Allah ta'ala has made the human beings extremely reliant upon Him for his needs and requirements. Every moment we require something or another. This is because Allah ta'ala desires us to remain constantly connected and focused upon Him. These needs are such that, besides Allah ta'ala, no one else can fulfil them or provide them for us. We try our hardest to achieve our needs alone, however, we inevitably turn to Him eventually.
Allah ta'ala created human beings so that they submit and turn to Him. The first lesson to learn, is to constantly seek from Allah ta'ala through supplicating to Him
Hadhrat Sheikh Dr Abdul Hayy Ãrifi Rahmatullahi alayh states that even when a person takes a morsel of food, he should request Allah ta'ala to allow the morsel to pass through his digestive system in a perfect manner and allow his breathing not to be affected negatively. We are not in control over how our food will be digested and how it will affect the rest of our body. One morsel of food can either provide strength and energy, or it can be a means of one's body becoming spoilt. Thus, we are always reliant and dependant upon Allah ta'ala.
We should constantly turn to Allah ta'ala through supplicating to Him. Allah ta'ala loves the action of supplication. When a person supplicates, it becomes a means of worship for him and it grants him contentment. If what he seeks is good for him, then Allah ta'ala will fulfil his request.
Shaytan prevents one from supplicating to Allah ta'ala, although Dua is the essence of worship. If a person performs an act of worship without supplicating afterwards, then he has lost out on attaining the essence of worship. The purpose of all worship and prayer, is that we seek from Allah ta'ala afterwards.
The reality is, we are always in need of Allah ta'ala with every passing moment. We have been given a great warning in regards to being negligent towards supplicating. Those who do not supplicate, will be destined for Hellfire.
The pious predecessors mention, that it is compulsory upon a person to supplicate to Allah ta'ala.
Supplicating to Allah ta'ala is for our own benefit. We should not become disheartened. Allah ta'ala causes us to face failure and sorrows and He withholds from us, so that we turn to Him in need of Him. He desires us to remain connected to Him all the time. A person only succeeds when he turns to Allah ta'ala.
There is no benefit in lamenting and crying. The best solution is to perform two rak'at Salaatul Haajah and present our needs before Allah ta'ala. This is the first thing we should do and this was an action which the Noble Companions رضي الله عنهم were also habitual with.
Unfortunately, we fail to supplicate to Allah ta'ala and if we do supplicate, then we do it ostentatiously. The correct way to supplicate, is to supplicate individually and silently after prayer.
Dua is a form of worship. If Allah ta'ala grants one the ability to supplicate, then in reality, His doors of Mercy, forgiveness and Paradise are opened for him.
The ones who are habitual in praying, do not remain depressed regarding any matter. They are content and hopeful that Allah ta'ala will fulfil their needs. If their needs are not granted, then they understand that what they seek for, is not beneficial for them.
What is Istikharah?
We recite the Istikharah Dua only for marriage, however, we should recite this Dua for all our affairs.
The two Rak'at nafil which we perform after the two Rak'at of Ishraq, should be performed with the intention of Istikharah. Thereafter, we should request Allah ta'ala to grant us wellbeing and goodness throughout our day. This was the habit of our pious predecessors.
These actions are not merely acts of worship or a means of attaining reward. Rather, they are a means of cure for us. We are granted the solutions through our supplications.
It does not take long for a situation to go wrong or a matter of inconvenience to appear. Anything may occur. We should always keep ourselves connected to Allah ta'ala and constantly ask Him for ease. For example, when we are returning home, we should request Him for safety from hurdles and tragedies. Similarly, when we reach home, we should request Allah ta'ala for goodness and peace and safety in the house. We should always turn to Him as we are always in need of Him.
In reality, we lack performing Dua in this manner because we have full confidence in our abilities. We have not considered Allah ta'ala as our Lord, which is why we chase unlawful solutions to complete our needs, such as consuming interest. We lack confidence in Allah ta'ala's ability to grant our needs, so we consume interest, seeking to fulfil our worldly needs. We believe that if we lie, our strategies will work. Such individuals have a weak connection with Allah ta'ala.
We should build a relationship with Him whereby we are fully dependant upon Him.
If we truly considered Allah ta'ala as our Lord, then we would seek from Him, present our needs and we would avoid wrongdoing at all costs.
We should constantly Allah ta'ala for assistance throughout our day. In doing so, Allah ta'ala commands the angels to protect us because we have accepted Him as our Rabb. This is a great act of worship which may be performed anywhere! Those who become habitual in this, their tasks will always be fulfilled.
A person may supplicate at any time during the day or night, not just after prayer. We should raise our hands, lower our heads and speak to Allah ta'ala with humility. We should request Him for our needs repeatedly and we should beg and plead to Him. We should have complete conviction that everything is in His control. If what we seek is not good for us, then Allah ta'ala will not grant it to us. He will only grant us what is benefitting to us. Thus, we should be content with what we are granted and be pleased that Allah ta'ala has granted us that which He deemed to be better suited for us!
Allah ta'ala is not dependent upon the word كن. He does not need to recite this word in order for something to occur or come in to existence. He is the master Himself.
If we are faced with a calamity or a problem, we should have full reliance upon Allah ta'ala for protection and safety.
It is not compulsory to perform Dua after Dhikr. Also, the Imaams should not feel compelled to perform loud Dua's after prayer or Taraweeh for the sake of those praying behind them.
It has become a custom for Imams to perform lengthy Dua's. In reality, it is not a practice which is connected to Deen. As Imams, we should avoid performing lengthy Dua's after prayer whereby much time of the Mussallee are wasted. When an Imaam performs a very lengthy Dua, in many different languages, he risks performing this action with ostentatious intentions.
Having said that, performing Dua collectively is not prohibited. Allah ta'ala listens to the supplications of the pious people. Through their intermediary, Allah ta'ala listens to our Dua’s. Therefore, when we are sat amongst pious company and the pious individual raises his hands for Dua, we should also partake in this Dua and supplicate for ourselves.
May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement these precious pearls. Ameen
