Why is Tazkiyyah Important? - Part 24

Shaytan uses two methods to distance a person from Allah ta'ala. Firstly, he influences him to commits sins and secondly, he makes him despondent.

Performing good deeds causes a person to draw nearer to Allah ta'ala and Shaytan experiences greatest pain when a person performs righteous deeds. Thus, he influences a person to sin through his tongue, ears and eyes and he tries his utmost best to spoil our actions.

Therefore, when Allah ta'ala grants us the opportunity to perform good deeds, we should remain cautious of committing wrongdoing. We should seek refuge from Allah ta'ala and ask him to protect our deeds and safeguard us from Shaytan.

Throughout life, we face challenges and no one is safe from this. We seek our needs and requirements from Allah ta'ala and we seek the solutions from Him regarding any problems we face. When faced with a challenge, we should strengthen our relationship with Allah ta'ala and remain occupied in worship.

Shaytan makes us lose hope. We should remember that, whatever is written in our destiny, will certainly occur and if life doesn’t work out the way we desire, then it is a test for us.

When a person does good deeds, he hopes that Allah will make his life easy and grant him the rewards of those actions. However, Shaytan takes advantage of this and tries to weaken him. For example, when a person faces a hardship, Shaytan may make him feel that there is no benefit in worship if he is still going to experience difficulties.

This is how Shaytan causes a believer to become disconnected from Allah ta'ala and fall into despair. He plants negative thoughts in the mind of the one facing hardships, leading the believer to question why he is experiencing difficulties despite being devoted to Allah ta'ala.

We should remember that the Noble Messengers and the Noble Companions faced tremendous challenges in their lives, and practicing the Deen was extremely difficult for them. However, these trials only strengthened the faith of those believers. In reality, the closer a person is to Allah ta'ala, the more he is tested.

We may not always receive what we ask from Allah ta'ala, however, He has already promised us what is best. Even pious people have faltered when Shaytan made them feel despondent, so we must never give up on the path to Allah ta'ala. When a good deed is performed, Allah ta'ala may multiply its rewards up to seven hundred times. No good deed is ever wasted, as long as it is done with sincerity, and this is a promise from Allah ta'ala.

When a person lose hopes, he becomes weaker. His Dhikr and his connection with his Sheikh also becomes weaker. We should not pay attention to the whispers of Shaytan, rather, we should place our trust in Allah ta'ala.

Whenever we are upset upon facing calamity, we should pray two raka'at Salaatul Haajah and present our needs to Allah ta'ala. We should have determination and turn to Allah ta'ala constantly seeking from Him. We should not feel anxious or afraid as we have Allah ta'ala with us.

If we commit a sin, we should not give up. If we are faced with a hardship, we should rely upon Allah ta'ala and not become despondent.

Just like birds leave their nests trusting that Allah ta'ala will provide for them and return home with full stomachs, we should take this as an example and not worry about where our sustenance will come from.

Before returning home we should pray to Allah ta'ala to allow us to return safely and to save us from hardships we may be confronted with. Despite this, if we are faced with problems, we should not succumb to the whispers of Shaytan. Instead, we should turn to Allah ta'ala and be grateful, because if we had not worshipped Him, we might have faced even greater and more severe hardships. We should have hope that He will provide the solutions we need.

We have no right to compare our lives with others, demand from Allah ta'ala what He has given them, or complain to Him. Allah ta'ala is free from any flaw, and none of His decisions for us are wrong. Whatever He has decreed is always just and correct. With this mind-set, a believer can remain at peace and content at all times.

Despite performing good deeds, a person may still be destined for Hellfire and this is the justice of Allah ta'ala. Whatever happens, we should recognise it as Allah ta'ala's justice and accept it wholeheartedly. We should strive to have such a relationship with Him.

We should not tire in begging and asking from Allah ta'ala. In all circumstances, we should be thankful to Him. Even when we face hardships, we should try to see the positive and count our blessings. For example, if our car is damaged, we can be grateful that at least no one was hurt. A person who maintains this mindset can live a more content and comfortable life.

May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement these precious pearls of wisdom. Ameen
