Regularly people complain that Allah ta'ala has granted them everything, yet they experience this weird emotion whereby they do not feel like doing anything. In some cases, this situation becomes severe and it is termed as 'depression.'
Depression is not a sickness, however, we have given it a name ourselves. It refers to frustration, fluctuating emotions and anxiety. Doubts and negative thoughts begin to creep in to one's mind and this anxiety increases. This emotion occurs in many people.
There is no name or remedy for this condition. What is it in reality? A human being does not recognise the journey he is treading upon. When a person doesn’t understand what his objective is, or his journey, then he is not able to travel towards it.
He tries to save himself and remove the anxiety by seeking solutions. Shaytan takes him to the wrong path and then that human being becomes deviated. He advances towards wrong solutions. He takes medicines, drugs, steroids and his heart does not feel inclined towards good. However, he has the desire to become a good Muslim and desires to practice. Allah ta'ala has granted us the cure for this sickness.
Allah سبحان الله
How beautiful and delicate points.
How beautiful the soul wanders when Hadrat sahib speaks about his history and life سبحان الله.
My beloved Sheikh sb Allah allow the fuyooz to spread far and wide ameen allahuma ameen.
"Those who believe and whose hearts find comfort in the remembrance of Allah. Surely in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find comfort." [13:28]
This refers to the heart being at peace and satisfaction. Allah ta'ala says that if our heart is not at peace, then we should make it at peace. This is the cure.
When a person is anxious, he becomes paranoid and assumes that someone is committing wrong against him. His body is disturbed and imbalanced. The peace and contentment of his heart is disturbed. This is the worst condition for a human being and the best thing, is to have peace in the heart.
If your heart is at peace, then all the sicknesses and problems of life will be eliminated. You will be able to bear the most severe trials with ease. The reason is that what controls you, is the peace and contentment in the heart.
If your heart is content, satisfied, and at peace, then in every phase of your life, you will remain calm and balanced. When you are in the right spiritual place, a place that feeds your soul — you will enjoy yourself.
Only through the remembrance of Allah ta'ala can one attain this. The Dhikr of Allah is not a burden or a favour to someone else. The human being is favouring himself by performing Dhikr. It grants one the solution and he is able to face all challenges.
Today, this problem has reached the youth as well. Youngsters advance towards drugs and intoxication. If they sleep, they sleep excessively. If they stay awake, then they stay awake excessively. It's an imbalance which starts from the youth and can continue at any stage of life.
However, when the youth adopt the remembrance of Allah ta'ala at a young age, many of their negative habits disappear. This is because when a person does not have peace and tranquillity in his heart, he commits wrong actions. He lives life, but there is no taste or enjoyment in it. Life is extremely enjoyable for a believer when lived in the right way. Worship even becomes enjoyable for a person through Dhikr.
Every individual experiences two phases - light and darkness and sometimes they cannot understand when they are stood in the dark.
People often look for wrong solutions. They go to magicians or consider their problem to be jinn possession. The real issue is that, when one abandons the remembrance of Allah ta'ala, he will not receive satisfaction.
That is why we must start from childhood. Good mothers teach their children while feeding them, mentioning the name of Allah ta'ala. This has a powerful effect as the name of Allah ta'ala impacts the child deeply.
Allah ta'ala says that He has revealed the Quran as a cure. In the Quran, there is healing and satisfaction of the heart. Allah ta'ala has made two qualities apparent in the Quran: Rahma (mercy) and Shifa (healing).
Why? Because human beings are most in need of these two things; mercy and cure. Without them, people fall into depression and darkness.
Allah ta'ala Himself has told us that from the Quran we will receive mercy and healing. We are in most need of faiz, spiritual blessings and faiz is the healing and mercy of Allah ta'ala.
We do not require long complicated rituals. All we require is Dhikr. Where do we learn Dhikr? From the teacher of dhikr. The teacher understands your sicknesses, your needs, and your inner condition. When a person turns toward the right solution, he becomes a wali of Allah ta'ala. Thus, this sickness becomes a sign that Allah ta'ala is pulling one closer to Himself.
Success is not attained through wealth. True success is peace in the heart. A house without tranquillity becomes poison. But when there is peace, your home feels like paradise. This is why we should seek for goodness of this world too, so that we can enjoy our life at home as well.
True faiz is unlimited because it is connected to Allah ta'ala. Allah ta'ala's mercy has no limit. Whatever you take from the ocean of Allah ta'ala's mercy, it does not decrease. Human
desires are endless and Allah ta'ala's bestowal is infinite.
How to increase faiz? The more the faiz increases, the more the peace and satisfaction in the heart. The Sheikh does not need the student, rather, the student needs the Sheikh.
To increase faiz, the connection with our Sheikh must be strong. If we wish to ascend higher in a building, we must be firm in taking the first step otherwise, we will slip up before taking the second step. Similarly, the more firmly we place our feet upon the first step, the higher we can rise in this journey. The first step to Allah ta'ala is the Sheikh. Through his company, the learnings will take us towards the faiz of Allah ta'ala.
The first foundation is belief and trust in the Sheikh. Those who come without belief in the teacher, will not acquire the peace in their heart.
One doesn't acquire peace by simply performing Dhikr, even if it is performed in abundance. If one doesn't have belief in the teacher, he will not gain peace through dhikr.
Shaytan attacks this connection first, by creating doubts. This is why a student should first have complete conviction in his Sheikh and if he happens to see wrong, he should consider it to be deception from Shaytan and a test against his belief. He should remain steadfast and ask Allah ta'ala to strengthen his belief in his Sheikh and remove the doubts and deficiencies within him. Thereafter, his relationship with his Sheikh will become stronger.
One who experiences doubts, should cry and plead to Allah ta'ala regarding these whispers from Shaytan and ask Allah ta'ala to show him the reality and allow him to understand.
Just like when a child makes a mistake, you do not abandon the child, rather, you make dua for his guidance. The same applies to the teacher-student relationship. By making dua, one's love for his Sheikh will increase.
A person who refuses to admit mistakes, will never be able to repent. The one who accepts his weaknesses and seeks Allah ta'ala's help, will receive guidance. The one who gives up and considers his sins insignificant, will never be able to repent throughout his life.
The Sheikh grants you a solution from the Deen which will satisfy your heart and he will extract the darkness from within you. This is why Allah ta'ala states that we should consult the اهل الذكر for the solutions to our problems.
The Sunnah of the Sheikh and mureed relationship, began from the time of Nabi ﷺ. Nabi ﷺ was the last Prophet and he reflected this connection of teacher and student through his companions. After he left this world, his deputies came.
The stronger one's connection in this Silsilah, the more faiz he will receive. When you enter the Naqshbandi order, then you will receive the faiz of all the blessed Mashãikh. Every person doesn't attain faiz. Faiz is granted to the person who has the desire and the yearning.
The second thing which the noble companions
had, was manners for their teacher. The person who has good manners, faces a good destiny. If he displays bad manners, he faces a bad destiny.
Through displaying good respect towards the teacher, Allah ta'ala strengthens the student's Imaan and gives him the vision through Tajaliyyaat and faiz.
After manners, the third quality we must instil within us, is love for the teacher. No one loves the child more than the mother. So, when you have love for somebody, then you will sacrifice your comfort for them.
After the mother, Allah ta'ala has placed this love between the Sheikh and the student because the teacher has those same qualities.
A mother and father cannot do their child's Tarbiyyah unless they have love for the teacher and the teacher has love for them.
If you don't have love, then you are in deception and cannot gain spiritual progression. You should have a pain, a desire and regard for your teacher.
You should always request your Sheikh to supplicate for you, but with respect. He presents your needs to Allah ta'ala at Tahajjud time and through his earnest supplications, your problems are eliminated.
To show manners towards the teacher is crucial. We should not say anything which the teacher dislikes and we should not disrespect him, otherwise, our relationship will end.
We must possess belief, love, respect and obedience for the teacher. After love, comes obedience. If you don't obey and follow your teacher, then consider that you don't have love. If you love the Sheikh, then you'll follow his words and obey him. If he says this is haram, you'll dislike it and avoid it without seeking proof. If he dislikes something, you will avoid it even if it is permissible.
We have to sacrifice our desires and we are crushing our desires when we follow the teacher.
After obedience, there is Khidmat- service. This refers to assisting the Sheikh with regards to your money and your life - Spending and gifting what is beloved to you. It is a great honour for the student to serve the Sheikh and this will take him to Paradise.
It is said regarding Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه that, "He is the door to knowledge and I am the city." Whoever wants to gain knowledge and awareness of Allah ta'ala, he may attain it through Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه.
A spiritual point here, is that if Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه's stamp of approval is not there, then you will not gain Wilaayat - friendship with Allah ta'ala. He is the head of the chain, however, Hadhrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه is greater.
How?
The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whatever is in my heart, I have poured it in to the heart of Hadhrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه, so there's a difference now. There is the door to enter the city and here is the heart where you can directly meet the heart of the Prophet ﷺ, through Hadhrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه.
Hadhrat Mujaddid Alf Thani Rahmatullahi alayh says, "So what's the difference then?" Friendship with Allah ta'ala and connection to Allah ta'ala comes through Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه, so what knowledge do we gain from the heart of Hadhrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه?
In the Naqshbandi order, we have Wilaayat-e Sugra and Wilaayat-e Kubra.Wilaayat-e Sugra ends with Hadhrat Aliرضي الله عنه. All the Wilaayat ends at this level. Beyond that, runs the Wilaayat-e-Nabuwwat.
Wilaayat-e Sugra takes us to the door of Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه and that is the lower level of Wilaayat. However, Wilaayat-
e-Nabuwwat, the friendship of Allah ta'ala, is different which is learnt from the Prophet ﷺ.
Therefore, one attains Wilaayat through Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه and he attains Wilaayat-e-Nabuwwat from Hadhrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه who had the faiz poured in to his heart.
Allah ta'ala will test us in our life through belief, love, respect and obedience for the teacher. If we are successful in these conditions, then our faiz will increase.
May Allah ta'ala allow us to implement these precious pearls of wisdom. Ameen.
