death comes, we will be in that state. Consequently, we will die in that condition and receive a blessed outcome.

How can a person perform good deeds in every passing moment?

We have restricted good deeds to prayer, fasting, and the recitation of the Qur’an. In reality, the way to remain constantly in a state of good deeds is to perform every action for the sake of Allah ta'ala.

What is a good deed?
Any deed — whether related to business, family, or daily life — can become a good deed without disturbing or imbalancing one’s life.

To ensure that all our actions become righteous deeds, the first condition is to have faith. After faith, a person should have the intention that he is performing that deed solely for the sake of Allah ta'ala. If a person does this, then he will attain success in both Deen and Dunya.
A person may run his business according to the laws of Shariah and consider it worship. However, even acts of worship are only regarded as true worship when they are performed solely for the sake of Allah ta'ala.

It is essential that a deed is performed purely for the sake of Allah ta'ala and to earn His pleasure — not even primarily for the sake of reward. A person will receive reward in the process regardless, but that should not be his main intention.

In reality, a person marries to fulfil his desires and needs. However, even in marriage, a person should have the intention to marry for the pleasure of Allah ta'ala.

How does one marry for the pleasure of Allah ta'ala?
Generally, when selecting a spouse, a person prioritises beauty. Others seek wealth or a good profession. The third thing people often seek is status or noble lineage. The fourth criterion is the Deen of the suitor.

In Ahadith, it is mentioned that the person who marries for beauty has imitated the Christians, because that is what they used to prioritise. He will face similar problems, and both he and his children will be brought up under those influences.

The person who marries for wealth has followed the style of the Jews. When wealth is the priority, the whole framework of life revolves around wealth, success, and power.

The person who marries for lineage has imitated the way of the Hindus. He will adopt that culture and way of thinking in his life. Whatever we prioritise, we will be tested through it in life. Those who are looking for spouses should take heed.

We should prioritise Deen when seeking a spouse. Whoever marries for the sake of Deen, even if the woman is a divorcee, Allah ta'ala will make him successful and keep him firm upon Deen. His life will become prosperous.

If a person desires a good ending, then he should constantly involve himself in good deeds, because death can come at any moment.

Our purpose in life is to remain engaged in good deeds continuously. Not even a second of life should be empty of it.

Even if we are engaged in worldly matters, we should intend them for the sake of Allah ta'ala.
It is very common for couples to be constantly fighting, and homes are destroyed because of this.

What is the reason?

Our lives are often based on personal gain, personal targets, and selfishness.
However, if a person thinks: “Allah ta'ala has decreed this marriage for me. Whether my spouse loves me or not, Allah ta'ala has joined us together. I need to live with my spouse and serve him for the sake of Allah ta'ala,” then a woman’s entire life becomes an act of worship.
I have seen many homes like this. Those who implement this mindset find their homes becoming prosperous and turning into Paradise.

When their intention is to please Allah ta'ala, their daily life becomes a high form of worship.
There are many paths to earn Paradise, and every action of a believer can become a form of worship.

There are many deeds that are considered high forms of worship, yet we do not even recognise them as good deeds. They are sufficient to take us to Paradise.

The Awliyah of Allah ta'ala live in this world, yet their hearts and thoughts remain connected to Allah ta'ala. They are detached from worldly distractions and remain focused on pleasing Allah ta'ala.

It is not easy to overcome the trials of the Hereafter. We will have to pass through difficult stages, which is why we must prepare in this world for the Hereafter.

It is not the quality of a believer that even a single second of his life is spent without earning something good. He should always be engaged in righteous deeds.

The truly successful person is the one who has a successful death, and the one who has a successful death is the one who was engaged in a good deed at the time of death.

When a person performs an action for the sake of Allah ta'ala, it becomes a good deed for him.
When he trades for the sake of Allah ta'ala, he will notice a difference in his business. He will conduct his trade in a way that does not break the laws of Shariah, because he is doing it for the sake of Allah ta'ala alone.

When a person performs all his actions for the sake of Allah ta'ala, he becomes beloved to Allah ta'ala. If he does things for personal gain or personal love, then he has lost out.
Even when serving our parents, we should not do so merely to earn their love, but rather for the sake of Allah ta'ala and to earn His pleasure.
Allah ta'ala is always with us, and we should remain mindful of this reality.

We should revive this connection between ourselves and Allah ta'ala.
Only through this constant awareness will we be able to perform good deeds sincerely for His sake. This will grant us success and a blessed ending to life.

The person who engages in dhikr will have a good ending. Our hearts are spiritually dead, and only through dhikr can they be revived. Through dhikr, impurities are removed, and a person begins to feel that Allah ta'ala is with him. This is how all our actions become good deeds.
This is why dhikr carries such immense reward.

We should ask Allah ta'ala to unlock our hearts through dhikr so that we may feel the reality that He is close to us and understand the message of the Qur’an.

We must strive and make effort in this.
On the Day of Reckoning, Allah ta'ala will call out to those who remembered Him in prosperity and adversity, and who did not allow their trade to distract them from His remembrance, and He will grant them entry into Paradise without reckoning.

May Allah ta'ala grant us the ability to implement these precious pearls of wisdom.
Ameen.
