We learn from a Hadith in Mishkaat Shareef that it was the Sunnah of the noble Sahabah to assemble on the night of Jumuah and remember Allah ta'ala and listen to Nasihah.
The AwliyahAllah have continued this work until now. No action of any waliAllah is incorrect. All their actions are in accordance with the Sunnah and full of blessings. It is extremely disrespectful to question their actions and ask them to provide evidences. We should have unwavering belief and certainty in our Sheikh's actions, otherwise, we will not gain benefit.
In Ahadith, it is mentioned that Nabi ﷺ came out to a gathering of his Companions and he asked, “What has made you sit (here)?” They replied, “We are sitting to remember Allah, and to praise Him for guiding us to Islam and blessing us with it.” The Prophet ﷺ asked, “By Allah, is that the only reason?” They replied, “By Allah, we are only sitting for that.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “Indeed, I did not make you swear an oath because I doubted you. Rather, Hadhrat Jibrīl عليه السلام came to me and informed me that Allah the Almighty is boasting about you to the angels.” [Muslim Shareef]
The Ijtema is a Sunnah of the Companions and it is a reward from Allah ta'ala that we gather together in the same way. We assemble together to express our gratitude to Allah ta'ala for the Mashaikh of the Naqshbandi order and for the Deen which they granted us.
Allah ta'ala becomes pleased with this Ijtema and through this annual gathering, we will convey the rewards (Isaal-e-Thawaab) to the Mashaikh of the Naqshbandi order. The more people that gather, the more reward will be conveyed to the pious elders who taught us the Deen. Allah ta'ala has granted them immense power, even in their graves. Thus, when the gift of Isaal-e-Thawaab is sent, we also receive a gift from the pious elders in return.
The pious predecessors reformed the Ummah through their poverty, hunger and hardships. Yet, they had extreme concern for the Ummah and for our Hereafter. They carried the same concern as the Prophets and Messengers عليهم السلام.
Tazkiyah is the root of development for a Muslim and worship is based upon purification of the heart. In Mishkat Shareef it is mentioned that a person who is always angry cannot enter Paradise. This includes a person whose character is poor and he harbours pride in his heart. He never forgives or overlooks the mistakes of others and others remain fearful of him. He worships, yet, he does not have a calm personality.
Without the AwliyahAllah, this work of Tazkiyah would diminish. The AwliyahAllah embrace the sinners and they nurture the souls of the believers so that their worship may be accepted.
It is essential to connect ourselves with a Sheikh. We must fulfil the instruction of our teacher by completing our daily Tazkiyah sheets. This is for our own development and the objective of these sheets are to connect us to Allah ta'ala.
When the teacher places his finger upon the heart of the student, it guarantees that the student will depart this world upon the Kalimah - with Imaan. Even if a person does not practice, he will depart with faith.
This is because when the waliAllah places his finger upon the students heart, the blessings and light of Allah ta'ala's personal name transfers to the heart of the student and his Lataaif (spiritual lessons) spring into existence. The bulb of Imaan is lit. If the student follows the guidance and practices the Sunnah, then the brightness of the light intensifies and his Imaan shines brighter. If he fails to practice, the light remains dim, yet, the light is present and flickering. For this reason, he will also recite the Kalimah and depart this world with faith.
We should have determination and strive in sacrificing ourselves for the sake of Deen. The more we assign ourselves to Allah ta'ala, the more we are elevated by Him.
We should not feel proud over our accomplishments. Rather, our efforts are due to the mercy of Allah ta'ala. It is due to His grace that we gather for His sake. We should always lower ourselves and be afraid that Allah ta'ala can remove this blessing of dhikr at any time.
All the Mashaikh bring people towards Allah ta'ala and they improve the character of the believers. The pious predecessors had great concern for us. They carried pain for our children and were deeply concerned regarding the state of society.
With regards to the sisters, my Sheikh advised to teach them and grant them Tarbiyyah behind the barriers in segregation. Nowadays, technology has advanced, thus, womenfolk can learn dhikr via the telephone. The menfolk should encourage their wives to learn dhikr from the Sheikh. This is from amongst the Sunnah.
If the woman is not reformed, then her children will not be reformed. If she fails to adopt modesty and good conduct, then her children will follow suit. This is why we should not leave the path of Tasawwuf.
We have been blessed with this path and through this order, we have been safeguarded from all sorts of evil and sin and we have adopted good character. Thus, we should be grateful to Allah ta'ala through dhikr by gathering for this Ijtema.
If we attend with gratitude and we have sincere intentions, our status will be elevated. In return, Allah ta'ala will be pleased with us in the heavens and His mercy will descend upon us.
We will earn great reward for serving the guests of Allah ta'ala. We should present ourselves with good manners and be humble. The guests should also arrive with good manners and respect and not become a burden upon the hosts.
We should strengthen our connection with our Sheikh and keep the light alive and bright.
May Allah ta'ala allow us to act upon these priceless words. Ameen
