According to the pious predecessors, if one is steadfast upon the Morning and Evening Dhikr Gathering, then no other hard work is required from him.
This action of Dhikr has been prescribed by Allah ta'ala Himself and if one has correct intentions whilst attending this gathering, Allah ta'ala grants him everything.
If a person is lazy and negligent, then he cannot be steadfast. The pious predecessors state that steadfastness upon good deeds is superior to miracles. Allah ta'ala prefers the one who is steadfast and will grant him success.
We are simply required to crush our desires. We should aim to perform little deeds but often as opposed to performing deeds in abundance and then abandoning them afterwards.
Through steadfastness, the soul remains healthy and one's physical and spiritual diseases are removed. If one pushes himself to attend the Dhikr gathering despite being sick, Allah ta'ala will eliminate his sickness. Allah ta'ala is most appreciative of our sincere deeds. His doors of Mercy open for such an individual.
The Dhikr which the Sheikh prescribes a student should suffice him. One should remain consistent upon the prescription given to him without requesting for more.
The objective is to attain the nearness of Allah ta'ala. If one does not attain benefit or spiritual improvement from his Sheikh, or his teacher is far from him, it is not against the path of Tasawwuf to seek another teacher. However, the intention should be correct. He should seek another Sheikh for the sake of Allah ta'ala and not due to his own desires.
One should cease the daily lessons of Dhikr prescribed by the Sheikh and he should adopt the prescription granted by the new Sheikh.
Having said that, it is highly recommended to adopt a Sheikh who is local to you so that you may remain connected and able to take benefit from his blessed company.
Some resort to seeking a Sheikh from their homeland. However, this connection becomes short-lived due to incompatibility and difference in mindset and style of teaching.
If one takes benefit from his Sheikh who is local to him and there happens to be another Sheikh in the city who teaches Tazkiyyah, he will not be permitted to connect himself with the second Sheikh without a Shari'ee reason. This is in accordance with the etiquettes of Tasawwuf. One should not abandon the Sheikh he is connected to who is upon the correct Aqeedah and Sunnah. He should not attend the gathering of others and listen to the speeches of others, even if they are from the Naqshbandi order, as it is against etiquettes. If a person does so, he will be deviated by Shaytan and he will become confused.
The student should not divert his attention elsewhere and seek benefit elsewhere. The guidance of one's Sheikh should suffice the student. The Sheikh will serve the student great benefit and enable him to become a Muttaqi.
After adopting a Sheikh, one should assess whether he feels compatible with his teacher. When the student is comfortable and content, he begins to attain the spiritual blessings and benefit from the teacher.
Allah ta'ala has placed power within the teacher so that the student can take benefit from his company and absorb his love. The student's love pulls upon the spiritual blessings and good qualities of the Sheikh.
On the other hand, Shaytan distracts and deviates the student. He causes the student debate and compare between teachers in order to attack him. A person who is steadfast will be able to defeat Shaytan.
Amongst the rights of the body, is that one should rest. After performing Tahajjud and Dhikr, one should perform the two Sunnah raka'ts of Fajr prayer at home and then lie down for a short moment. Thereafter, one should recite Durood Ibrahim three times. There are blessings in this action and it will cause one to be refreshed and prepared for worship.
Tasawwuf also refers to respecting the Halaqah and upholding its principles. We should fill the spaces at the front and ensure that the row of lines are straight. There should be a gap between the students and the teacher so that there is no disrespect to the teacher. One should avoid sitting at the back and leaning against the wall.
We attend the Dhikr gathering to attain the mercy of Allah ta'ala and the spiritual blessings. It is due to His grace that we have been selected to attend. We should recite Istighfar before attending this gathering because of how great a gathering it is!
Thousands of angels and the souls of the AwliyahAllah descend upon this gathering. Those who sit here without respect towards the circle and the teacher are cursed.
A student attains nothing without love and respect for the teacher. If he possesses both qualities, only then, he will be granted spiritual blessings.
A person should not attend seeking the reward of Allah ta'ala. Rather, he should seek the connection of Allah ta'ala. After acquiring His nearness, we are not in need of chasing rewards.
When we attend the gathering, we must have love and respect for the gathering. We should have the intention to seek spiritual blessings from the gathering, as well as benefit for our Hereafter. If we fail to form these intentions, it is a waste of time and we will be deprived of success.
Before attending this blessed gathering, we must repent and purify our hearts. There should not be hatred towards anyone or towards the Sheikh. If we possess negative thoughts, we must leave the gathering, otherwise, we will be punished.
Before performing Muraqabah, one should purify his heart before seeking spiritual blessings from his Sheikh. The student earns spiritual blessings from his teacher according to the level of respect he has for his teacher. The more love and respect, the more spiritual blessings.
Not every inhabitant of Paradise will be granted Sakinah. Rather, Sakinah will be granted to those who are deserved of witnessing Allah ta'ala. This shows that not every inhabitant of Paradise will be deserved of His vision. Only the special inhabitants will be granted this blessing.
Those who attend the Dhikr gatherings with respect are given a splash of this special Sakinah!
