It is a great reward from Allah ta'ala to detach someone from the world.
Shaytan attacks a person who is, vulnerable, free and disconnected from Allah ta'ala. Thus when we are secluded or lonely, we should be careful, as Shaytan takes this opportunity to deviate a person through his electronic devices or unlawful scenes for example. In this manner, he inclines a person towards sins.
On the other hand, being free from work in the world is considered a reward and a good opportunity, however, we should make the most of our free time to turn towards a righteous action. There are many who have no time to spend performing good deeds.
We should assess the free time we have during the day and night. This refers to the time in which we are free from work, business and trade and we have peace in our heart. During these moments Shaytan typically inclines us towards the television and incorrect usage of our phones. He injects negatives thoughts in our mind which leads us to sin.
Therefore, to remain free and do nothing at all is a huge loss for a human being and detrimental to his faith. If we cannot occupy ourselves with regards to performing an action which will benefit our Deen, then at least, we should occupy ourselves with a worldly permissible action. This is why the pious predecessors have advised one to earn with his hands through physical effort, such as job and business. We shouldn't remain free and bone idle as one who is occupied, has no time for wasteful activities.
A person travels on holidays and wastes time when he is free, doing absolutely nothing. In most cases, those who work, do not have the capacity to go on holidays. Allah ta'ala has granted us much time to perform good, thereafter we cannot complain to him regarding lack of time in the Hereafter.
When working in the world, it is uncommon for one to be attacked by Shaytan as one's mind is preoccupied with earning. Thus, Shaytan is not able to deviate him towards wrongdoing.
We should utilise our time productively. Sins are generally committed during our free time, thus, whenever we are occupied in sin, we should immediately shun that deed and turn towards a positive deed. If we adopt this habit, we may protected from many sins.
We should utilise our time productively and positively. The heart of the Dhikr is the greatest Dhikr and a person earns seventy times more reward through this Dhikr compared to other forms of Dhikr. This is because, one may be occupied in his worldly affairs and despite that, he remains connected to Allah ta'ala. This is why we should practice Muraqabah, so that when we are occupied with our worldly affairs, our heart remains occupied in Dhikr.
The one who becomes accustomed to this habit, remembers Allah ta'ala in an even better way during his free time. He does not waste time. He grabs these opportunities to perform extra Muraqabah.
If a person recites the Kalimah لا إله إلا الله a hundred times, then the gap between the heavens and the earth is filled with rewards for him and the doors to the throne of Allah ta'ala are opened.
Being free is a great opportunity of reward from Allah ta'ala. After Fajr prayer, we become free to do as we please. The pious predecessors have advised not to exit the Masjid immediately after prayers. One should remain in his seat after prayers and perform the Dhikr of Allah ta'ala for five minutes or for a short time. Shaytan is the one who ushers a person out of the Masjid.
If a person is occupied in trade whilst his heart is occupied in Dhikr, then his turnover is a means of reward and mercy from Allah ta'ala. Through such earning, he will never advance towards the unlawful and nor will his children. This is a great bounty of Allah ta'ala.

"Once the prayer is over, disperse throughout the land and seek the bounty of Allah. And remember Allah often so you may be successful." [62:10]
Hadhrat Sheikh Mawlana Ashraf Ali Thanwi Rahmatullahi alayh states regarding this verse, that when a person is free from Jumuah prayer, he is instructed to go and earn, however, a person becomes deserved of the grace of Allah ta'ala only if he performs Dhikr in the masjid before he leaves. This was the method of our pious predecessors and their actions were certainly in accordance to the Shariah and Sunnah.
It is better for a person to pray at a Masjid in which he is permitted to engage in Muraqabah following prayer.
It is the sign of Allah ta'ala's displeasure upon us that the Masaajid are empty and the Mussallee are unable to perform Muraqabah and Dhikr therein. Allah ta'ala has taken His grace away from us and made us occupied in the love of the world.
Allah ta'ala hasn't prevented us from earning, rather, our earning will be blessed once we perform Dhikr after prayer and then leave.
وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرًۭا
How does one remember Allah ta'ala often and go out to earn simultaneously? Performing Muraqabah even for five or ten minutes equates to Dhikr performed in abundance. This is because, the Dhikr of the heart refers to unlimited Dhikr and through it, one's heart remains in the state of Dhikr even after he leaves the Masjid. This is why Muraqabah is the Dhikr which is preferred in the Masjid over Dhikr performed upon the Tasbih.
Through Muraqabah performed in the morning, Allah ta'ala places blessings in one's day and it will enable a person to be engaged in good actions throughout the day. Either one will be occupied in remembering Allah ta'ala or he will be occupied in worldly work.
We ask Allah ta'ala for a comfortable life in this world because we spend our time in this world and it is a place where we earn. We ask Him to help us earn through lawful means. In reality, when we are occupied in good permissible actions, then we earning for the Hereafter too.
Similarly, if a person engages in Muraqabah and thereafter, becomes occupied in worldly work, then he will be earning for this world and the Hereafter.
The elderly have the best opportunity to utilise their time well. Unfortunately, they waste their time in futile actions, such as watching television and going on holidays. The elderly should utilise their time efficiently and seek forgiveness for the sins they committed in their youth.
Shaytan attacks the elderly because they are free from work. Spare time is a great blessing from Allah ta'ala, so if a person uses his time to turn to Allah ta'ala and regret his past sins, then he has used his time well. This is the age one should seek forgiveness, try to safeguard himself and advise his children against sins too.
Even if we are feeble, we should still have determination to perform good deeds. If we lose hope without trying, then we will easily give in to our desires and become lazy towards performing good. If Allah ta'ala has granted us an opportunity to perform good, then we should have determination and take the opportunity.
In this way, Shaytan will be defeated and he will give up attacking a person.
We should not be afraid of Shaytan. The more we combat Shaytan and beat him, the more his whisperings will diminish. If we lack courage, Shaytan becomes encouraged and he succeeds in overpowering us. In reality, Shaytan becomes fearful and retreats from a person who performs Dhikr.
To be safeguarded from our own desires, we must work hard. Our Nafs constantly seeks to destroy us. The Pro
pf عليه السلام was surrounded by evil and temptation, he called out to Allah ta'ala and Allah ta'ala pulled him towards Himself and told him not to lose hope. We should take heed from this and never consider that we will be safe from our desires, as our desires repeatedly lead us towards sins. We should never become confident regarding our desires that they will not overcome us.
The successful person is he who has fought his desires. He attains the ranks when he crushes his desires. Thus, we should fight against our desires and the pious predecessors have taught us the method on how to achieve this.
The Nafs never dies, even if a person is elderly. As a person becomes older, his desires also increase, which shows that we must save ourselves from our desires until we die. This is the way to become successful.
How to save ourselves from our desires?
The Dhikr of Allah ta'ala does not beat the desires, although, Shaytan is overpowered through Dhikr. This is because a person who performs Dhikr is still impacted by his evil desires.
A person faces more danger when he begins Dhikr, because through his Dhikr he considers himself pious. In reality, we swell with pride and our evil desires are expanded through our performance of worship and attainment of knowledge. For example, the scholar is stuck on the quagmire of his desires. The Sheikh also faces danger due to his rank and due to the many people who heavily trust in him.
There is only one method to be safe from our desires and that is to weigh our deeds against the scale of Shariah. A person does wrong through opposing the Shariah and obeying his desires.
A scholar commits wrong when he considers himself to be a jurist. He relies on his knowledge whilst issuing incorrect Fataawa. The Sheikh is destroyed by his desires when he relies on his visions and miracles. In both circumstances, Shaytan is the one influencing them.
Thus, we should never speak and act using our own mind and intellect. We should never clash with the Shariah. Rather, we must revert to the Shariah and Sunnah of Nabi ﷺ in all circumstances and in this way, we will be granted the correct solutions. A scholar will become righteous when he shackles his desires with the Shariah and improves himself. Thereafter, he will never oppose the Shariah.
We should keep ourselves within the boundaries of Shariah, otherwise, we will become deviated, regardless of the social or spiritual status we have attained.
When we advance towards good, our desires seek to trap us and pull us towards the wrong. Even the pious face these circumstances. Once we weigh our actions against the Shariah, the desires are destroyed.
Whoever resorts to Shariah and his heart is clean, then his heart will allow him to understand what is wrong.
Shaytan will present the wrong person in a positive way and he will dishonour the Kaamil Sheikh. We should be mindful of this.
When seeking a Sheikh, we should assess his level of Tazkiyah - whether he has spent time with a WaliAllah and whether he teaches his students to crush their desires. This is a sign of a true Sheikh and he is truly worthy and capable of granting Khilaafah to others.
We should avoid those gatherings in which actions which oppose the Sunnah and Shariah take place. We should also not rely upon our dreams or visions, as it can cause us to be led astray.
A person's piety is not determined by the vision of the Prophet ﷺ in his dream. This thought is from Shaytan.
When the pious witness the Prophet ﷺ in their dream, they should avoid becoming arrogant, otherwise, they will become at loss.
Sometimes sinners are granted visions as a form of encouragement to improve themselves and be led to good. In reality, Allah ta'ala wishes to assist such a person.
The one who relies on his dreams and miracles, should understand that he has become deviated through Shaytan and he must repent.
The deviated Sheikh will make the student believe that he is pious due to his dreams and he will overlook his weak practice of the Deen and the sins he commits. He will give a wrong interpretation. On the other hand, the true Sheikh will make the student understand his reality and rectify him in the correct manner.
May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement these precious pearls. Ameen

Why is Tazkiyyah Important? - Part 14
Ameen
